Lonely Beach is your unique opportunity to experience true beach life. We're situated in a remote bay in the North of Koh Rong, miles away from the party beach in the South. Before coming to lonely beach, would you kindly note that we are an eco resort which means that we're running our place on solar power. You'll have lights in your bungalow. Plugs to recharge your camera or mobile are available in the restaurant during daytime. Taking care to run the resort in the most ego-friendly way possible, water conservation is also a priority. Our bathrooms include Western style bucket toilets and traditional Khmer style bucket showers. Please note that the best way to come to Lonely Beach is to contact us before booking any return ticket. Depending on the season, on the forecast and on your location, we will give you the best options to reach us. Please, feel free to ask for more information.

Detailed Reviews
We have just returned to the UK, but continue to miss the chilled setting that is lonely beach and the friendly permanent staff and the volunteers that made our 8 night stay so memorable.
Our stay was planned over 6 months ago directly with Julia, who emphasised the type of resort we were coming to prior to our booking and the most appropriate accommodation for our needs. The boat across from Sihanoukville leaves at 2pm for Palm beach and takes over 2 hours and then you transfer to a smaller boat for the final 15 minutes journey to this wonderful location. Sihanoukville is currently a town planners nightmare as virtually every road is being dug up as the Chinese take over this area so it requires some planning to avoid staying a night there.
Our accommodation was clean and had mosquito nets, but the real charm was the Cambodian cold showers. The accommodation was only 30 metres from the beach but it is immersed in the natural habitat and some creatures do visit or make noises. The actions of the staff appear to minimise the impact of sand flies at lonely beach as we only experienced these bites at a different location on Koh Rong, however bring plenty of mosi spray for dawn and dusk.
The food was good and reasonably priced although given the location some items were not always available, but there was a nightly fish BBQ which was very tasty and provides a social environment for interaction with other guests from around the world. The evening beach bar was also a friendly place to meet other guests.
We went on two organised snorkelling boat trips with Danny, which were great fun but there is also snorkelling available from the beach. There are also walks available and this was our big regret not bringing proper walking shoes in addition to flip flops for the beach location.
A big thanks to everyone for our stay and for anyone wishing to try a eco resort we would wholly recommend.

Jeff, Julia and Dany are the first familiar faces you encounter on arrival to the sunny white-sand and blue-water coastline of Lonely Beach. Just beyond the shade of palms, you arrive into this world designed to experience a space where humans coexist with nature. And it doesn’t take long before you start appreciating this space bare feet. It is carefree and lucid walking. It’s important to move around, explore a bit. There are little pockets of solitude hidden all around this mini-universe. Find a hammock, go for a swim, sit, read, listen to music, do as you must. Do not be afraid to walk down the extents of the beach, there are some hidden spots you can call your own! Mine was under the tree that leans over the water. There’s even a bench, it offers one of the best seats to the theatrical sunsets here. If you look, you’ll find it.
Nothing artificial or too forceful installed, everything here is somehow so easy on the eyes. It’s easy to interact with people here too. There are no obligations but a good chat is always welcome. Better ones, however, happen only at the beach bar over drinks. Ask for an eco shot.
There is a sense of familiarity here. From what I have experienced, my hosts weren’t entrepreneurs rolling in cash loads who happen to own this piece of paradise but are those travellers who always fondly appreciated the welcome they received on their personal travels. And it is this sense of family that they extend to everyone who sets foot on Lonely Beach at 1645hrs every day! Life at Lonely Beach is in fact within a world of its own. Four weeks are nearing to an end as I write this. My time here has been that of human interaction. People from all around and from all walks can be found sharing this piece of paradise. Lonely Beach becomes like home very soon. My time here is like the story of when I met a person who didn’t speak my tongue but we spoke about everything. All it took was to forget who we are but remember who we were.

I am currently in quarantine at Lonely Beach.
I escaped to the most isolated beach in Cambodia
The bungalows are widely spread a way of each other
So no danger of contamination.
We are a few corona collateral victims stranded here waiting for a better future to keep on travelling.
We are finally very lucky to have found this piece of paradise to spend the coming weeks in isolation of the civilisation
The owners are very nice, and very helpful

Spent 14 days here with kids aged two, six and eight - absolutely enjoyed every moment! Swimming, snorkling, building sand castels and relaxing on the long, magnificient beach. Fantastic sunsets. Bungalows are minimalistic but very well functioning and well kept. Bucket showers and solar power felt completely natural after just one day. Good daytrips to snorkeling spots and other parts of Koh Rong are offered. Restaurant has nice, varied food at reasonable prices. Run by lovely people that we left with an emotionel goodbye.

