Nice place for a daytrip. The accommodation(we stayed in a suite on top of the lake) was really good. Clean room with toiletry supplies. Own terrace with lake view. Amenities in the area limited and maybe not that, what westeners would like to have (yes, i missed the option to have a beer). Only one proper restaurant was open at the time, but there was a hawker centre. Other than the reception, card payment did not work. The attached waterpark and petting zoo was a hit for our 9y old. All in all a great experience, but be careful when choosing, if it is that, what you want.

The room is in dire state, in need of refurbishment. It’s cheap but you get what you pay for.
The same with the waterpark. Could do with some refurbishment and cleaning in certain areas.
The only consolation, ate dinner and breakfast and really tasty food and cheap too.

Came here primarily to visit the Orang Utans Island. We stayed at a water chalet in Kampung Air - Room 802. The room was newly refurbished, clean and comfortable. Great outlook to sunrise and peaceful lake.
Great hospitality by all staff. Thank you Danesh and Dalira for smooth check in, check out and in between. The housekeeping service was excellent. The room service was accommodating. Comfortable night sleep with fluffy bedding and pillows.
As for the Orang Utans Island. We were chauffeured by Iskandar during the trip, and being given the tour of the island by Dr Fahmi, who was passionate and knowledgeable of anything Orang Utans. The trip was exceptional and the highlight of our Bukit Merah experience.
Thank you for the beautiful time ☺️

Room was old and not well kept however it was spacious. The cleanliness is however disappointing. Sheets has stains to it and dust were everywhere. Especially the toilet - stinked heavily. Breakfast was also mediocre.

Dirty Room, run down. Bad services. The stupid management let the function continue over 12am. The disgusting karaoke voices make you mad. No action taken after few complaints.

Kampung Air chalet is cheaper if you book via internet. More spacious and suitable for fishing activities. You can do your fishing activities tru your balcony. .and the view is superb. ..spa is available..massage and body scrub is good...Kampung Air is the best...will be back here again :)

First of all, the resort has thee types of accommodation. Suria Serviced Apartment (affordable), Laketown Hotel (moderate) and Kampung Air (expensive). My review is on Laketown Hotel. We booked two deluxe rooms via Agoda which was much less expensive than walk-in or phone booking.I made a note for connecting rooms but upon arrival we were given side to side rooms. After request, they managed to accommodate and gave us connecting rooms though. We had rooms 205 & 206 which were just above the reception.
The rooms were very spacious and although it was stated that maximum occupancy for each is 2, the rooms can accommodate up to 4 persons per room. Breakfast provided for 2 pax per room though. One of the room (205) had 1 queen bed and a sofa bed while room (206) had a queen bed and single bed with a pull out bed underneath it. Which is very good for big families. The bathroom had a bath tub (superior has none if you must know) and a sink area outside the toilet. Water pressure very strong. I do think the rooms need refurbishment though as the old wardrobe almost toppled over me when I wanted to hang my clothes!
Television had a few satisfactory cable channels. WiFi signal was very strong in our rooms and there was even a DVD player if you want to bring your DVDs.
Breakfast was good for RM25 pp with usual hotel menu both continental and asian dishes. Staffs were generally friendly and would happily accommodate you. If you are in-house guests, you'll get to purchase the combo ticket for the attractions (waterpark, ecopark, chair lift ride and skycycle) 10% less (around RM42++) with 2 days entry per ticket which is another value added service.
The attractions? Let me summarise:
Waterpark- not that big but OK enough. Try the boomerang! Looks quite old though.
Ecopark- could've been better kept. Not many animals but the animal show is quite amusing. Don't get your hopes high. Animal here refers to a bunch of parrots.
Chairlift- something different. Takes you across waterpark to ecopark.
Skycycle- the route could've been longer. but maybe they don't want visitors to give up pedaling halfway.
Orang Utan Island- didn't get to go but looked interesting.
Overall, we enjoyed our time in Bukit Merah Laketown Resort.

Definitely will not stay in the resort nor suggest to others in future. The room is under service, the toilet cannot be flushed and the shower is dribbling . The room also has bad odor. For the price that we have to pay , definitely not worth the service given .

We (a group of 15), booked 4 apartments for 4 nights at the Suria Serviced Apartments back in July 2012 and upon arrival in Jan 2013, we were told they were under refurbishment - no one had bothered to contact us!
We were then booked into the hotel which is more like a motel with no room service, laundry, mini bar, water, wifi...
The rooms were very large but were musky smelling and really need a makeover. Our toilet didn't work properly, the shower curtain rod was broken and the TV looked like we were watching night vision! My friends' room had dodgy electrical wiring, so they had to recharge everything in our room.
The attractions to this place are the EcoPark - BRILLIANT, Orangutan Island - GREAT and the water park (NO IDEA) as this was also closed for refurbishment and again we were not told about it!!!!
We had 7 children and 8 adults who had been looking forward to 2 days at a waterpark, so there were 15 VERY disappointed people when we were only told of it's closure when we got there. Luckily there was a hotel pool we could all swim in.
This place when fully functional and refurbished will certainly be a good place to visit, but I recommend to stay a maximum of 2-3 days and make sure everything is opened otherwise you may get very bored as there is no shopping facilities. BYO EVERYTHING as there isn't even a convenience store close by.
This place needs to cater for (overseas) tourists, especially those who do not / cannot drive in this country. Taiping is about 30mins and Penang about 45-60mins away, but the only way to get there is by an organised taxi/bus. There are NO shuttle services to these places.
We had organised a taxi to take the 15 of us to Taiping for RM200, and this was to the Night Safari, dinner, a convenience store (including purchasing alcohol - needed by this stage!) and an ATM (as the one at the resort is for local cards only and would not accept my visa debit card).
There was only one place to eat dinner, which whilst the service was a little slow and they did get our orders wrong at times, the food was really good. There was another 'burger' style place open during the day but closed at 6pm.
While we made the most of our surroundings which also included some arcade games and a fish spa, we were glad to leave as this was not what we had booked and planned for.
If the hotel had contacted us about the closures, we would have been able to make some changes to out itinery, but they didn't and THAT IS THE MOST DISAPPOINTING THING!
In it's 'hey day' this place would have been great... It has the potential to get there again, but they need a good developer and marketing manager!
I may return in a few years (more out of curiosity that anything else) as I really can see the potential and I hope I do, but they really have to lift their game!

Hi there, Kamunting will be a better option as it is nearer to Bukit Merah Lake town resort.
In terms of taxi fee, i do not have the information. I believe e-hailing ride share services like Grab will be available or you may just hail a taxi at the KTM station.
It is roughly 17 km away. Thank you.
