I'd really recommend The Devil's Stone Inn if you're the sort of person after the friendly local atmosphere pubs had before gastropubs became a thing. The pub was packed with locals when we arrived about 5pm on a Sunday and the landlady and barman were friendly when we bought our drinks - and reassured us there'd be room to sit...

Very interesting pub in a small hidden-away village.the locals have to turn the stone on 5 November to keep the devil away for another year.Huge dog greets you at the bar.The locals say he is very friendly but he looks rather frightening.3 excellent beers on tap and good wholesome food, reasonably priced. no ghosts seen at the lunchtime visit.

Rooms were comfortable but basic with plenty of hot water and tea making facilities. Cooked breakfast served with plenty of tea and toast. No menu though!!! Landlord and Landlady very friendly especially their dog who was a real star!!! Ate alone for breakfast on both days!!! Very near to a Church where we worshipped on Sunday morning before leaving Shebbear!!!

We were staying at the Woodford Bridge Country Club with several family members and were looking for somewhere nearby with atmosphere and authenticity (and reasonable prices for our poor Aussie dollar!) to have dinner. The Devil's Stone Inn fitted the bill - it was close by, had a historic pedigree, a legend to match, friendly hosts and food that was...

We stayed here during the North Devon walking festival and disliked it intensely. The landlord and landlady were very unfriendly and rude and the atmosphere was dour. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. They said they were trying to sell it as were fed up of it ( you could tell ) so hopefully the new owners will be...

Had a lovely meal here tonight, skate wing with capers, local steak which was juicy and tender, homemade chips. £5 menu on a Monday which was busy tonight. Bed and breakfast available. Dogs allowed. Chris Hurst (landlady) is very accommodating. Lovely evening.

We were staying in a self catering apartment opposite The Devil's Stone Inn and found it to be a great place to eat in the evening. I can highly recommend their homemade steak and ale pie and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the mixed grill, which included steak, and was actually more than he could eat. We opted for a lighter...

As we were staying in a self-catering apartment in Shebbear we thought we just had to try out the local inn food and drink - The Devil's Stone Inn was just across the road so no problems about drinking and driving. It was a Friday evening and so very busy, packed mainly with locals - admittedly we had to wait...

A large group of us stayed here for two nights as we were attending a wedding locally. For the money, the rooms were good. They were clean and the beds were very comfy. We ate in the pub one night and found the food filling, tasty and good value for money, as was the selection of beer and wine available....
