No wifi and thin mattress/pillow. No real management either. It's clean and maintained, good location. If you want to escape from the modern world then this is the place to go, stay a few days and walk the town while enjoying its rusticness.

This sleepy town makes you feel like you have stepped back in time with its dusty roads lined with willows trees and artsy vintage buildings. The town however is buzzing with activities. You can go to the owl house museum, visit the local brewery, and hike to see some bush paintings. Or if you just want to relax you can...

This time I stayed in the Water Tower (previously in the backpackers) and really loved it. Very special accommodations with interesting history providing everything one needs (fridge, hotplate, cutlery, crockery, etc). Gorgeous sun/star-gazing deck. Bring mozzie stuff (maybe even a net to put up) and be prepared for the noise from the community offices across the road and the art...

Nieu Bethesda is such a quiet village off-season that I had the place mostly to myself, with a few guests quietly coming and going. The traditional old Karoo house has a personality of its own, and entries in the visitors book suggest it is haunted. I had no sign of ghosts, but there were two curious cats who showed up...

Nieu-Bethesda is an amazing little gem of a town in the middle of the Karoo Desert. Its hard to believe you can find such a lush green oasis where it is located. This backpackers is an old house that has been converted into a backpackers with amazingly comfortable beds and pillows - I felt like I was sleeping on a...

After a few years trying to go to Owl-house backpackers it finally happened,we first stayed 3 nights at the Water Tower a beautiful room/flat which looks like a water tower with a deck where we could have dinner and watch the stars and then moved accross the road to Outsiders. After staying about 2 weeks at Nieu-Bethesda,a few nights we...

We had a whistestop visit to nieu Bethesda but really enjoyed staying in the water tower and the good food at the karoo lamb. The brewery is definitely worth a visit - great beer, excellent coffee and cheese. Highly recommended stopover if you're in the Karoo

We stayed at the Two Owls - part of Owl house backpackers. Truly value for money. The service was superb. The arrangement to get the key after hours, very thoughful. Both thumbs up. Our heartfelt gratitude. You deserve 5 stars.

Checking in at Lamb Karoo restaurant was easy. I called in knowing I'd show up late and they hung around for me. I ate there the next day, too, and bought some keepsakes. It was great. I was camping out (my own tent) but they still gave me keys to the entire house. There are indoor and outdoor toilets and...

This place fits perfectly in its setting! Cosy, well run and looked after, with all the things you need, to explore this beautiful village and area! I have stayed here three times in the last 14 years, and each time I see it growing slightly! The rooms are great! They have a great cottage behind the back packers, full equipped,...
