I go here all the time. Usually just me and the dog and chill with a beer and maybe lunch. It's quaint and an eclectic mix of styles from the turn of the 19th century. It's a great place to sit and people watch and great if you want to nip over on the ferry from central Auckland. Service to...

We had booked two nights here and were looking forward to it. First impressions as pulled up were looks a lovely old hotel in a great location. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist and given our room key - this is where our experience took a sudden dive. The room we were given was at the back of the...

We booked a two night stay the room was amazing the views of the harbour and auckland were breathtaking. The room was awesome although the windows were dirty and the bathroom could have been cleaner. The staff were friendly enough. We booked a table for dinner outside which they said was OK but when we turned up for dinner there...

Pub food is traditionally "hit and miss" but the Esplanade Hotel is definitely a "hit!" Tried the Mussels and Chips between Christmas and New Year. Wow, what a delicious surprise! The bucket of Mussels was huge and more than enough to satisfy two hungry seafood aficionados. Cannot wait to go back and do the Mussels again but might be tempted...

Caught the ferry over from the Auckland CBD to Devonport to check out the village atmosphere. Looked around the shops and then decided to have lunch at the Esplanade Hotel. Apparently built around the 1900's it has a number of period features including high pressed metal ceiling and large windows. We decided to have the shared sea food plate for...

The hotel is well situated for the ferry to Auckland and immediately adjacent to a pleasant park. At lunchtime on a cool day, this was just what we needed. Initially we pulled some tables together outside to review the menu which included some tasty snacks. Bless her, the young lady who served us didn't actually know what a Croque Monsieur...

We booked a Flagstaff Room via a booking platform and checked the hotels website -- from the reviews and website impression we thought to stay at a classy hotel. That was not the case -- we got a room where the only clean thing seemed to be the bed, otherwise spider webs around the window, and dirty grouts in the...

Many thanks for your review. The room you booked was the cheapest one in the hotel and so it is the smallest. The outside is a disused fire escape which is still attached and is not for use. Most of the fire escapes had been removed many years ago but somehow the rear ones were left. This was the last...
