If you ideal getaway is a walk in the forest, followed by a few drinks in a pub with lots of atmosphere, followed by an excellent meal in their restaurant and rolling into a charming hotel room then you cannot go wrong with the Griffin. The village is beautiful. The pub has real character and the staff are amazing. There...

We stayed here for just one night to attend a function nearby. We had never stayed here before as we used to live nearby and had eaten here several times. Living further away we decided to stay and loved it. The room was very comfortable and cosy. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and dinner was excellent and...

We had a late lunch. The pub was warm, cosy & laid back. Everyone was friendly and the food was expensive but delicious. We had fish and chips, and beef pie with salty & buttery mash and the green veg. We wish we lived nearby as we would love to come more often!

The Griffin has one of the best views in Sussex, so in the summer the vast pub garden is the perfect place to wile away a lazy afternoon. In January, things are naturally more internal. While the view is basked in fog, clouds or darkness, The Griffin is still worth a visit. The food is expensive, but offers commensurate value;...

We've been fans of The Griffin for over 30 years - but having now moved hundreds of miles away, rarely have the opportunity to visit - but we were delighted to discover that nothing has changed! Still wonderfully relaxed and welcoming with top class cooking and informal, but excellent service. It's a combination that makes for a really enjoyable visit...

I was lucky enough to be one of five us who had luncheon here last Friday. We had been before five years ago ( We live a considerable distance away...in Shropshire)..and eaten in the dining room, and I always wanted to return. I was not disappointed. We had reserved a table in the bar which was a round table set...

Last time I ate there, James the boss, told me he had a bad review on tripadvisor. Cannot understand. I've been eating there since 1997 when we moved to Nutley and used to go probably on average, once a month. Once I relocated due to work, in 2002 I've only been able to get there sporadically but anytime I was...

Return visit after quite a break. Only wanted a light lunch. We had scallops starter which was excellent with a delicate fishy mushroom sauce. Went very well with the scallops. I had mussels with skinny chips. Mussels were juicy and plump and perfectly cooked with a lovely creamy white wine accompaniment. Prices just about right. A good lunch.

We met with friends for a post Christmas lunch. It was quite a drive for us but was a lovely find. The space in the bar was very tight between tables. unfortunately a lady wanted to stand right behind my chair whilst talking to someone and I could hardly move. That aside the food and drinks were lovely. My prawn...

We decided to spend a couple of days away from home to celebrate 40 years of married life and having eaten at the Griffin a few times, booked into one of their rooms for two nights. We ate there both evenings - restaurant the first and bar meal the second as it was a Sunday. In fact the bar meal...
