I have stayed in several HDV's and the HDV Bristol did not disappoint. Friendly check in. Our room (Villa Maria) was very spacious and had a fantastic bathroom with huge walk in shower - great. Furniture in the room is slightly dated in appearance and in need of a refurb in the next year or two. Only slight negative point - the seals on the secondary glazing had perished and the room was quite noisy but I guess that's the price you pay for such a central city location.
A big thank you to housekeeping. the room was spotless and the extra procedures they have to do due to Covid were many, yet reassuring to the guest - your hard work is appreciated.
We had dinner in the restaurant. Great food and the supervisor was charming and interacted with us as individuals, we had a great evening.
Breakfast very efficient and quick and the full table service worked well.
Overall the HDV has adapted to the new restrictions but still treats the guests as individuals and it was a joy to stay there.

Arrived and parked up outside as there is a forecourt making it easy to unload our luggage. Popped into reception and Yolanda (I think that's her name) came out to the car and took our heavy suitcase in without question, after showing me where I could park for our 2 nights. It costs £20 a day though, parking in Bristol is expensive.
All the rooms are named after wines and spirits and we were allocated Renault, which I gather is a Brandy.
Lovely spacious room with a roll top bath and large wet room shower and Locattaine toiletries, brilliant.
There is a lift as this is a multi floor hotel in an old Sugar Wharehouse.
The location is within 10 minute stroll to the harbour area, which is buzzing with bars and restaurants.
Bristol is a hilly city with art, history and lots of areas of interest, plus parks and museums.
We dined in the hotel Bistro which was very tasty and had breakfast included the next morning and the breakfast offer and service is excellent.
Masks still worn and sanitisation evident.
There are a few lounge areas and as a resident you have free access to WiFi and online newspapers from multiple countries.
It was our first stay at a Hotel du Vin and we will now plan another Staycation trip where there are others to try out as I couldn't fault anything.

As we were restricted to visiting a hotel in our same Tier 2 area we chose a night here at the Hotel du Vin. We stayed it Taittinger Suite which was huge and very tastefully decorated. It has the largest hotel bathroom I’ve seen, you could almost hold a ball in it, with a luxurious bath and an enormous walk in shower with a power shower (I made use of both bath and shower).

The Kingsized bed was huge and very comfortable, and we also made use of the excellent room service.

Breakfast was excellent and the restaurant where breakfast is served is lovely.
Service under the circumstances was very good and the hotel takes its anti coronavirus measures very seriously.

A few very minor niggles. The bathroom could have done with more shelf space and it seems to switch off individual lamps in the bedroom area you have to switch them off at the mains. However, these are minor details. The hotel is excellent and if you’re looking for a tasteful, up market hotel with a little bit of the wow factor, you won’t be disappointed.

Stayed for one night as a couple and could not find anything at all to fault. Very professional check-in, the staff polite and friendly, as were everyone we came into contact with in the hotel. We decided to eat in the hotel for dinner and the food and service was top class.
They upgraded our room on arrival and the room was very large and comfortable, great large comfy bed with excellent pillows and the bathroom also very large with bath and enormous walk-in shower, with lovely toiletries, certainly one of the best hotels we have stayed in here in the UK, we would highly recommend this lovely tastefully decorated well run HOTEL, And we will definately return when visiting Bristol.
Thank you to everyone at The Hotel Du Vin.

First impressions of our de-luxe room were excellent: we had a lovely welcome from reception, staff were masked, we were away from the road and above a courtyard, there was a huge bed, double bath and enormous shower. Everything felt very luxurious. The plentiful hot water was very welcome, as were the large fluffy towels and robes. The bed was extremely comfortable (and really big); toiletries are L'Occitane and therefore lovely; the furniture is dark and totally in keeping with the place and just like other Hotel du Vins; there was a coffee machine and proper fridge, sadly neither of which we used. The lighting provided was perfect, with soft lamps and there were two chairs which made reading a pleasure. Breakfast was superb; the selection of yogurts, cereals etc. was great and our cooked breakfasts lovely. Staff in the dining room were very welcoming but did not crowd us at all and being able to fetch my own coffee was, to me, an advantage.

