Sand Sea Resort comes highly recommended for its array of facilities, including multiple pools and convenient beach access, though it's not without minor criticisms such as Wi-Fi inconsistencies and worn bathroom fixtures. The staff's excellent service is frequently lauded, contributing to the resort's serene atmosphere, accentuated by lush gardens and traditional comforts. Nestled on Railay beach, the location offers stunning views and easy access to local attractions. While room experiences vary, with some reports of maintenance issues, cleanliness is generally commended. Opinions on value for money are divided among guests.

Stayed 4 nights in a tropical villa. Spacious, clean, comfortable bed and good working ac. Water in the shower would be warmish at best, never got hot.

Great staff, friendly and helpfull, especially every one from reception.

Included Breakfast buffet with lots of choices, fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, salad, bread/pastries, egg station, western and thai hot dishes, great way to start the day!

Ate dinner once at the hotel. Good fried rice.

Pool area nice with shade or sun, pool water would get less clean throughout de day though. You hear a lot the longtail boats coming and going but guess this is the same everywhere in railay.

Good location on east side of railay, really close to floating pier for transport by longtail to ao nam mao pier when arriving/leaving.

Short walk to walking street with good restaurants and west side of railay as well as to cave and phrang nga beach.

Not being on west side was not an issue at all.

Booked 2 tours through the hotel on speedboats ( 4 islands and Hong islands). I prefered the Hong tour: less crowded everywhere overall and on Hong beach, there is a floating pier so boats do not land on the beach, which is great, much more relaxing!

As for transport from airport, took the shuttle van to ao nam mao pier (150 bht) then longboat is every hour to railay east pier (100 bht).

For the return, booked at travel agent on the promenade for 400 bht, including boat at 9 am and shared taxi to the airport (arrived at 9h50) for an 11:30 flight because the 150 bht shuttle van started only later (10h20 am), too late for my flight.

All in, had a great stay and would recommend Sunrise Resort!

Sunrise Tropical is perfectly positioned on the East beach, if you are staying here I highly recommend you come from Ao Nammao Pier and NOT Ao Nang - this will mean no drop-offs in water as both ends have piers and Sunrise is positioned next to the East beach floating pier, so no dragging your case around searching for your accommodation.

The welcome was super friendly and being a previous guest we were upgraded to a villa with the outside shower which was appreciated.

The resort is small in number of rooms with the villas spaced separately around the well kept tropical gardens. It was great to sit outside in privacy and watch monkeys and even a giant monitor lizard.

The villa we had was spacious, the outside shower was great even if the water pressure was terribly lacking, but it was super refreshing on some very hot days.
The whole place has a slightly rustic vibe which really reflects Railay.

Breakfast is ok. We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant at night this time but there seemed to be some good specials and a lot of outside guests using it at night.

The staff are great and the location is perfect to access everything in Railay.

Our only regret was not staying longer, but I have no doubt we will be back for an extended stay.

Tips:
If you want the best cocktails in Railay go see Bang Bang - at Bangs Bangs bar

Travelled with family of 2 adults 2 kids (2 & 5).
Stayed at a Tropical Chalay Triple room which had a decent overview of the east bay if you wish to catch the sunrise.
Complimentary water provided daily and cleaning arranged upon request. Staff very friendly and takes their time with you. We also arranged transfer service to our next destination in Koh Lanta after comparing the varieties from both the hotel as well as other agencies. Although the price was slightly more expensive compared to the other services we chose to go with the service provided by the hotel. Simply because of the overall service which included that we didn’t lift our bags even once from A to B. Great value if you carry the luggage for the whole family.
Pool area was appreciated by the kids and breakfast was superb which had something to offer for any preference. Do not miss out on the coconut-cakes which is a specialty. Keep in mind it’s served every 2nd or 3rd day as the other day they serve pancakes. They do have other great Villas which we wished that we should’ve booked but trust me, in our opinion, any room is good enough.
Hope you enjoy your stay as we did!!

We stayed here for 2 weeks and had a lovely time. Our room was on the first floor and was one of the more modern rooms. It was large with a balcony and surrounded by trees where the monkeys played. The bathroom was clean and fully tiled although the plumbing needs to improve. The air conditioning worked well. The grounds are delightful and well maintained with many attractive trees and shrubs. The 2 pools were clean and inviting, with the main pool having a wonderful location right by the beach. The limestone cliffs surrounding the bay are absolutely beautiful. The beach has fine white sand and the hotel is on the edge of one of the swimming areas.

The staff were friendly and helpful and always greeted us with a smile. They arranged private transfers to and from Krabi airport which I recommend as it’s complicated if you have never visited before. We arrived very early and were able to get to our room immediately.

The breakfast was fine, with freshly cooked omelette being the best option. We ate lunch and dinner in Walking Street where there are many good, local restaurants. The hotel food is good but more expensive.

