This was our second visit to this pub to have a meal after being recommended by friends from work. The staff were very welcoming and attentive to detail. They made us feel very welcome and whilst we were waiting for food he came over and spoke to us about the history of the pub which we found quite fascinating. He...

Great food, lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff, good service; the list of positive comments goes on! The history of this lovely pub is printed on the back of the menu, giving lots of information of the ghostly presences that reportedly inhabit the building.all adds to the dining experience. Will definitely come here again.

Were heading from London to Scotland by car when we got tired and came across this place. Guy was fabulous upon our arrivals at 7pm and even offered to carry our luggage up to the room. Room was super clean and neat with old English culture (wooden beams), but modern shower. Breakfast was fantastic and staff were amazing and accomodating...

Can't understand the rave reviews about the place. Rooms are ok, saw 3 of them, none particularly well maintained but clean and tidy. Location is spot on about half way down bridge street and certainly atmospheric as hundreds of years old.

Came into the pub on two separate occasions during our visit to Chester. The beer is well priced and is cheaper than many places in Chester. We visited again in an evening and were greeted by friendly staff and fabulous acoustic music. The pub is friendly and homely. Can't comment on the food as we didn't eat here but would...

Arrived in Chester for a few days and found this place while out looking for somewhere to eat. The place was very warm (literally) and welcoming. There was a large open fire and plenty of tables available as it was early evening. The staff were friendly and helpful and the meal was very tasty and well cooked. Would recommend to...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Kings Head is a traditional Inn built in 1622 on the west side of Lower Bridge Street. The Inn is a few minutes walk down hill from the Cross. The name refers to when King Charles stayed at the nearby Gamul House during the English Civil War. Since buying the business in March 2012 the current owners have spent thousands of pounds trying to bring the Ye Olde Kings Head back to it's former glory. In November 2012, the property had an extensive refurbishment throughout the bar and restaurant areas, every ensuite bathroom was also replaced and redecorated to a high standard. There are currently three completed refurbished rooms, by mid December 2013 they expect every bedroom to be finished. ... more   less
