Travelling around the South Island we were told not to stay at this camp as the facilities were very poor. However we looked at later reviews and saw that there was a new ablution block so decided to stay. Unfortunately we didn't ask to have a site near the new block and were placed in a site right beside the...

I am super happy that we chanced upon this campground. Fantastic location, great spot to walk on the beach, view the sunrise, enjoy the peace. Great facilities - everything is very new and clean. Plenty of room for people to eat. Need to pay for showers but then at such a remote location I can understand that. We surely would...

Some years ago Curio Bay must have been a insider tip, but no longer. The Curio Bay Holiday Park has got a huge area between bushes close to the bay. Toilets and showers are clean and located in new containers. The campsite (one person + tent + car) was cheap (15 NZD). There is a surf school at the campsite

We were driving the Southern scenic route and saw the Curio Bay Camp Ground. We are not campers but like beautiful scenery. This camp ground did not disappoint. You can drive your car right up to Porpoise Bay to enjoy the view. Awesome. The wind was fierce and the waves were huge. We got some really great pictures when the...

We camped here in November while bicycle touring around the Catlins. The weather was very wet, cold and windy and the owner advised us to camp in the day shelter for the night which was much appreciated. The facilities (kitchen and shower) were basic but at the time new facilities were being built. A great location at a good price...

We visited Curio Bay just in the afternoon and did not stay at the campground. We parked in the lot that indicated there was a petrified forest on the beach. We walked down and hunted around and found a few petrified logs. We then walked up to the top of the campground area where we could see Porpoise Bay. We...

We only stayed the one night in an unpowered tenting site but thought it was excellent here. It pays to get here early afternoon and set up as it gets quite busy later on. This is especially so if you have a bigger tent as there are only a few sites suited to the big tents. The facilities are excellent...

Great campsite in fantastic spot. There is now a brand new kitchen/laundry/shower/toilet block. Swam with dolphins and saw lots of yellow eyed penguins. Previous reviews have talked about the cost being too high. The campsite is run by the Catlins Community Trust and the money goes to a good cause, to help protect the area and wildlife that the visitors...

Great location, but camp facilities are very old. Suspect something political brewing over this property with tourism developers circling like sharks, meaning no money currently being spent on any upgrades. Scariest shower I have ever had in an old water tank with no light, at least the water was hot!
