This is a secluded hotel in the lowland rainforest near the Nicaragua border. Rooms are rather rustic and quite hot, with only a fan to cool you off. Meals are all taken on a broad wooden wrap-around covered porch where you can view macaws, toucans, hummingbirds, and parrots from the comfort of the platform. (Nice for when it rains, which...

We enjoyed our bird photography practice there at the lodge, there are a few bird feeding stations at the bar restaurant of the lodge. Plenty of opportunities to practice close bird photography, even took three different kinds of toucans within 5 meters. Food was good and healthy, only suggestion I can give about this lodge is that they can provide...

Very isolated - about 1.5hrs from Pital on a very rough road, but absolutely worth it. Bird life outstanding and of all the places we went in Cost Rica, here we had the best and closest views. Comfortable rooms and helpful and friendly staff. Intermittent wifi in the restaurant area, due to remote location of lodge. A sign on the...

We spent 4 nights there with the intent to photograph birds. We did that and more! In addition to the woodpeckers, tanagers, aracari's, oropendolas, and toucans (Keel-billed and Yellow-throated), we photographed King Vulture, pit vipers, coatis, poison dart frogs, and fruit bats. The rooms were clean and the elevated dining area created a relaxing place to watch wildlife, enjoy a...

We were there end of January. Unfortunately we did not have a gps so the way to the lodge was an adventure itself. We were welcomed as we would be good friends. All employees are really nice and friendly. We did the boat trip and the guided jungle trip. Both have been very interesting (thank you, Michael). There were hundreds...

The lodge is situated close to Nicaraguan border. It has different type of rooms. We enjoyed sitting on the porch with a glass of wine/can of beer and watching the birds flying around (king vulture). Really relaxing. Meals are okay and staff is friendly. Unfortunately the night tour, feeding caymans, shows little respect for animals. It is with good intentions...

Laguna del Lagarto Lodge is located in an absolutely beautiful and truly fascinating setting. You are surrounded with an incredible variety of plant and animal life which can be enjoyed from the comfort of your balcony, the open air dinning room, canoeing through the lagoon or hiking one of many trails through the rain forest. As many other reviewers have...

If you only have one day to spend in Costa Rica, you want to go to Laguna del Lagarto. The lodge is 4 hours from the Juan Santa Maria Airport in Alajuela, but it is the most diverse destination in the country. From the dining room you will be able to photograph three species of toucans, Montezuma Oropendolas, Brown-hooded Parrots,...

The lodge is a long, bumpy drive to but worth it. We went as a group of bird photographers and were very happy with the large variety of beautiful birds that visited the vines and branches that are set up with bananas to attract them. The lodge itself is basic but clean. Wifi only near the lodge office. There is...

Laguna Del Lagarto is indeed a birdwatcher’s delight. Located north of San Jose, part of the lowlands close to the Nicaraguan border. The resort has tons of birds visiting the place all through the day. The accommodation is basic but comfortable. Bathrooms are likewise quite basic but do the job. Food which was served as a buffet given we were...