To those who gave this hotel a poor review, you must have stayed in a different room or you are not comparing like with like. This is a beach resort with hard working locals who arrive for work at 5.30am. It’s not a city hotel with 5 star facilities.

Sand Sea resort is located in the PERFECT area, the location of this hotel could not be better but, rooms are extremely outdated and need some renovating to keep up with other more spectacular resorts in Railay. Beds are very hard but not unbearable, cleaning service does not always properly clean the rooms and all rooms that are labeled “deluxe bungalow” or “superior bungalow” have the main window looking out at the common area pathway so if you need to change you will need to keep the curtains closed at all times. We stayed in 402 which from the bathroom had a lot of passing noise so we had to keep the bathroom door closed at night to sleep.
Room had really great air con and was located close to both pool areas and beach access area.
Big disclaimer which we were not made aware of until arrival is this hotel DOES NOT serve any alcohol at all, if you want a cocktail or local beer while sitting at the pool you will have to go buy from the local shop.
Another recommendation is to contact the hotel ahead of time to arrange transfer as the hotel is only accessible by boat and often the local long tails and taxis work out to be a lot more expensive.
To conclude this is a beautiful place and the hotel staff are on a new level when it comes to being polite, attentive and helpful!
Enjoy your stay in Railay it’s one of the most spectacular places! 🌸

We enjoyed a lovely 3 night stay at Sand Sea resort. Our family of 5 adults had 2 adjoining Grand Deluxe rooms which were large, clean and very comfortable. The rooms have a balcony, where you can relax on a day bed whist overlooking the lush tropical gardens. There are 2 swimming pools and plenty of monkeys scampering about in the trees. The breakfast is buffet style with many, many options and the restaurant is located with a beautiful outlook on the beach. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The location is great- on the beach and a short walk to restaurants, bars and shops. The resort staff organised a transfer back to Phuket airport for us which was seamless. Sitting on the beach in front of the resort to watch the sunset each night was magical.

Liked · The beach is beautiful – amazing sunset. Close to rock climbing and visiting the caves. The breakfast provided was good with a nice variety.

We booked a deluxe bungalow through booking.com. We booked their booking basic rate (meaning you cannot cancel or change) at a lower price. Was a little concerned that we would not get as nice a place, but our bungalow was nice. The place is a little dated (as with all of the accommodations on Railay Beach). We just hope that they try their best to keep it clean and update wherever as possible as it is one of the nicer accommodations. There are two pools which come in handy to lounge around/in. We ate dinner at the restaurant while watching the sun set. Very beautiful. They had a band playing – they were great!

The staff were very accommodating and kind. We had a couple of kittens hanging at our bungalow together with a number of monkey’s jumping from the trees.
Overall a good place (again the accommodations on Railay Beach are all a little dated – Sand Sea Resort, we felt, was the nicest looking place).
We also stayed on Ao Nang for a couple nights at Krabi Resort. That was a beautiful resort and worth the stay. If you are in the area we would suggest 2 nights in Ao Nang and 2 nights in Railay.

Disliked · The noise of the long boats. Gets a little crowed as the day progresses.

We decided to stay the night on Railay beach and chose a bungalow at this resort. What a great choice, check in was friendly and efficient and we had a lovely little bungalow surrounded by tropical fauna near to the front pool, monkeys in the trees and on the roof...perfect. The room was spotless with a comfy bed, great aircon and a lovely little terrace with table and chairs to relax. The hotel is located on the fabulous beach and next to the walking street, full of bars and restaurants. Breakfast was included which was OK and had fabulous views from our table overlooking the beach. The hotel has two lovely pools and plenty of sun loungers. They provide beach/pool towels and the room had everything we needed, kettle, hairdryer, toiletries and complimentary bottled water. We will be back and recommend to our family and friends. Thanks for a lovely stay.

This resort is one of 5 on West side of Railay, and that is the side you want to stay. The offer a shuttle from the airport to the resort which is great, have swimming pools and the location is superb indeed. The market is 100m down the beach and offers plenty of places to eat lunches, dinners etc and the food on Railay East is also great. We only ate breakfast here, as there are better places to eat in Railay but the resort itself is great. The Christmas even dinner at 3500Bht is expensive for what you getting, but they do try their best with the full event. overall a good resort in Railay west.

We stayed here twenty years ago on our honeymoon, and came back for our 20th anniversary this year. We stayed in one of the older Bungalows which is likely the reason for my 4 star review as opposed to a 5 star one. My guess is the newer Hotel style rooms do not suffer from the same mildew odor and nonexistent shower water pressure that our older Bungalow did. However, the location can't be beat. It is on the more Scenic West Beach where there are fewer hotels although a good deal of beachgoers during the day. If you wake up early, the trees near the restaurant are often filled with lemurs, monkeys, or toucans. It doesn't get better than that!
