Stayed here for two nights - reasonably priced and it was good to live music in the pub just downstairs. you get what you pay for and it was fine for us my only grip was we got there at 8.05 pm and asked about parking was told to park a few streets up the road, I asked about food...

Hi John B Thanks for your comments. I am sorry that you were not able to order food on your arrival, I can only assume it was a different member of staff who served you who was not aware of the situation and that you were staying with us. If so I am sure we would have been able to...

We booked accommodation here as we were seeing a gig - concert room and pub are spot on; accommodation was disappointing but adequate for the purpose - not a place to stay on holiday. No car parking nearby......

I booked a room for one night, a Saturday night, in May 2016. I arrived at 11 AM. I found that the Portland Arms is not a hotel; it is a pub, with 3 guest rooms upstairs. No one was there to check me in. After awhile, someone showed up who said, "I can't check you in, but I can...

Hi notbob_trip Sorry that your stay with us was not what you expected. As you say we are a pub with 3 budget letting rooms and do not profess to being a hotel. We are also widely known as being a live music venue, all of which is clearly stated in our description here on TripAdvisor and on our own...

Good atmosphere, very good beer, OK food and most importantly great music venue. Saw Teleman for 12 quid - bargain! Good sound and friendly staff. Has a the best sound and gig going experience in town. You really get to see up close at top musicians play. Tickets usually cost between £8 & £12 which is dam good value I...

I have only gone to The Portland Arms once and that was assuredly once too many. I went one Saturday evening on a 'Band' night... I ordered a drink with ice and a slice of lemon...it took 20 minutes to slice a lemon! I had sat down for 15 mins and then waited a further 5 mins at the bar...

Hi Maxwell_9 First, sorry that you feel you had a bad experience at the Portland on this occasion. I have spoken to the manager and people who worked that shift who remember this incident and yourself and that they tried to deal with your complaints at the time. Firstly, we try to have available fresh cut fruit for drinks at...

Stayed here for one night - reasonably priced and it was pretty awesome having the pub just downstairs. Absolutely nothing to write home about in terms of luxury - the beds are more or less just Ikea furniture and there's shared bathrooms but everything was clean, secure, and the staff was friendly. If you're staying over for a night or...

Tremendous pub for socialising and, critically, music! Lovely atmosphere in the venue with some big names and local bands. Stage is a nice height to make viewing good, but without ruining the intimacy of live music.

We went to the Portland Arms on Valentine's night for the Sunday session which is held in a separate part of the pub, It cost us £5 on the door, a bit basic and cold but we had a great evening. The compère and comedian for the evening was George Rigden and he was very good, made me laugh a...

It has greatly improved in the last year or so. We go here regularly for a mid week lunch, which with the buy one get second for £1 offer makes it good value for money. There's plenty of choice on the menu and the food is excellent. I can personally recommend the cajun chicken and the calamari - yum.

Came here for Sunday lunch and to watch the football. A lovely pub, a love the old style decor. However was freezing cold. It was a freezing cold day though, so not really an issue. Sunday lunch was lovely, my friend had roast beef and I had the roast pork. We both cleared our plates, was very delicious, although the...
