We booked a 3 night stay for September 2021. A month before our arrival, I called to book a table for our stay. I received no reply and there was no facility to leave a message. I tried again several times with the same result. I sent an email which was never answered. On arrival, we were allocated The Padstow room. This room is tiny-no room to leave a case on the floor, for example. It has a small balcony but this is needed to store luggage that ought to be in the room. The "ensuite" is tiny too, carved out of the main room. It is so small (and being in the centre of the Inn without an outside wall) that it requires a chemical WC rather than a conventional flush toilet. This is extremely noisy and prone to flush automatically in the middle of the night, waking up the occupants. This room cost £230pn which is not cheap, even for Port Isaac. We asked to change rooms but were told the Inn was full although we did change on the third night. When we checked in, the manager swiped my credit card and took the remaining 2 nights room cost (we paid a deposit equal to the first night fee). On checking out, we were charged the same 2 nights again. When I questioned this, I was told that the £460 had not been taken earlier. I checked my credit card account when I got home and found that we had paid £460 twice. I tried phoning the Inn to get a refund with the same non- result as before. I emailed, again without reply. I wrote a letter to the group on 28 September, demanding a refund of £460 and also redress for the very miserable 2 nights we had spent in the Padstow room. My letter was not replied to. In desperation, I wrote a 7 day letter before action and sent it to the registered office of the owning company. Eventually, I received a very short email saying that I would be refunded the £460 (received) but offering no explanation or apology for the room. I replied asking for that explanation. In the 3 intervening months, no response has been made. Stargazy assumes that I will "go away" and they don't need to respond. I am really annoyed with the total lack of communication and arrogance displayed. In fairness, the food we ate was excellent and service friendly and helpful. This is the only reason I have rated the Inn with 2 out of 5. The manager tried his best but bound to fail given the chaos of the administration. I would never stay at this hotel or any other in the group.

My daughter booked a nights stay back in September 2021 for myself and my wife to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary together with dinner at Outlaws Fish Kitchen on the night of the 20.11.21. On the 19.11.21 the hotel rang to say our reservation had been cancelled and the hotel was closing for the winter. (The Stagazy is a short walk from Outlaws). The obvious question is, as Stargazy knew who’d booked to stay why we didn’t get notice earlier. BAD MANAGEMENT. After complaining bitterly my daughter was able to book us into believe it or not into Stargazy’s ‘sister’ hotel in Port Gaverne. Which is in the next bay and a good 20 minute walk to Outlaws. No taxis available so Manager at the Gaverne Hotel took us and picked us up. A well planned weekend ruined by an incompetent Manager/owner at Stargazy.

Beware! We booked Stargazy for last November, for our wedding anniversary, and prepaid for a deal which cost £800, but obviously COVID prevented us visiting but did they contact us? Did they heck! We had to chase and chase, but eventually they answered and moved our booking to this year, 4 nights commencing 17 November, again for our anniversary. But when I contacted them about booking tables for dinner, literally just a week before we were due to turn up at their door, do you know what they told me!? ‘I’m afraid we are now closed for the winter, I can move your booking to our sister hotel if you like’! No apology! So, if I hadn’t been in touch, we’d have turned up to literally no room at the inn. I replied asking for an immediate refund. Did they respond - what do you think? So I rang the sister hotel, spoke to a chap who wouldn’t even supply his surname (why!?!) who was incredibly blasé and dismissive, and told me of course all Stargazy bookings would have been transferred automatically to them! Why of course? And why without consulting the guests concerned? How would those guests know!?! I did at least get a relatively prompt refund a couple of days after my call, but there was no proper apology, no acceptance that they hadn’t let me, or potentially other guests know, that we’re not bloody mind readers or that turning up to a closed hotel, several hundred miles from our home, would have been distressing and stressful to say the least, or that we have the right to choose the hotel we stay in and if that’s not available we should have an upfront offer of a refund. Appalling. No offer of compensation either. Avoid, avoid, avoid - if this is how they operate, they don’t actually deserve to open this hotel ever again!

