what can I say positive about this place - well the bar area is lovely - went in for a couple of drinks last night - the manager is arrogant and rude. He has no people skills with the public - but can sit chatting and laughing with his 'friends'. Leaving staff to run the bar. He ignores customers -...

We stayed 2 nights whilst at a wedding and we're smitten. We both stay in hotels all over the world all the time for work. What a breath of fresh air to stay in such an individual and historic resting place. Our room was gorgeous, if quaint and certainly unique. Lovely lounge, excellent breakfast, very nice staff. It is what...

Firstly, apologies for the late review. I'll explain why below. I chose this hotel for myself, my husband and my father to stay in during our summer break in Cornwall. The reason I chose this hotel is because when I was younger (and when my mum and nan were alive) I used to spend at least 12 weeks a year...

If you want something modern and pristine don't come here. If you want a great experience full of character and history. If you want fun, good food and great beer. My husband has stayed at the Union Hotel on business several times, and knew it would be right up my street, so booked for a birthday present. It did, indeed, make my birthday. The hotel has bags of character and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room (number 24) was just perfect. The bed was probably one of...

Arrived to check into a single room. Third floor, fifty plus stairs and no lift. Energy saving light bulbs mean the room is always just gloomy. Bar manager was quite rude when our party asked about drinks for residents after the official bar closing time. No interest in looking after the residents at all. Vey poor. As a result none...

When we saw the reception we thought we were in a really low budget hotel. I was therefore surprised to see a beautiful lobby and a traditional but nicely decorated room. The staff was very friendly as well and the food delicious. The cook himself brought it to us and we had a nice chat and the bartender mixed our...

We called in to the Nelson Bar for drinks one evening while on holiday. Small choice of real ale, beautifully kept. On seeing the evening menu we returned the next night, seven in all. The quality of the food was excellent (I had pan fried trout with new potatoes and a nice crisp salad), everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal, and...

Just back from a one night stay at the Union Hotel in Penzance, and we were completely smitten by the place and the staff, especially Howie. From the front the place is very low-key, but behind the rather plain facade and slightly scruffy lobby is a gorgeous old hotel which is full of character and steeped in history (not least...
