It has been 2 years since I have had a meal at the Girrosol, the restaurant attached to the hotel and down stairs, last time it was just adequate. This time was way better, cleaner, brighter, more attentive better trained staff and most importantly way better food. A bit pricey for soup, a steak and a ginger ale but well... More

This is a very comfortable Hotel in a central location opposite the cathedral. The main peculiarity is that it occupies the fourth floor of a commercial building with the restaurant and breakfast room on the first floor. The rooms are modern, simple, clean and well maintained. There is formidable air conditioning that can make them quite chilly. The shower in... More

Located in the middle of industrial Nampula, the Girassol is convenient for short business stays, less so for tourists. Access is rather difficult - through traders and shops, and up with a lift (parking hidden in back) - and reception not overjoyed at customers' arrival. We had to wait for more than an hour to be allocated our rooms, despite... More

Just stayed overnight for an early bus to Ilha de Mozambique. It was a nice, simple but clean hotel with a modern design and nicer than expected. You need to take the elevator to the 4th floor to check in. Breakfast was fine but a bit limited. It's a 3 block walk to the "old" bus station. This has been... More

Booking anything in Mozambique is not easy. Particularly so in Nampula. My travel agent in Namibia had to work through a travel agent in South Africa to organize it. This place is over priced, it is not much better then a motel 6. It is adequate but what is really making me seriously cranky is there is inconsistent water. It's... More

This review will focus on the restaurant only. The restaurant is on the first floor of the building the hotel is located in, the hotel itself is on the fourth floor. The restaurant is managed separately from the hotel, and has improved vastly from the days it was managed by the hotel. There is a downside that comes with this,... More

First of all: the hotel only accepts VISA card. So if you don't have that card, avoid this hotel ! The Girasol hotel is not the most exciting hotel I have ever been. It is in a building that looks like it has been designed by a former Soviet architect. The hotel itself is on the fourth floor. It has... More

I arrived in Nampula without arrangements for accommodation. I arrived at the Girassol, only to find them fully booked (probably a good sign!). They recommended another nearby hotel and called a taxi for me. Great customer service!

The hotel Girassol in Nampula is comfortably situated in the 3rd floor of a high building in front of the Cathedral of Nampula. The hotel is international in quality and prices (read: expensive): anyways the rooms are very nice, comfortable and clean and the hotel has a nice restaurant on the last floor, from which you can have a very... I've been travelling to Nampula for business but recently was pleasantly surprised to discover a direct flight from Johannesburg. Would have described it as a 1 horse town - but it has become a hub in Mozambique. The hotel has a reliable internet connection and a good restaurant with a varied menu (even Halaal for Muslims!) which means if you... More

“The rooms facing away from the main road are quiet - its a very noisy main road! Unless you want a view of a gorgeous old church, amazing in sunset light!”
