We stayed here for two nights and absolutely loved it. We also did two nights at Gaya Island Resort and in comparison the things we loved about Bunga Raya were: 1. The staff are incredibly genuine and seem happy. This is instantly apparent from the...More

First impressions were not great as we arrived on the boat through the plastic polluted sea to a beach which was strewn with debris. The hotel manager, Tomas, met us on arrival and explained about the rubbish from the sea when the wind blows in...More

We spent 6 nights here after doing the Kinabatagan/Danum Valley circuit. Our plan here was just to relax and enjoy the beach/warmth, and that is exactly what we did. We stayed in one of the regular chalets, villa 50, which is furthest away at the...More

Stayed here for 5 nights at the end of our 3 week trip to Borneo, expecting a 5 star luxury hotel. The villas are beautiful, spacious and well furnished and the location is stunning. Lovely beach, fantastic views etc. Also nice to stay at a...More

This is simply the best resort I've ever stayed at. It has a unique location, in an isolated bay on an island about 30 minutes from Kota Kinabalu. The beach and water is fantastic (even though the ever present plastic pollution problem is quite evident...More

Security wise I think you’ll be fine. The only concern I would clarify with the hotel would be that many of the bungalows are up in the trees so the balcony’s are high up. This could be a little dangerous for little ones if... More

Good Morning We are planning a trip to one of the Rain Forest areas where we would like to do forest walking and beach swimming This hotel is obviously a very good one but we are extremely worried about the constant reports of rubbish on the beach Please advise if this is only washed in at night or does it happen throughout the day also? A business colleague has advised that there is an enormous Shanty Town on stilts nearby and that each hut has holes in the floor where they throw all their rubbish, household waste and one hole in the floor, is even a toilet! He says that absolutely everything is thrown or dropped down the holes into the waters beneath He has advised that the tides can carry the waste in any direction, towards any of the beautiful nearby islands and that unfortunately, this island is very close to the Shanty and thus suffers all the time Please advise if this information is correct
