Had a lovely stay at the Byrness Hotel - lovely room, bath and a home cooked meal by Catherine. There is a small bar and garden where there was a band playing in the afternoon and a marquee, which gave a great atmosphere. Catherine was so helpful and gave us details of a fabulous B&B (Cocklawfoot Farm) half way between... More

We stayed here in the cottage with another family. Four adults and nine children all fit very comfortably. It's a lovely, clean space with many bathrooms and a spacious kitchen that is neat and well outfitted. Each bedroom is nicely decorated and has high ceilings. The location is near to nature and Hadrian's Wall area as well as about an... More

I was complety flabbergasted by the service I got from Kate @ her hotel! Without her advice and that of Ken in Lyndale I could not have finished my trip on the Pennine Way. Kate gave me a room although she was busy doing other personal business. And helpt me with transport of my car and goods. Thereafter she made... More

Thank you for a lovely review and what a shame you couldn't stop with us longer. Christina will be thrilled to hear you mentioned her. As a new business, Cocklawfoot B&B needs exposure as they are not in any of the guides as yet. I have heard nothing but good reports about them and a farm in the foothills of... More

Booked into here after my second last stage of the Pennine Way and was thankful that it was still open at this time of year (I may be the last walker of the year). Really great service by Kate who was very welcoming throughout. A really comfortable double bed in a nice room with a decent bath to soak in... More

5 of us stayed here for 2 nights on the last part of the Pennine Way. Katie the owner gave us a warm welcome and we were soon sat with a beer enjoying the sunshine in the garden. What a great place to spend some time. The house has a great deal of charm and character. The log fire in... More

Stayed here before doing the last leg to Kirk Yetholm. Kate the owner makes you feel so welcome and at home. A very entertaining host. That night all the guests dined together in a very cosy dning room with open log fire, it was such a wonderful experience and good fun. Food was superb and a good choice of beers... More

After an impromptu decision to explore a section of the Penine Way I showed up, unexpectedly of course, at this Hotel. I was cold, wet and couldnt face 'wild camping' and had a huge relief when I was welcomed by Kate (& cute dog Pippin) as the Hotels only guest that evening. I was offered a hot meal and didn't... My wife and I stayed at the Byrness Hotel for 2 nights on the last stretch of The Pennine Way. Katie was a wonderful host and made our time there extremely enjoyable. If you're travelling on the A68 through the border country plan to leave 40 minutes early to ensure you don't miss out on breaking your journey here. Toilets, tea, cakes and even a beer plus the friendliest welcome we've ever received in a tea room. Last time we travelled down from Jedburgh to Hexham we deliberately planned a stop here... More
