There were seven of us who rented three rooms, three Americans and four Costa Ricans. We have positive and negative experiences at this resort. The hotel and hot springs are well thought of with a variety of hot spring pools in a beautiful natural setting. The check in was painless and we were offered a welcoming drink, a very nice gesture. The check out was similarly easy. We were disappointed because during our visit the jacuzzi was never turned on even though we were told that it was going to be turned on at 9 a.m. At first the bedroom looked like a warm and spacey room, however, as we later discovered the bed was too soft, the shower was a tall-wall bathtub difficult and dangerous to get in speciality for older people. The shower curtain could not hold the water inside the tub. There was no safety bar to hold on to when getting in the tub. Why a bathtub as a shower at this level of a hotel?? There was NO FREE coffee available in the room, very unusual for this category of hotel. This is the first time that I see a charge for coffee, different from all the world hotels where I have stayed. As a world traveler, when I comprare the breakfast at Baldi with others, I find Baldi’s breakfast mediocre, because there is not enough variety of foods. The Costa Rican buffet lunch was truly a great disappointment. The food was not fresh, poorly seasoned and it didn’t even include tortillas….a terrible impression of the country’s food. The only item that was truly good was the chicken and vegetable soup. The price was very high for the quality of this buffet, $22 per person. …
We loved our stay at Baldi! I originally booked a stay at Tabacón, which is known to be higher end, but upon re-budgeting, decided to book Baldi. I was worried that it would feel tackier/more Disney-esque and was pleasantly surprised. Upon checking in, we were greeted with drinks (alcoholic and nonalcoholic) and warm customer service. We were even driven to our room. The grounds were gorgeous; the landscaping was impeccable and the pools were tranquil. They ranged in shapes, sizes, and temperatures. We also indulged in a couples hot volcanic stone massage at the spa. That experience was so meditative and it granted us access to additional hot springs- because we had the last spa appt of the day, we had the springs to ourselves. The room was standard but made more inviting with towel art. Ultimately, staying at Baldi is about experiencing the wonders of Arenal and Baldi certainly allowed for that. …
Bought day pass and had a great time. There are 25 pools to choose from in varying temperatures. Grounds are lush, well cared for and the slides are exhilarating! We really enjoyed it, but met people there who are staying at the hotel and they shared the rooms, food, and service did not live up to/Match what you would expect after seeing the hot springs. Drinks were expensive… more than US prices ehich I thought was a bit too much so we ordered one and that was it. Overpriced drinks for sure.
It was my first time in a Hot spring. It was an amazing experience. They have several pools with different temperatures. I wish I have more time in Costa Rica so I would spend a night in the hotel to enjoy more. You can see the Arenal vulcano inside the resort.
I gave this a 3 because the hot springs were great however the hotel is probably only a 2. Customer service and food are a 1. We had issues with the room and no manager to be found We were a group and 2 rooms were handicap even though we didn’t ask for handicap However they turned out better then the 3rd room that had water leaking from the light above the bed. There solution was to move the bed. Not even an I’m sorry or anything. They were just robots. They couldn’t give a recommendation for anything from restaurants to activities totally useless. I would skip staying here and just get a day pass for the springs. They were nice and it was not crowded like others stated. We made the best of it but will not go back.
We stayed at Baldi March 11th to 14th. The Hot Springs Pools are awesome. The food not so good there. Room 1307 - Beware - Toilets do not flush well. I had water leaking from the ceiling, from a light in the ceiling, dripping onto the bed. I reported it, they did nothing but move the bed, out of the way and brough in a dehumidifier. Did not fix the water leak, did not even put a bucket down, Came back to my room to a puddle on the floor. When you ask to speak to a manager there, they always say, the manager is not in yet, for three days, we were told the same. They charge you if you do not have the 2 pool towels, 2 umbrellas and 2 robes. My brother in law used the umbrella, we left if by our towels and robes while in the hot spring pools, someone took his umbrella. We reported it to the front desk, upon check out, still had to pay for it. be careful, they have what seems to be people walking around taking items (our observation), so they can make more $$$. Hotel very old, needs major updating. Hot Springs pools are awesome. I'd say, go for a day trip, do not stay at this hotel.…
We have taken our 3 kids (under 14) to Baldi twice now. Both times we’ve just purchased a day pass. It’s convenient as you’re able to come and go through out the day. The grounds are amazing and there is a pool for everyone! If we do come back I would like to stay on property at least a few days.
On our visit to La Fortuna, we planned to spend time enjoying the hot springs and decided to go to Baldi based on the reviews. Our party was three children, 9 to 14, their parents, and two grandparents. When we arrived we purchased a day pass and received a thorough explanation of the different parts of the complex and each of us found pools to our liking with different temperatures and varying anounts of seclusion. Those of us who ate lunch enjoyed the food. We went on a weekday and never felt crowded or rushed.
I was looking for a place to enjoy hot springs in La Fortuna , and reading some reviews, I was not sure about this place , we went to other place first but it was full so we decided to go to Baldi, we arrived around 10:am , we got our tickets with lunch included and all was actually very good !! place was not full, beautiful gardens, lunch was delicious, so my experience was very good !
This is a great resort feel. We typically look for a local feel, and were pleasantly surprised by the seclusion of the pools. We were expecting lots of kids and people, but were the only ones in several pools. We went for the 6:00 pm dinner. The buffet wasn’t anything special, but had a variety of options. We loved the pools in the middle!! Definitely not your natural hot spring feel, but the swim up bars and seclusion made it feel special. Just a heads up, the drinks were more expensive the higher the pool number (it got a bit steep and we wish we would have know — would have considered getting more!) Would definitely recommend!
