The first bad thing was the receptionist, she was rude and very unwelcoming, we knew we may have to pay for parking , but the manner it was dealt with, was short sharp an totally unnecessary and £40 for 4 nights was I feel extreme. the room although a standard family room was shabby , the bath had chips out of it. The food left alot to be desired, for £27.95 each it was crap . However the Alberts bar is worth a visit not just for a drink but for food as well, it cost less then the meal in the restaurant. My son and I found the games adequate, although you did have to look for the staff, they seemed more interested with there mobile phones then attending to the guest needs, and this only the first couple of days .

Hi Michael, We are truly sorry that your break didn't start off as we would both hope. Booking with us directly means you can benefit from free on-site parking as one of several perks. This incentive to book directly helps to mitigate against almost 20% commission from the third party sites which helps local businesses such as ourselves to navigate rising costs. For anybody reading who wants to know more about this, search TLH Leisure Resort Parking for more information on our website. We are glad to read that you enjoyed Alberts Bar and we will pass on your other feedback to the management team for discussion. At TLH Leisure Resort we have the unique offering of a bedroom, friendly service, several onsite eateries/bars, inhouse entertainment, Aztec themed pool, gym and spa facilities, close proximity to the seafront and free parking with direct bookings. We truly hope this is reflective of good value for money and that the daily parking charges did not overshadow all of the great things we have to offer here. We encourage all guests to explore the TLH Leisure Resort website to see all that we have to offer, including the perks of booking direct. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back again in the future. Warm regards.

I have just stayed here for the weekend with my husband on a spa break. The first room we were given was right next to the door to the corridor and could hear the door closing so asked for a different room which the reception staff managed to sort out after a bit of a wait. Second room was further along the corridor but over looked the really busy road and as the room was always very hot, we had to open the window making it very noisy. The TV didn't work and a hotel employee came ton our room but weren’t sure how to fix it as it was one of the older TV’s. Towels were really quite small and robes for spa use felt like they were children's size. We asked at reception for larger ones but were told they are all one size, however staff at the spa told us that the reception staff say that as they can’t be bothered to check and happily gave us bigger sizes. Evening meals were ok, I appreciate they are catering for lots of people but more choice would’ve been nice. I have to agree with other reviews the mattress and pillows are really uncomfortable and the mattress springs could be felt and heard with every movement. These definitely need upgrading. This hotel does need a bit of renovating in some areas but it’s ok. The fire and ice experience was good but could be longer and the 30 minute massage was good. Friday nights entertainer wasn’t great but Saturday nights female entertainer was incredible. I don’t think I would stay here again as there are better hotels offering spa breaks for the same price.

Hi Shellyob, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review with us. We are sorry to read both bedrooms were too noisy for your liking, but we are pleased to read that we could accommodate you request to move bedrooms. Your comments regarding robes and the mattress have been passed to the associated departments. I am sure this would have been a miscommunication regarding the robes as we have such friendly and helpful teams as the majority of feedback reports. It's great to read you enjoyed the Aztec Spa Fire & Ice experience and your massage in the Spa. We hope these positive experiences outweighed any shortfall you may have felt you experienced. We truly believe that we offer a value for money experience when you consider the inclusion of a bedroom, friendly service, several onsite eateries/bars, inhouse entertainment, unique pool, gym and spa facilities, close proximity to the seafront and free parking with direct bookings to name a few things. Warm regards.

My wife, grand daughter and I have just spent the weekend with our church at this hotel. The accommodation is excellent, as are the facilities. Our only complaint is about the service in the restaurant! Ben, the maître d', was certainly tested by our group. I think he and his very young staff did a good job, considering how fussy and finicky our group are!! There were delays in ordering food, there were no teaspoons anywhere [ever! ] . The young staff need training/reminding to keep an eye on replenishing items, before they run out! [Decaff coffee and normal teabags, milk, eggs on the servery, plates on the servery and teaspoons]. Please note this is not really a complaint, as our table seemed to be better off than others. Thank you for all you did for us.

