Location wise, it’s excellent. Smacked right in the middle of town. Walking distance to restaurants, cafes, clock tower, tunnel, and most attractions. Rooms are not well kept. I’ve got a bed sheet that was torn. Toilet taps that are loose. Noise levels near the discotheque next door is deafening especially if you’ve got a room that is near the corners next to it. Hot water is sporadic. WIFI is non existence once you get inside the room. Spotty at best if you stand at the room corridors. Air conditioning is central but there is no temperature control. So you are left feeling cold throughout the night. Now there are those of you who see this as a plus point. Nearby the hotel, there armed abundance of food choices within walking distance.

Hotel room is huge but has mouldy smell. Found 2 dead cockroaches in the toilet. Made a call to the receptionist to clear the dead cockroaches and went off for dinner. They did spray freshener in the toilet but never cleared away the dead cockroaches. Have to call them again to removed it. We went off early for our day tour the next day. After came back, the bed is made up half way, with the sheet on the table (forgot or expect us to put ourselves). And during night time, when I shower, I realise the towel looks dirty and with holes. The worst part is the towel (looks more like rag to me) is smelly, as if someone had used it before and never wash (suspect they purposely give us used towels / cleaning rags because of last night incident). Too bad I forgot to take the photo to attach here. I was so angry and called them to replace the towel immediately after my shower. Towel replaced was very clean and smell nice this time. And during the night, 1 cockroach fly onto our bed and disappeared under our bed while we try to catch it! Highly recommend not to stay in this unhygienic hotel. Where as for breakfast buffet, only few varieties and not enough for the guest!

Excellent bed, hot water, & view but detritus in drain, no sink plug, dust on TV table, no bath tub though stated there is, no hot water jug. Charge like a bull (1500 baht) for what is now a budget hotel. Price is stand alone reason for 'poor' review.

This is a old hotel. Probably the modern hotel very long ago but time has taken its toll on this building.. The rooms are spacious.. Can't take the smell of the carpets.. Situated in the town and many shops nearby walking distances.. Also have nightclubs and kar aoke downstairs..prices are high but guess there are other budget hotels nearby which are new, Clean, and much cheaper..

One of the oldest hotel in town so the rooms and especially the carpets is abit smelly.. Good for those who prefers to walk.. Surrounded by all the pubs.. Bike rent is available, just ask at the counter.. Book the behind rooms as it will be facing the mountains..

A friend booked this hotel since it was holiday season (Hari Raya - a Muslim festival). and most other hotels in Betong were full. It was a big mistake. We were charged baht 1500 (abt MYR150) the first night including breakfast. It was horrendously expensive and the room was certainly not worth the money we paid. The reception staff do not speak english, were rude and obviously do not know the meaning of customer service. The hotel is old and badly maintained. Lobby is unimpressive. Everything in the room is old and the toilet was ancient with a disgusting bathtub. We could not locate the tap to the toilet and later realised it was located under the sink counter and can only be turned on by reaching your hand under the sink ! My first such experience !! The room itself is so-so, old carpet, torn mattress cover and box TV. As we were there for 2 nights only, we decided not to change hotel. The price reduced to MYR 115 the next day as most of the tourists had checked out. But when we went for breakfast, we had a shock, no breakfast. Seems they reduced the rate and took away breakfast. Most annoying was that the reception did not bother to tell us. We would have definitely changed hotel had we known. Only plus points - good air cond and shower. All else not worth the money we paid. Will not ever recommend this hotel. There are a few other smaller hotels in the vicinity that are much cheaper and cleaner.

My mother and I stayed here as we believe that it is very near to the nearby attractions. The positives of this hotel though are that it has quite decent WiFi connection (or it might be because of the lack of guests), decent enough toilet conditions, pretty friendly staff and amazing views from our room! On to the negatives; 1. The room was dusty and unkempt! I am not sure whether it is reflecting the Western style of wearing shoes indoors, but the floor was really dirty and you can see scraps of paper everywhere. The room had a really weird smell as well. 2. The bedding was the worst part of the room. My bed had a few ants crawling around, but I still slept okay despite the loud noises coming from the pubs down below. However, my mother was less fortunate. She woke up in the middle of the night with bites all over her lower body! She opened up her bed sheets to see that there was a bee corpse there which attracted an ant colony! This was absurd but we did not complain to the management as we were already on our way out of the hotel. Reevaluation is needed on the methods of which the staff checks out a room. All in all, the hotel was just a place to stay overnight in this quiet border town before we move on, but this experience was a major downer for our trip. We will not recommend this hotel to anyone!

The hotel located at middle of the Betong city town with a mountain view. From the hotel you can walk around for clubbing at night, find Chineses food at restuarant or you can take a body massage (Thai ancient massage) at the 2nd floor at hotel. The cost per night is 750baht for low season with a bathub in a room.

Betong Merlin Hotel is just an average hotel, with average facilities.. The frontline staffs are quite helpful, but its a pity they dont really speak or understand english,to get information and direction on places of interest is next to impossible, there are no brochure available, guess the Thai Tourism is not interested in promoting the border town..