This restaurant was exceptionally good. The host & the waitress were very amicable, energetic & friendly. We had an amazing dining experience here when we came on October! Everything was perfect from start to finish. Credit to the staff and the chefs. We are group of 5x with 2x dogs & no reservation so thank you for having us.

Gorgeous location, great staff and very well looked after. Wonderful food - superb chef (would go back purely to eat there). We had a really great few days. Room was lovely, bed too soft and quite warm. Nice to have a good coffee machine in the room. Car park is very small but we got parked and management move your car for you. Really enjoyed our few days BUT…..upon leaving we were told that we were in credit but that credit has still not been passed back to us some two months later and despite chasing from us and the booking agent. No response at all. So the fact that they owe us money forced me to give the lowest score - I really don’t want to do this and had hoped this would be sorted by now but it isn’t and it’s such a disappointment (to say the least). Liked everything about our stay but this just isn’t acceptable.

Let’s start with the negatives. We also had trouble trying to phone the Stargazy InnI. If you can’t get through to the S.I., phone the Port Gaverne Hotel as the same person deals with bookings for both places. Best to book online and avoid the hassle. Not much information on the inn’s website nor in the guest information book in our room. First thing to bear in mind is that this is not a hotel, it’s a five-star inn – which means, basically, that it’s a pub with rooms and should be judged in those terms. The inn is run in an informal way. Check-in was quick and minimal, service was friendly and eager to oblige. The parking is a great bonus for Port Isaac. The terrace at the front of the inn with sofas, tables and parasols has a fine view out to sea and on a clear day all the way to Tintagel Castle. We stayed for three nights in the two -bedroom suite. Very comfortable, nicely decorated rooms with ample storage and good bathroom with bathrobes and Molton Brown toiletries. Beds were rather soft. Housekeeping was very good: rooms were cleaned daily and coffee/tea stocks replenished. Good Nespresso machine with capsules. Easy to get more stocks from the bar if needed, along with fresh milk. Breakfast was okay but they could perhaps simplify it by offering fresh pastries, fruit and yoghurt instead of more time-consuming cooked breakfast options. We really enjoyed our stay – it’s about getting expectations right.

Booked a room here with booking.com with 100% cancellation refund. Within an hour of the booking Stargazy had taken full payment (£300), we then found out that their restaurant was closed the night we were staying so decided not to go and cancelled. That was 4 months ago, and I am still waiting for a refund Stargazy did not anwser any of my phone calls or emails, so contacted booking.com, they are no better having agreed I should get a full refund they have spent 3 months telling lies and excuses why they have not paid, disgusting.

