Detailed Reviews
We booked the Three Cocks Inn last minute when we were looking for somewhere to stay for Green Man festival and it was honestly one of the nicest b&bs we’ve stayed - the staff were so accommodating and friendly and the rooms were beautiful and spotlessly clean.
In the end we decided to stay one more night and having sampled a few rooms, we were really pleased with the whole stay. Each room was so lovely and cozy and the beds were really comfy - having a nice bath to come back to and fully stocked with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel was a really nice touch. The Inn and rooms are full of character and charm and every amenity is provided. Lovely continental breakfast too. It was a real treat to come back here each night and we’ll definitely be back. I can’t recommend enough!

We just had a wonderful night’s stay at The Three Cocks and really can’t recommend it highly enough.
I confess to being an extremely fussy person when it comes to choosing hotels and always opt for 5* when travelling abroad.
I did have a few concerns about The Three Cocks as firstly it is 500 years old & secondly it is located roadside. However, there was no noise from the road at all and inside couldn’t have been more beautifully decorated and updated and there was no hint of spiders or cobwebs. Our bedroom (No. 4) and the whole place to be honest, is spotlessly clean. The linen, throws, cushions, towels etc all looked new and the bathroom was absolutely pristine. The tiles in the bath/shower were gleaming and it looked as though the grout was new.
Beautiful room and bathroom with lovely tea/coffee making equipment. Plenty of coffee & teabags (not your standard 2 teabags & a coffee sachet) lots of milk & sugar too. Lovely big mugs, again looked new.
This B&B is a family affair and really has been thought about in detail by Jess & Jack who have only owned it for a year. They were unfortunately away when we stayed but we had the pleasure of meeting Jess’s mum Julia who was on hand at breakfast time. The breakfast was a lovely continental breakfast with very generous portions. My husband and I opted for Greek yoghurt, honey & fresh fruit (strawberries, raspberries & blueberries) with granola sprinkled on top. Absolutely delicious & followed by lovely crumpets for my husband and fluffy toast & marmalade for me. Delicious!
We will definitely be back to stay again next year and hope the lovely panelled room is renovated and open for afternoon tea 😉

We booked the three cocks coaching inn with the view of visiting Hay on wye and Hereford. We found the hotel on booking.com and when we arrived we were not disappointed. We were the only guests staying that night so it was really quiet. The young owners were really lovely and have done a lovely job renovating the hotel, its spotlessly clean and has been decorated and furnished beautifully, being sympathetic to the period of the property. It is definately a work in progress as they have more plans to improve the stay. But we loved the feel and quirkyness of the hotel, and were looked after very well.
We will certainly recommend this lovely place. Give a go, you won't be disappointed.

The Three Cocks is a wonderful building that is bursting at the seams with charm and character. It has been lovingly restored by the two owners and obviously great care went into preserving every nook and cranny. Every room is full of surprise features and its a pleasure wandering through the halls discovering them one after the other. Even though it is an older building the amenities, such as bathrooms, tea & coffee stations and TVs are at a high modern standard. The rooms are exceptionally clean and comfortable. The boutique breakfast was delicious and quick. The freshly baked croissants were particularly delightful. We couldn't recommend this place more and will be sure to visit again.

We booked this B&B at very short notice and mainly because it looked cosy and is a short distance to the Dragons tail route across the Black mountains Brecon Beacons but soon realised this was a lucky find. Massive bedroom and bathroom, crisp linen, decent quality power shower and large bath with generous toiletries. We walked in stiff from our walk to a roaring duel sided log burner in an open sided ingle nook fireplace and soft leather furniture. The team had kindly booked a table a the equally charming Barn public house and restaurant opposite where I tucked into Roast Porkbelly stuffed with black pudding & Garden vegetables and my partner had a beautifully rare cooked steak. Later we returned to our room and feeling weary found the TV had all our favourite satellite channels and subscriptions. Breakfast is comprehensive and the team are very attentive in getting things just the way you like. Very tasty, immaculately cooked and I particularly loved the sausages.
This young couple in the last year have taken this place over and clearly worked hard on its renovation to restore its features and provide a quality service and stylish atmosphere. I am a Peter Sawdays approved places to stay fan and I can see this ambitious and passionate young couple finding their B&B perhaps being reviewed in the not too distant future. In the meantime folks their prices are very reasonable so now might be a good time to to try it. We will definitely be back!
Romantic couple on a weekend break & hiking who came for a change that was as good as a rest 😃

We stayed in room 5 and it was delightful. The floors are uneven but it is spacious and comfortable. The road noise was minimal and unobtrusive. The bed was very comfortable and we had two great nights sleep. The stairs to the rooms would not be suitable for someone with mobility problems but it’s definitely good value for money. There is plenty of space to relax in comfort and the staff are delightful. Plenty of parking and well placed for the black mountains and a short drive to Hay-on-Wye.

Fabulous renovation made for a very comfortable stay in a characterful room. Amazing attention to detail from the moment you step through the entrance, super comfy nights sleep, fresh and very clean. Our hosts were great and location is convenient for a few days walking in the hills and enjoying the delights of Hay-On-Wye. This stopover is highly recommended.
No restaurant but the Old Barn Inn is just over the road and well worth a visit.

Really lovely hotel, lovely garden out the back and plenty of on site parking. Room & bathroom are a nice size. Breakfast was good but no cooked option. All the staff were welcoming & helpful. Would recommend for a weekend away, lots of nice walks & things to do close by. The garden centre down the road a great to wonder around. The restaurant is currently closed and the ones near by close early, around 8pm. So we ate out of the village every night. There is also a co-op about 5/6 minutes drive away to buy snacks & sandwiches for lunch.

We loved staying over at this beautiful restored and sensitively modernised old coaching inn. Warm hospitality, help with our bags, everything we could have wished for...not forgetting stunning and strategic location for exploring. Thank you!

The breakfast is lovely eveything cooked to perfection they even made breakfast early for us because we had to leave for work. All in all great place, lovely people and lovely food hopefully stay again soon.
