If you like old buildings with crooked floors, lots of character, and rooms without TVs, as we do, the Marathon will be right up your alley. Great staff, lots of common space. I'm a writer and this place was great for me.

I was the tour coordinator for a group of 21 lighthouse enthusiasts that stayed here for 3 nights at the end of the season in late September. You couldn't ask for better hospitality! The group check-in was extremely easy, they helped us get luggage to everyone's rooms, the meals we had were delicious and very generous - dinners and breakfasts...

We stayed at the Marathon for 1 night in August. The location is great - just off the ferry in North Head. The rooms had lots of character - just be prepared that is isn't super luxurious. Beds were comfortable and clean. Some noise in the annex at times due to creaky floors but the common rooms were handy (kitchen...

The staff were friendly and the room was spacious; however, we did find the room rather worn out. The carpet was quite dirty and stained. The beds, towels and other items in the room had also seen better days. With a bit of refreshing, it would be much more comfortable. It certainly wasn't a terrible stay, but definitely "average". On...

From the moment we arrived we were welcome by staff member Darlene. She handled our dinner reservation, our whale watching reservation & told us what essential to do before sunset! She also offered to make us lunch for our day on the water watching whales. In the morning, the same Darlene! made us a perfect breakfast. The room were large,...

We were back at the Marathon Inn after a break of more than 10 years. Not much has changed in this beautiful old hotel. The room was well appointed with piping hot water for a soak after a hike in the rain and fog. Sadden that evening meals were not available (had been last time we were here) so we...

Myself and a friend attended a harpists' retreat on Grand Manan, and while we didn't stay at the Marathon, we DID have our harp class there each day. Our harp classes were held in The Annex (itself an old Hotel that was built into the Marathon complex after the owner won it in a card game!) The Annex has a...

Conveniently located within walking distance of the ferry, surprisingly good food, helpful friendly staff. There are no phones in the rooms, and if you need to reach staff it can be challenging. This is an old hotel and, while quaint and somewhat charming, it's not filled with modern conveniences. WiFi is very unreliable. If that's something you need consistently, this...

We stayed 2 nights and 3 days on the island of Grand Manan at the charming historic Marathon Inn within walking distance to the ferry. This inn is composed of two buildings- the main building and the annex. In the main building is the restaurant which offers breakfast for reasonable prices. We tried the coffee, pancakes, oatmeal, and fruit cup...

We stayed at the Marathon Inn for a one night vacation to Grand Manan. It was exactly what we expected - decently priced, clean, and historic accommodation. Because it is historic, there are a lot of steep old stairs, so keep that in mind when you are booking! It is rustic and quirky, with slanting floors and all the things...
