Travellers' Choice
Ettington Park Hotel, the only AA 4 Red Star hotel in Stratford-Upon-Avon, is set in 40 acres of parkland in a verdant valley with the River Stour meandering through it. Situated just six miles from the centre of the famed home of Shakespeare and just a few miles from the start of The Cotswold Way, this spectacular property is a world apart from the hustle and bustle of contemporary life. Built from six types of Cotswold stone, Ettington Park is furnished with fine paintings and decorated with friezes that trace its centuries of tradition and heritage. This is a country house where historic extravagance meets contemporary comfort.

Booked to come for afternoon tea to celebrate a friend’s birthday. It totally exceeded expectations, the setting is beautiful and the staff so welcoming and helpful. We opted to sit outside to admire the view. The food was outstanding and beautifully presented and we ate far too much! The birthday girl was surprised with a special little birthday cake, a lovely touch. Our day was made even more special by Damion who offered to give us a tour of the hotel and grounds - we felt like VIP’s & will definitely be back.

Having last stayed in October, just before the lockdown kicked in I wanted to return to experience the hotel in fully summer swing, sadly Boris moved the goal posts slightly so we were still under restrictions, but the absolutely outstanding weather made up for that. I had booked direct with the hotel in February and was able to secure one of their “dog friendly” rooms, this is the main reason I stayed before, they have a handful of their garden rooms allocated for canine residents, perfectly placed with a French window right out into the gardens which make them perfect for visiting four legged friends, of course dogs aren’t everybody’s cup of tea which is why the rooms are in a specific location, must be pre booked and the dog visit agreed in advance so that all the luxury dog bedding, feeding station and treats can be available in room and I’m expect to ensure the hotel doesn’t stray from its exceptionally high standards by having too many canines visit at one time. The weather was blistering hot, so my Labrador made great use of the bedroom air conditioning, she would happily lie in the room watching activities outside from the window and then go for gorgeous walks in the early morning and evening. We were able to have our breakfast served outside on the hotel patio each morning along with additional sausage and bacon for the dog, and if was the premium sausage and bacon nothing but the best for the canine visitor. It was lovely to see the hotel with lots more life and people, it is an amazing building, the private swimming pool facilities are a big bonus too, no members at this leisure facility only hotel guests. We ate on all 3 evenings at the hotel either outside or in the oak room restaurant. What was lovely to see were some friendly faces from October, especially Ana who said “ I remember your dog she had just had an operation when she came last time” which was absolutely true! This kind of personal service flows right through the hotel, the people really care, all the people from bar, reception, maintenance to house keeping always have a friendly “good morning” as they pass you through the hotel, especially Damien who seems to pop up all round the hotel in different departments. Handpicked hotels, which Ettington is part of, operate a great loyalty scheme “privilege rewards” which rewards you the more you visit their properties and spend, I have been a member for a number of years and find it a super scheme, so much so I must have become a good spender as I received a letter personally signed by Julia Hands thanking me for my custom and enclosing a voucher for a champagne afternoon tea for 2, which we made great use of at Ettington - another fine example of how Handpicked look after their guests from top to bottom. So if I was asked the question will I stay again? I think people will know the answer, I’m aiming to come back in the Autumn. Best of luck to all the team at Ettington over the summer and of course hosting all those weddings!

We visited for afternoon tea to end a Hen weekend in Stratford. From booking by phone to leaving after the tea, the entire staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and we all left with boxes of leftovers!! An enormous congratulations to all of you there for continuing (in these difficult times) to provide such a wonderful service!
