City Palace Oldruitenborgh is located in a former manor, which was inhabited for some time by a branch of the local noble Sloet family. The origins of this manor probably date back to the 14th century, but the current elongated building with some outbuildings, such as a coach house, is the result of major renovations in the mid-18th century and early 19th century. Oldruitenborgh is a fairly austere, shallow country house ... flanked on both sides by wings. After the residents left, the building served as town hall for some time. It now houses a hotel with accommodation for meetings, weddings, receptions, etc., with approximately 14 rooms. We had a pleasant stay there. Please note... the hotel rooms have a low ceiling with beams... if you are taller than 1.90m, you have to be careful not to hit your head. Beautiful park, beautiful view of the Kleine or Mariakerk, the hotel is located on the edge of the beautiful town of Vollenhove, which has many interesting buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. We also liked the hotel restaurant.. nice dining room (with a high ceiling, very high even). The entourage is rather emphatically referred to as "regal" and "royal". Don't let that put you off...the breakfast at €19.50 p.p. was surprisingly simple! Pleasant place to stay.

The staff was very welcoming and gave us tips on where to travel in the area. The rooms were beautiful and clean. The breakfast in the morning was also very good. The food was great and very fresh and the lady serving us was very helpful. The hotel grounds were very well kept and the building was beautifully decorated.

Wonderful estate to stay in, it was great again! a beautiful hotel where you are really treated as a guest.
We slept in the coach house, which is highly recommended, quiet and fully equipped. Ate in the restaurant 4 courses with a delicious Rioja
Maaike can cook, it was delicious again. And the breakfast was so delicious and a friendly lady who took care of you down to the last detail.
We have been coming there for years and it is always TOP.
And then how clean it is, really really clean. A big 10 for the housekeeping.
We'll be going again soon.

Beautiful! The environment, the rooms, the decor, the restaurant, staff. All equally nice, kind and/or beautiful :). Beautiful surroundings, ideal location to explore this part of the Netherlands. We had all 3 rooms in the "Koetshuis".

First the positives: the building is beautiful, our room was comfortable, the staff were friendly & the breakfast (despite what some other reviews claim) was delicious (including yoghurt & fresh fruit). So far, so perfect. However, the hotel is old & there’s not much sound insulation. Each room is very close to the corridor. I was woken through the night on the hour every hour by a clock chiming in the hallway. Then, to make things worse, a group of foreign guests had to leave early & made a lot of noise opening & closing doors between 5:30 & 7am. Not a good night’s sleep unfortunately. A real shame as we loved everything else about the hotel.

We had wanted to see this area of the Netherlands for some time, and this was one of the places we picked. As a much younger woman I had spent some time sailing here, and my husband's uncle was hidden here during the war, when his plane was shot down. What a lovely small town! I picked the B&B because we like them, they are generally friendly places and you pick up good ideas on where to go. There was no elevator to our room and we asked if there was a room on the ground floor. The manager asked if we would mind sleeping in the Koetshuis, the Coach House) and we were delighted when we saw it. Parking right at the door, a nice area to sit outside and enjoy the large lawn with old trees, a small kitchen with fridge and coffee/tea maker, and extremely comfortable beds as well as a modern bathroom. It was a lovely, quiet location and an easy walk to the harbor and village and the restaurant where we dined. I would stay there again, in fact, I will be back there in September!

Wonderfully welcoming staff.
Relaxed ambience throughout the property. Elegant dining rooms.
Large comfortable bedroom with good amenities in the room.
Very nice evening meal (for a separate price) and an enjoyable breakfast (included in the price).
Excellent value for money (in the week).
No lifts though so if you have big suitcases, this could be a problem (that said, the staff helped us up with our light bags).
The room we had had steps down into the room which made it difficult getting out as you had to step back down to pull the door inwards.
Would definitely like to come and stay at this property again.

My wife and I chose this hotel for a week's exploration in the Netherlands, and were delighted with our choice. We arrived at the hotel after a flight from North America, and started to drag our bags into the lobby. The owner had one look at us, and said "You'll never get those up the stairs, I'll put you in the coachhouse". As a result, we had a very private 2 room suite with a patio and were very comfortable for our entire stay. The location is stunning, and we enjoyed walking in the park and through the village. Hotel breakfasts were filling and delicious.
My only negative point was that the wi-fi system was not reliable - but this was being worked on during our stay. I can only hope that this part of the service has improved.
I would definitely stay here again. The owner and staff are friendly, and provided good recommendations on restaurants and activities.

The hotel seems to be in the middle of nowhere. Is it not the place were we all eventually want to stay from time to time ? The morning sun in the breakfast room looking out through the windows will put you in a contemplative mood. Ideal place for a romantic week or a busy professional brainstorming session. I was totally under the charm of this hotel, such a nice place to stay.
