Stay away. This is a 2-star B&B, ridiculously overpriced compared to any other place in the area (3-4 times), and with pretty bad service. Don’t waste your time spending the night here and go somewhere else, there are plenty of more beautiful places with better amenities and service. As confirmed also by other reviews, the manager, Ivan, is also extremely rude and unwelcoming, making having to deal with him a real pain. The staff provided very poor service, from having to wait for breakfast, to hunting for slippers and water because no one answers the phone, coffee “not allowed” in the rooms, requested stuff simply left in the lobby, people randomly walking into your room because wrongly instructed by staff, the list of poor service and bad experiences could go on and on.

I made my reservation around 6 weeks ago, mainly because i wanted to eat at La Madernassa. This morning I took an almost a six hour drive (traffic was bad) from Cannes, France to this location. So, i promise you if i was not looking forward to my dinner, I would not have driven so far!!! Yesterday I received an email asking me to make an appointment for check in between 2 - 4 PM. Also if I wanted to use their spa for free during public hours (4 - 6), i could make reservations. I immediately wrote and told them i would check in around 4 or so, and that i wanted to use the spa too. They wanted me to call 30 minutes before arrival. Today I called around 2 PM and said i would arrive within 30 minutes. The person who answered the phone (Ivan) was snappy and said it has to be at 4 PM. I immediately said not a problem and that i would park the car and walk around...which is what i did. I was taken aback a bit but was not ready to have any negative thinking. I arrived. Took a nice walk. Went by Madernessa. Met two very nice servers chatting with each other: Marco and Guivano (i am misspelling and mispronouncing). They were truly nice and welcoming. I was happy with their garden. On my facebook page I wrote a posting saying "i feel so lucky!!" Famous last words... At 4 sharp, a sweet lady (Laura) shook my hand and checked me. By the time i got in my room was around 4:20 I had spa reservation at 4:30. They loaned me a robe, small towel, and small pair of shoes for 7 euro (fair). Laura walked me to the spa. I asked her if others come or not. She said no. She showed me the curtains and instructed me to shut them. Which is what i did. I noticed she had left the key outside the door, on the key hole. I thought she had forgotten that. I took the key and locked the door but put the key on a shelf (i.e. not in the key hole). In about 10 minutes Ivan showed up, knocking loud on the door. I opened the door. He yelled at me saying i was using the spa during public hours, not private hours, and this means the door had to be open (i.e. not just unlocked, ajar) and at the same time he had the curtains aggressively open....so here i am, standing in front of his with a small towel covering what i needed to cover most, and a totally glass wall going across all spa, with whoever, if any, passing by potentially being able to look in. i.e. no privacy. truly public if you know what i mean... It was kinda surreal. I was like is this really happening? I told myself maybe it is Italian passionate talking and best just focus on having a great time. After sauna, I was going to my room but stopped by the reception area to confirm wifi password. I saw Ivan getting in. I asked him if he were Ivan (I did not have my eye glasses on while in the sauna!) He said yes. I told him nicely and softly: "Ivan, your emails are so nice and polite but you were rather rude to me in the sauna" He yelled "you had shut the sauna door and curtains were shut".. I said Laura told me to shut the curtains. He said "Laura does not know. She has been with the company one week." I said " how do i know how long whoever has been with the company? to me, she is the representative telling me what to do. Then he says if the door is locked and something happens to me, it would be his fault. I told him "excellent point. But what would you do if someone locks the door and runs away with the key" deer in the headlights! He raised his voice again and told me to stop talking and listen to him, which then i raised my voice telling him not to interrupt me.. ... he said "get out of my resort!" WTF. resort? this is a 3 star hotel at best! I give it good rating for cleanliness from what i saw. But this is not a 4 star hotel equivalent type of place. Total nut case. I packed and left. Essentially spending less than 10 minutes in the room after the argument. Enough to call a friend to tell him if he does not hear back from me within 20 minutes to call the police. I drove to the restaurant (which was still closed) and told the servers (Marco and G. ) that i had met about the situation and asked them to tell the manager. I canceled my dinner and told them not to charge my card. They told me Ivan is the owner's son-in-law! Called the credit card company to give them heads up and will be monitoring my card. You be the judge. I wonder how many people, regardless of gender feel it is safe to showcase semi or almost naked in a sauna, where the whole encasing of the sauna and all front wall are glass, with a key outside the door on the key hole? And should they not have a second key to open the door anyways in case the door is locked from inside (obviously with the key not on the keyhole). Bigger problem, who does this guy think he is to talk to customers in this tone and such a loud manner? There are plenty more options in the area. In all my years of traveling so many countries and staying at such a variety of places, never had such a surreal and horrible experience. So i spent rest of the day driving to Torino, looking for a hotel, and finding a simple restaurant to eat as i had lost my appetite thanks to this drama. If this writing helps you make a more informed decision, i am happy.

My family (18 of us) and I just recently stayed at Casalora for my brothers wedding. It was absolutely gorgeous tucked back in a hill top with vineyards surrounding you. Not one of my family members could say a bad thing about this place, stunning views, helpful staff, and the cleaning of our rooms was out of this world! Very nice place to stay, I recommend it 100%

Discovered this place almost by chance through a friend's recommendation. After staying two nights I cannot imagine how there are any negative reviews although it is true that it is now under new management by a young man named Ivan. He was smart, available and also balanced enough that one feels they have privacy at this residence, the management leaves you alone to enjoy your time without breathing down your neck! Very easy to organize activities including massage right there on the property and tons of info on the area and things to do. The rooms are spacious, simple, airy, with charming decor and modern and clean bathrooms. Access is granted to the Madernassa pool which is absolutely amazing infinity edge with a view that is just stunning. Could have stayed at the pool forever. Nice range of people and ages at Casalora and the pool: young singles, couples, families and senior citizens from all over Europe. Heard the Madernassa restaurant is very good and can imagine it would be an incredible sunset meal with a really really ideal view, and you receive 10% discount from being a Casalora guest. We explored some local restaurants that were exquisite and much more economic for our budget. Perfect weekend escape or holiday and an outdoor breakfast view that is beatable (same view from all the rooms!) And I have seen some pretty beautiful places.
