Firstly the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is clean and very well presented. The problem with this place is the noise. I’m not taking about the bar which is a problem in itself on busy nights but it’s the ridiculous lack of sound insulation between the rooms. They did a great job in renovating this hotel but obviously took the cheap option on the insulation on the drywall. I could hear every word, snore, cough, sniff from next door. I can detail the whole phone conversation including that of the person at the end of the line who was on speaker. It’s such shame as it’s a lovely set up. The other problem is the air conditioning. Every room has a modern air conditioner however they share compressors with other rooms so they only work on one setting which is not the one you want as the hotel fix it to the fan setting so no cool air if you need it. Again lovely people and a slick boutique type hotel but why oh why did they do such a poor job on the drywall between the rooms.

We planned a surprise birthday trip for our friend, and stayed at the Hume just a night. We had great service at check in that took into consideration our friend’s 50th birthday and checked with us the next day to hear how it went. Lots of great suggestions for our evening haunts and good clean rooms with comfy beds. It’s a treasure trove of history and has a lively atmosphere.

We had a wonderful stay in a very comfortable, beautifully renovated suite. The staff was friendly and professional. Breakfast was included, and was fine. Unfortunately, our restaurant experience was a disappointment. The Brussel sprouts were totally burnt. The borscht was essentially a vegetable soup - no beets to be found. The cabbage rolls were humongous and uninspiring. The setting was warm and cozy, but it takes more than just atmosphere to make a good restaurant. We definitely recommend for the accommodation, not the food.

We decided to try The Hume Hotel on our Anniversary celebrating trip to the Kootenays. We didn’t go wrong. This place is beautiful, clean, well kept and amenities are everything you could ask for. Without even asking, we were upgraded to a suite, and surprised with a welcome Anniversary sweets plate. The pub had excellent food, we also tried the outdoor beer garden area and the food was also top notch. Tonight we will be going to The Library for dinner, and if our first day was any indication, it too will be fantastic. Would highly recommend The Hume and will be back in the future.

It was a good trip for my disabled hubby and me. My hubby can walk a few steps and around the room, but uses a wheelchair a lot. Hume was very accommodating, and it allowed us to get out, have a very scenic drive from the Seattle area (stayed a night coming and going elsewhere, then stayed 3 nights at Hume). There was a small elevator, and I liked that there was a spa and restaurants in the hotel if hubby was not feeling up for going out again for dinner. (The Library and Breakfast restaurant was accessible, but the Pub, you had to go outside, around the corner, down an alley and enter in the back with a wheelchair- staff were supper helpful! It worked out so well for us in our unique situation. One day we took a walk on paved path at the waterfront park (pushing wheelchair was easy- park closest to the water under the bridge), and one day we went to the Hot Springs (was ok for handicapped). I recommended a few easy improvements to the handicapped shower and around the toilet that the staff seemed very happy to have so hopefully they will improve on this (hubby didn't actually take a shower in the lovely roll in shower because there were not grab bars at all in the front where you would stand. Also the toilet was a bit low, and only had a grab bar on the right (hubby has right side weakness). There are easy solutions for this. Otherwise the room was big enough and staff was very nice, helping me load and unload (handicapped entrance could be improved easily too (Auto opening door?). All being said I was so thrilled to come to this cute historic hotel and may be back!

Great hotel! Character! Charm! History! Location! Tastefully updated and cared for. Excellent place to stay! Would definitely recommend. Great dining choices with three different places to dine, each with their own character! The only crap situation is the parking, with crap city ticket dispensers, that are NOT user intuitive for overnight parking. Not bad enough to dock a star though! Enjoy your stay!

A group of us stayed there for a ski trip. It is a very nice hotel. I would recommend getting a suite as some of the rooms are on the small side. The price of the suites is very reasonable. The hotel is charming and the people who work there are very nice. The food at lunch in the beautiful library room is exceptional and the bartendress is talented and very friendly. We saw a band, The Sloans at a venue in the hotel one night and the rest of the hotel was so soundproofed that our friends who went to bed early didn't hear it. Breakfast is excellent as well.

Hotel makes you sign a waiver saying the room could be noisy, but this in no way prepares you for it. The noise from the bar below is like trying to sleep in a night club, & the noise from above (from 5:30am) is like a construction site. Never again

The staff was great. The room was beautiful (Minnie’s room) and the restaurant food delicious. Though it’s a historic hotel, the rooms have been beautifully updated and we’re super clean. We had to leave a day early because of a coming snowstorm and refunded us for the night we couldn’t stay. Hope to be back!
