Myself and my wife stayed at the Monastery a few days ago and I have to compliment Barrie and Madeleine for their excellent hospitality. Our bedroom was spacious and there was a guest sitting room also. Breakfast was amazing! Barrie and Madeleine served us breakfast in their kitchen at their own table. We had a great chat about all things...

We have just finished our 5th weekend over the last 7 years with Barry and Madeleine. We again had a great time and enjoyed there company as they hopefully did ours. Breakfast is excellent and the rooms are very clean and quiet. I would highly recommend staying at The Monastery.

The Monastery b&b in Bracebridge is unusual, in terms of the spacious suites, beautiful woodsy environs, and excellent breakfast. The owners have created a very well thought through, and very considerate, establishment. Highly recommended.

As we live in a hundred year old rectory in Wales, UK, we thought it was only fitting that we should stay in The Monastery, Bracebridge, during our brief trip to the area. We did not book in advance but called from a tourist centre outside town. Within an hour we were being warmly welcomed by Barry and Madeline -...

This is our 4th visit her in 7 years with another couple, we sometimes travel with. We cannot say anything bad about The Monastery. It has history and that's what we like. Barry and Madeline are excellent host's."can't forget Abbot" The breakfast each time is always exciting and different. There are 3 suites, 2 of them have 2 bedrooms, all...

If you ever want to stay in Bracebridge overnight, The Monastery is the place. We stayed for two nights in the private downstairs two-bedroom suite because one of us has problem with stairs. A three-piece ensuite bath was included. The tub was accessible enough for the one with the disability. One bedroom had a queen-size bed; the other, which we...

My elderly Mum and I spent two nights with Barrie, Madeline and Abbott, and had a wonderful stay. The breakfasts were fabulous - healthy, but filling and original. I definitely need to try making the strawberry yoghurt "soup"! The rooms were clean, comfortable and all the little amenities were provided. I highly recommend The Monastery if you are looking for...

My wife, Carol, and I first met at The Monastery in 1981 when it really was a monastery: the Mission House of the Society of St. John the Evangelist. Carol was on retreat. I was a long-term visitor helping the community through a difficult period of its existence. Our one-night stay this year was a delight in every way. It...

My wife and I spent three nights at the Monastery to celebrate our 24th Wedding anniversary. We were not disappointed. Barrie welcomed us and made us feel at home. His breakfasts were excellent. No shortage on quantity of food either! Thanks Barrie for giving us maps of the area in which to visit. He knows those backroads that showed splendid...

MonasteryBracebridge, Owner at Monastery Bed & Breakfast, responded to this review

One of the joys of B&B operations is interacting with many wonderful guests. This couple (in addition to posting a generous review) was particularly enjoyable - part way through their stay, another group arrived having a member with very limited mobility, such that getting upstairs would have been a trial. Owen and his wife uprooted themselves from their main floor...

We surprised Barry with our early arrival, but you would never know it from his warm greeting. He showed us around the monastery, and made sure that we were settled in and comfortable before resuming his housework. We were introduced to Abbott, the labradoodle, who was friendly, but did not intrude on us. He seems more intent on keeping the...
