Had booked into this hotel from 25-09-23 - 29-09-23 but when we went at 2pm the hotel was locked up with a security notice on the door. There annexe was unavailable with mattress’s up against walls and windows so we assumed (wrongly) that this hotel was closed as when looking at main building it looked very very rundown with curtains hanging off rails and damp patches on them. Then they had the audacity to charge us £71.70 for not booking in. I would think twice about staying here.

Well, hmm, erm, probably would of had a better stay in a tent tbh! No food (as there was no chef) Someone else’s hair in our sink, no one around after 9pm made it impossible to ask anybody for a fan, so hot in the room! Lots of parking, guessing it’s because no one comes here. I would stay away from this place. It’s almost ready for the bin. Dated. Reminds me of ‘The Shining’ hotel in the film, made in 1980. Will never come back. I won’t even look at it if I pass it. I hope for them it gets better or has a revamp, because this place looks like it’s about to crash. 2 days we have to stay here. Help

I don’t wish to be mean but this place should be a goldmine, but it’s not. Attended a work event here, three pump beers/ciders on tap, cider was off. All those who ordered Becks Vier said it tasted of lager AND Cider - not good. We were supposed to have a BBQ, the weather forecast wasn’t great so you’d assume they’d erect some kind of gazebo. Nope. The chef looked outside when it was p*sling down and declared, “that’s not happening” The food was served from the kitchen, sausages were ok, burgers were savagely undercooked and I confess I steered clear of the anaemic chicken! Now one might think if a local business with 50+ employees was attending an event they’d make an effort. It seems not. My previous visit here was 35 years ago. I’m sad to say I hope it’s another 35 years before I have to go back.

Booked two nights to attend Funeral . Worst hotel we have ever stayed in. Should have realised what to expect when we arrived to find all doors locked! No sign of any human activity. Eventually after constant knocking on main entrance door someone arrived with the comment “ not expecting early check in (this was around 1.00pm) on my own so locked door! But we were expected having Pre-booked ! On checking in we were advised of virtually no facilities available. dining room and bar closed , no cleaning of rooms etc. etc. when I commented on apparent lack of staff, was told by receptionist (?) she was the only staff on duty and why would she want anyone else ? Now to the room, well it was pleasantly roomy and clean, but that’s it. Bed was like sleeping on concrete (actually didn’t get any sleep). Peeling wallpaper , mishmass decor/curtains/carpet. Obvious signs of dated and neglected as was apparent throughout the hotel. Room was cold since no heating on. Garden area (which was extensive) again neglected and uncared for. I could go on but just writing this is winding me up! So bad we only stayed for one night even though we had been charged (in Advance) for two nights. When we attempted to register our concerns and check out, we were told i believe by a security guard?, No staff member available , just to throw your room key in the bowl on the reception desk. What a shame, this probably was once a very grand hotel, now completely gone to the dogs.

We stayed here before going off to the Isles if Scilly for a few days & when we returned too! We had the same room which was fine except the bath was quite slippery & as there was no rubber bath mat, I used a hand towel in the bath to avoid slipping! The decor is rather dated but in the whole, clean & comfortable. The downside which we thought was really bad, was the fact that I was charged the same price for a small bowl of custard as my partner’s sticky toffee pudding! ( which was served with custard) A cost of over £5.00 for a small bowl of custard was exorbitant! Moral of this story is - ask the price before asking for anything ‘off piste’!!

Warm Welcome to our variable group over 3 nights, several of whom were involved in events at Exeter Cathedral . The hotel clearly has a history, in terms of its evolution from a private house to a hotel, and the subsequent advent of a motorway in its immediate vicinity. Set in beautiful surroundings with spacious grounds there is a feeling of yesteryear when the house became a hotel. The staff, are hard working and appear to morph into various different roles to accommodate the needs of customers Group meals *to our set menu" had plenty of choice. Service was personalised and friendly. Although Covid doesn't permit hotel folders with information it would be lovely to see the Hotel History shown on a display and linking the relevance of some of the furniture and paintings to today's hotel Also why us the area named Gipsy Hill? Thank you to the staff