We do have some niggles: I ran a bath to ease soreness from our walking holiday without even putting the lights on (the bathroom doors are opaque glass which may not suit everyone) and only realised when I climbed in that there was a ring around it and a slightly grubby feeling; however, old baths can sometimes feel like this so I just accepted it. The room and bathroom appeared very clean but (apart from the ring in the bath) there was a spool of someone's hair on the bathroom floor. On closer inspection, some of the furniture and carpet seemed rather faded (though perhaps they are aiming for shabby chic?) and scratched.

The main problem for me was lack of sleep; shortly after we arrived we were a bit surprised to be able to hear rather a lot from another room (things they really wouldn't have wanted us to hear) and started to feel nervous about sleeping later. When we returned to the hotel after dining out, we didn't really notice any noise but it became apparent that sounds, either from the bar across the courtyard or from a private room could be a problem. It may not bother some but the hubbub did prevent me sleeping. This did stop around 11.30-12 but then the noise of people returning to rooms and settling down started; this seemed to be unusually clear (I could hear footsteps from above our room and even someone using the bathroom). When I mentioned this to reception, the member of staff was very helpful and offered to place a note on our profile to avoid a room by the bar when we stayed again.

There were so many things to enjoy here that we will try staying again but will ask for a different room. It is hard in Bristol to get away from road noise or big parties so maybe I will just take ear plugs. Asking for a room on the top floor may also be the answer.

Our stay here was wonderful, our room was absolutely amazing and the staff couldn’t do enough for you.
The bar manager was very friendly and such a pro at her job.
Under the circumstances this hotel made sure that all the correct COVID precautions in place and everything in our room was properly sanitised prior to our arrival.

When we visit Lo Don we stay at he Hdv. Always great. Xmas present for lunch in Bristol. We'll what can I say, a smile brought to my face, the first this miserable wet winter. The place was elegant not stuffy, very relaxed. The staff attentive, knowledgeable and offered great service, if I was a restraunter opening a restaurant near by, I would poach the lot
Food, well the food was excellent quality at a very reasonable price. The steak melted in your mouth. The cheese plate was the best I have ever had in any top restaurant. Why have we never been before?? Best kept secret but 100% will be going again. It is so good when it's done proper

We stayed for 2 nights and splashed out on an expensive room. We had the suite with the balcony and it was great to sit there with a glass of wine watching the world go by.
I liked the fact that all the staff wore face masks and were really helpful. One night we just fancied a takeaway and I asked for a couple of forks, the guy returned with warm plates, napkins and a full cutlery set.
The breakfast was lovely but I'm not sure it's worth £18 a head though.
We would definitely recommend staying here, the location was fantastic.

Everything we have come to expect from this location of Hotel Du Vin. All boxes ticked 😀

We booked a table for our wedding anniversary and asked for two glasses of Champagne before dinner, unfortunately the young waiter ,after placing my wife’s glass on the table accidentally spilt some of mine on my wife’s dress. Accidents happen! after that it’s all about service recovery - the young man was genuinely apologetic, brought me a refilled glass and duly cleaned the table.
Service recovered ! Red wine on a white dress may have been a different story though.

Our table was immaculately laid out with cutlery in a sealed napkin, the waiter attended immediately and took our wine order and also returned with some bread. The white wine arrived swiftly and was perfect temperature. The red wine was also delivered with a couple of red glasses. It may seem petty but the glasses were immaculate with no watermarks or fingerprints in sight. Not always the same at other locations of HDV.

Starters were spot on.
Main courses were also very nice apart from a chunk of my medium-rare ribeye that appeared to have missed the grill and was not cooked at all.Not the end of the world, but the waiter ( bearded young man, from memory he was from Poland - Excellent all night by the way) took the complaint on board and offered me a free dessert.

I settled for a single cheeseboard which was delicious.
We had a couple of after dinner drinks, again served at just the right time!

Table service needs to be spot on, not over fussy with constant interruptions and checking, nor too remote and unreliable where you find yourself desperately trying to catch someone’s eye chasing up that drinks order from 15 mins ago.
HDV Sugar House always gets it just right

Spot on!
Five stars every time!

Back soon!

We booked the Janneau Room and Christie's Library for a family event for 50 people. We were absolutely delighted with everything - the food, the room, the staff and the general atmosphere that the hotel creates. We wouldn't have changed a thing. We felt totally confident that we were in very capable hands, nothing was too much trouble. All the staff were very friendly, helpful and professional. This is the third time we have held family events at The Sugar House and we will definitely be back!