After having really good reviews for the Stargazy in Port Isaac and having never been to Cornwall before and always wanted to stay in Port Isaac we booked for 3 people to stay at the Stargazy Inn. We paid for bed, breakfast and evening dinner. This hotel described as 5* luxury doesnt even come as a 1* so many things wrong with it we stayed in family 2 bed, lovely rooms but no where to sit or place things. Bathroom shower and sink scalding hot or freezing cold, no happy medium, with a high step to the shower and then another step over to the bath with no handrail and a sloping floor which at times made you feel a bit sick as you werent on a level. Check in was short and sharp cannot check in till 3pm!! when it was nearly 3pm anyway and we had travelled some 4 hours from Bristol that day. There was no reception and it was a case of any staff passing you had to grab in the bar area with laptops and there staffs stuff around. They couldnt be bothered with us and dont make you feel welcome or make you feel like you should be staying there. Paid nearly £2,500 for 6 night stay. When we enquired about dinner the Manager said we should have reserved times for dining not obliging at all. Well we would have reserved but wasnt told, communication nil, every time we tried to ring the hotel months before we stayed to ask about car parking etc no answer!! Even emailing short and sharp! The only place that was obliging was the sister hotel Port Gaverne down the road, answered the phone and could reserve dinner there. Manager said we are fully booked in the restaurant but we will have to fit you in as you have paid!, yes paid in full up front! The times given for dinner were unrealistic what he gave us either 4pm when normally you are out and about and then come back to get ready! or quarter to nine at night! Really? This was unacceptable, so we had a word with another member of staff who amazingly managed to fit us in at 615pm for dinner and no sign of other guests eating!! but yet fully booked! As for the evening meal this never changed this was the same choice every night, from about 2 or 3 starters, mains and desserts and actually preferred on the 2 nights we had food at Port Gaverne food. as for Pilchards Cafe didnt really get to have the food due to fire! Not obliging breakfast breakfast no cereal - pastries - fruit! Breakfast consists of cooked breakast!, and the cooked breakfast is nothing to write home about. Cannot understand why people have said breakfast is lovely! Toast is not toast its artisan bread with a tiny butter and very tight with it with a brown colour butter later told its marmite butter! Bacon was so hard and overdone couldnt even cut it, flat mushroom cold, black pudding hard. Asked for cereal got laughed at! Yet the sister hotel Port Gaverne sister hotel seems to do a lovely breakfast including crossaints! that would be nice to have. Cups dirty. Couldnt wait to get back home to some proper bread and toast, bacon and mushrooms and actually have some cereal and crossaints! Sundays and Mondays closed if its starred hotel you do not close two days a week. The night we were offered to have a meal at Pilchards Cafe another sister cafe down the road there was a fire. We were told if you go back upto the Stargazy they will give you a dessert, we got a dessert each and charged us £17 for 2!. Also charged for other drinks never had and trying to sort this out when checking out was a task in itself! All Manager could say is well the owner should get more staff in laughing at the fact had a fire! Far better food and friendliness at the sister hotel Port Gaverne. Manager down there was much more obliging. Not a very helpful Manager at all dont know how he got the job. All he seems to be interested in is serving his friends first before guests and making a fuss then while we were in our bathroom he is in the kitchen chatting away! As for cleaning the rooms this was done with a quick feather duster not even the bed was made properly or the coffee and toiletries topped up. Lots of small flies in the room. We decided to have a drink outside one afternoon the service was terrible one couple had been waiting that long for a beer and wine they upped and left and then the staff wondered where they had gone! How does this hotel get a 5*? All we can say is since we booked the staff has had a change around including the chef and manager.

We stayed for 2 nights & couldn’t have been happier. Our king double with balcony was lovely, cosy & spotless, with views to die for. Unfortunately the lack of staff meant we couldn’t eat our Sunday evening meal there but the wonderful Rebecca booked us into their sister hotel in Port Gaverne. Great to have private parking, a terrace bar for watching the world go by & that view. Breakfast was delicious & the team was all round excellent. It may not be the cheapest of hotels but it’s worth it.

From what we have been told it is doubtful the owner will take any notice of a poor review as all he is interested in is making money not the satisfaction of his clients. We had great hopes for our stay in this hotel as it was marketed as a luxury hotel. Unfortunately our expectations were not met. It didn’t feel like a hotel at all as there was no service during the day, no lounge to sit and relax in and we felt we had to be out all day as there was no where else to go but our rooms. These rooms were not the luxury we expected. Yes our sea view room had a lovely view and a balcony but the room was too small to spend any time in. There was only one chair directly under the tv. If you wanted to watch tv you had to lie in the bed which for me was very uncomfortable. There was no table to put anything on, just a small chest of drawers used for refreshments. The bed was comfy but the housekeeping poor. The bed was never properly made - just pulled together and the bins were not emptied and no hoovering done even though we requested this as we had a rather hairy dog. We had a psycho tv which switched itself in at anytime day or night. It woke us up several times but although reported on our first day it was never fixed. My husband had to stand on a chair to switch it completely off. The bathroom was more style over substance. It looked lovely but the shower was totally unworkable and had to be forced on and off by my husband. Even though we reported this on our first day, four days later it was still not fixed. The towel rail was cheap and fell apart and totally insufficient so the towels remained wet. The toilet seat cheap plastic with a lid that would have snapped if you closed it. The staff were lovely , welcoming and very dog friendly but the manager seems very frustrated by the owner who didn’t respond to requests for repairs. The Stargazy’s only saving grace was the food which was delicious although very expensive. The menu only had four mains and did not change during our stay. If we had stayed there for dinner every night we would have had very repetitive meals. Sorry Stargazy but you need to meet the needs of your guests not the ego of the owner.