Just 4 minutes away from junction 28 of the M5 This hotel stands in it own grounds albeit you have to drive through a business park to get to it. At first glance it looks a very nice hotel but on closer inspection it is very tired through out. The rooms are spacious and clean and bathrooms are modern. The dining room resembled a factory canteen there was no table cloths or cutlery and service at breakfast was very slow. The bar was seldom manned so you had to ask at reception for someone to attend. Could not fault the staff in anyway they were cheerful and helpful at all times

A month ago we had the absolute displeasure of staying at The Gipsy Hill Hotel in Exeter. I'd like to help out anyone thinking of staying. DON'T It's dirty, worn out and disgusting. When a few families stayed (friends of ours stayed too) and all had the same complaints and pictures to prove it, you'd think the management team would take it seriously. Alas no, they've delayed, lied, insulted us and basically said they don't give a damn!! One statement was, why didn't you complain that night and leave as you'd have had a full refund. I explained, we did complain but it was 9pm and we had a 10 year old. Are we expected to drive (after having a couple of wines) around to findalternative accommodation just so you don't have to deal with the issues 🤷‍♀️ Spread the word as places like that don't deserve customers when so many places are doing their best to stay afloat.

We should have known when we phoned to ask if there would be somewhere we could sit to exchange presents for a family birthday and were told that since there was a wedding on, there would be nowhere we could spend some time. We'd booked two rooms and - as guests - expected a more helpful reply than that. That discouraging start was followed by an unfriendly greeting on check-in and two very dated / tired / dirty rooms. (By dirty I mean, stained carpets, mouldy shower tiles, etc...). Grounds should be a feature .... but the grass hadn't even been cut. Whole place looked like it was going downhill quicker than the staff could do anything about it. Breakfast was average at best. Write-ups described this place as a "hidden gem" ..... I'm afraid not.!

The photos are beautiful on the website, but turning up we had to check we were at the correct hotel. Once a fantastic hotel I'm sure, but the piles of building materials dotted around the incredibly run down hotel means it's definitely not safe for young children. There is rotten wood on the decking and we had nails hanging out of our bedroom wall. Scaffolding and piles of wood, pipes and things just strewn around. When checking in, we were thrust a menu to choose instantly our dinner before putting down our bags and when asking why our rooms weren't together as we were told, the receptionist said 'well, at least you have a bed for the night' and that they have two booking systems so can't actually put rooms together because it's too complicated. After our impersonal check in, we had to locate our room alone, in the building opposite the car park (there are two) The view of the car park from our window concluded with a mini van parked in its allocated spot and we were greeted with some really long dark hair across the duvet. The room was clean at first glance. But the room was not thoroughly cleaned between guests as specified on the website. We found previous guests rubbish, carpet was dirty and the shower head was disgusting, a layer of thick black something staring down at me. Having dinner at the hotel was a regret. Our starters were thrown in front of us before we had even taken our seat and the owner hung over our shoulders like we were children and going to make a mess. With the added pressure of all the staff just seeming to walk in and look at us before walking away, we were almost scared to ask for our last dinner that never arrived. Final dinner turned up, after we had all finished. Again, a group of adults hesitantly had to ask for the money back for the almost no show dinner was returned with a bad attitude but we did get that meal taken off. Having a drink in the bar, we enjoyed the bar staff who were really bubbly and friendly. Cannot fault them at all. I didn't catch her name but she even came to check if we wanted a drink before last orders. However, the bar toilet did not provide soap. Two posters on the mirror about washing your hands during Covid. I went to go to ask for soap, the receptionist told me they were probably stolen and she will put more in there. After an hour, only when the receptionist needed the toilet, did the soap arrive... Then of course, no longer there the next day and too scared to ask the receptionist who might just bite your head off. Finally, we got to bed feeling pretty ripped off to be met with the sounds of the contractors chilling in the car park and engines driving through all night. The other people with us did have a comfortable bed, but sadly we didn't. But after just one day of our trip the bed was the least of our worries. Would not recommend for the price AT ALL. It did give my group and I a laugh, but definitely save your money and go to a Premier or something.