We started off the stay happy to experience a basic stripped back way of life but left feeling frustrated at a few things. The owner insulted my sister telling her her job was ‘boring’ and after changing a sandwhich as we didn’t want some of the items in it, which they said you can do, there is a sign up saying so, he told us that it ‘wouldn’t be tasty’ which was a strange thing to say as it was the nicest thing we ate our whole stay and asked us don’t we like salad? It is not up to him to question what we do or don’t like and was irritating. The washing that came back had an item missing which no one seemed to care about and comes back with some things damp and screwed up. Every single time we’ve done washing, and we’ve been travelling for 2
Months it comes back neatly folded, but here they just shoved in a bag so everything is creased. We found the food average and quite pricey but as it’s the only place to eat and in the middle of nowhere we assumed this is why the prices were more than we are used to.
Upon checkout the owner was talking about us in Another language to another couple which made us feel very uncomfortable and is extremely unprofessional! we couldn’t wait to leave and because of this didn’t feel like we wanted to engage with him anymore and explain these issues to him In person. The location is amazing, although some areas run down, the yoga teacher was beautiful and so friendly but we wouldn’t stay there ever again based on our experiences that I’ve shared.

Lonely beach seems to sadly be a far cry from its former self with at least 50% of the “resort” now derelict since COVID - 19.
Although a fun and interesting journey, the $30 USD return journey per person via motor taxi immediately puts this place at the expensive end of the spectrum, with much better value for money to be had in the South of the Island.
The host Dany is very friendly and knowledgeable but perhaps a little too honest. When he checked us in to our bungalow he explained that they’ve have had a break-in every 2 weeks over the last year, with peoples money and possessions being taken in the night while they slept! He also pointed out ‘booby traps’ around our bungalow, specifically planks of wood with nails in below the windows. Being extremely remote and backed by dense jungle this seemingly made us a little nervous.
When the sun came out and the tide went out we realized why Lonely Beach is a favorite spot amongst traveler’s, but unfortunately it seems eco tourism is an excuse for untidiness. Although Dany very fairly cites the pandemic as an excuse for the current shape of the place, I can’t see why this has stopped him doing a little tidying up, at least some gardening and picking up some of the plastic which littered the BBQ area and beach might make it a little more inviting to future guests.

We spent three days in the hotel. It is a great place if you like adventure. It makes you feel what it is to live without running water, limited wifi and comfort of civilization. The surroundings are of paradise beauty. Do not stay in a hotel all the time but explore. We visited the village close by, swam on the adjacent beaches and went to the island with coral reefs. Dany, a French guy, 30 years living in Cambodia, is working hard to keep the place running. He is a kind of guru speaking about ecology and sustainability. Covid hit him hard. In Cambodia there was no government support for his hotel and as a result no maintenance was done. He is doling his best to keep this place going. There is a big veranda where you eat and socialize. We had an ashram feeling. The sphere is great. We liked the breakfast pancakes of the French chef who is working with Dany.
The main negative factor was the plastic in the surroundings of the hotel. The owners do not have the mentality to ask the security guys to clean the rubbish. This need to be changed. We even cleaned the beach a bit but there is too much to be done.
In summary, go if you are an adventurous type, enjoy the surroundings, socialize and clean the adjacent beaches!

Generally, I enjoyed my stay though the place has its drawback. Food and drinks are a bit overpriced and the food was not great. Bungalows are not right by the beach and are overpriced and come with lots of ants (at least mine was crawling with ants though the owners [Julia, in particular was awesome] were very concerned and helped to spray for it - thanks). French owners really ripped me off with their "private boat transfer" and then after dropping me off, they uploaded several guests though I paid very expensive for the entire boat trip as a "private transfer". They really should not do this to their guests - be reasonable. The beach is nice with palm trees and hammocks that break. :)

The 1st time we came we stayed in the dorm and it was lovely. Very clean, super friendly staff, you can hear the ocean while falling asleep, the beach is truly picture perfect and we totally fell in love with it. So we came back for our honeymoon and stayed in the super luxury bungalow and it was even better than we expected. I especially loved that there is a little gap in the roof, so you can see the stars while showering. Speaking of stars, you can see the milky way clearly, as if it was on a poster. The host is a french man named Dany. He told us that you can see glowing plankton at night and did not promise too much. It was truly magical. The food is super tasty and a good mix of local delicacies and some western stuff. We decided to come back at least every year. Last but not least, we met a few digital nomads and home office travelers and thought it's a pretty cool idea. Who wouldn't want to do home office on the beach?
So to sum it all up: It is what you make of it. The host can make it happen.
