Just spent a week camping in Southlake tahoe we had a great experience the facilities are great restrooms are clean & well kept. Showers have plenty of hot water after a long day of hiking and being on the lake . The staff is very...More
Loved the location, right across the street from the beach/water in South Lake Tahoe. Close to lots of places to eat and easy access to trails, etc. Bathrooms were old, but clean. Felt very safe and secure here, lots of patrolling. A real gem!
Campground right in the middle of the city without the feel of the city. Very close walking distance to the lake. Staff was very nice. Bathroom/shower area was not very clean, and needs modernization. Biggest drawback wad the bums in the camp using the facilities,...More
We stayed here for about 5 days. The location is great. Everything else, not so much. We brought 2 jeeps and a camper all on 1 trailer. We camped on the trailer, and had 2 jeeps on the campsite. The campsites are pretty big-which is...More

I stayed there 6 mos. ago and drove by first, then was told I had to book a site online. The campground is large and has many sections. Some have water and electric, some are primitive. I was tent camping and booked a site near the bathroom and a water spigot, so it was more convenient. I cannot recall the reservation process, but I do remember paying $36 and they took a deposit on my credit card. I stayed to the left of the office, section F. If you can see the map, pick whatever meets your needs. I selected each one to view them all. The map was accurate. Almost all sites were good. You just need to reserve one. I stayed end of June and it was almost full so I'm glad I got any spot. It's run by the city, so not a private park, but covered in large pine trees, so it feels like a bit of nature. Access to everything is good too. I stayed 2 nights and enjoyed hiking, walking the beach and the nearby restaurants. Good luck!

I've never heard of 'day camping', but there is a library on the east side of the campground with a free parking lot for day parking. There is also a lakeside park with a parking lot about a mile north and west of the campground, also free. The casinos probably wouldn't care if you parked and opened up your awning and chairs, for free. Sorry, but you might need to call the campground for more specifics.