We live in Torquay and visited the Carlton Hotel to dine with my sister-in-law who was staying there on holiday from Bexhill on Sea. The food was adequate and the staff were attentive and helpful. The meal however was expensive compared with other restaurants nearby. I do not normally write reviews for hotels or restaurants, good or bad, however, on this occasion there was a very expensive sting in the tail. I have now received a penalty charge of £100 for parking in the hotel car park. The signage indicating the parking charges when I visited were of poor quality and not illuminated and I did not see them. I have appealed this charge, but on reading the conditions for a successful appeal I will not be successful. On contacting the hotel it seems they have leased or have made other such arrangements with a national car parking organisation to manage their car parks. This might make sense from a financial point of view for the first year or two, but will deter customers from visiting The Carlton Hotel or the other hotels within the TLH Hotels Group in the future. Potential customers will easily find better value hotels in Torbay that don’t treat their customers as gullible cash cows.

Hi Stephen, Firstly, we are glad to read you felt looked after by the team at the TLH Carlton Hotel and found the food to your liking. We are sorry to read that you didn't pay to park when visiting us and have received a fine as a result. The parking signage is far from hidden with several large signs in each car park at the entry points and throughout. We have been very clear on introducing parking charges almost a year ago, which has been well communicated via our website and social media pages too. It is my understanding that the fine is reduced by 40% if paid within 14 days. Understandably this is annoying, however hopefully this is better than leaving it longer and having to pay £100. TLH Leisure Resort has a great record of returning customers and locals alike. TLH Leisure Resort does not receive the money from fines issued by the car park management company and so your exit line is not reflective of how we treat our guests and local customers. For anybody reading this review, please search the TLH Leisure Resort - Parking at Our Hotels page for further information. Warm regards.

We have been coming to the TLH resort for last 6 years in November time which has now become our family tradition and as our family grows so does this weekend become even more important. This is a great place for all ages and especially a big group as plenty to do if you don't want to leave complex and you dont have to do everything together but still be in reaching distance. ( great for me due to mobility issues so easier to get around) we have stayed in the Derwent and carlton but prefer the carlton as the dinning experience feels a lot calmer. Staff were great and service was spot as nothing was to much trouble. We have already booked up again for next year and would recommend to anyone young and old. It's how you want to make your experience and the staff help with it . Just be kind as life is tuff enough.

Overall this trip was amazing, my sister booked this for me as a Christmas present, it was an overnight stay, spa fire & ice experience & Afternoon tea, we found it and booked in with ease, twin room was lovely, however our experience at the Aztec bistro for afternoon tea was a disaster, I have a severe egg allergy & my sister had exchanged several e mails with the bistro manager, who assured us that vegan scones would be available as an alternative with no problem. On arrival at the allotted time we were met with teenage staff who actively ignored us for at least 10 minutes with 1 young man serving, 1 young lady behind the bar found the time to finish her own drink and empty the bin while walking past us standing there, when it arrived the afternoon tea looked sadly lacking, on the bottom plate was 3 tiny finger sandwiches, the middle plate was a chocolate brownie which 'may contain egg' so I cant eat it, the top plate was a slice of vanilla cheesecake which I cant even explain how awful it looked!! It wasn't even dressed up to look edible, I asked about the vegan scones as promised, 10 minutes later I was told sorry we cant provide those for you today, is that ok!!! Not really!!!

Hi Katherine, Thanks for taking the time to share your experience and leave us with a good rating. Firstly, we are so pleased that the majority of your trip with us was great. It's brilliant to read that you enjoyed the Aztec Spa Fire & Ice experience and the bedroom in the hotel too. We are truly sorry that your visit to the Aztec Bistro wasn't what we would both hope it to be and understand the frustration. We will discuss the importance of allergens, alternative options and presentation with the team. Apologies again for any shortfall. We do hope to welcome you back in the near future. Warm regards.

'Oh my god I am so sorry' was all the staff could repeatedly say. The complex is grubby & understaffed by kids. Our cream tea came without drinks and had soft microwaved scones, served in pudding bowls, as the dishwasher had broken. The finger sandwiches were best described as podgy and stogey. Our drinks arrived a half an hour after the food. As a wowcher customer we were shoved in a dark corner on formica tables in the Aztec Lounge. The area stank of chlorine from the indoor pool. Half way through someone let the fire alarm off so we spent 20 mins sat in the cold outside. Our first room was functionable but the telly didn't work so we were moved to a 'better' room, along with another apology. The following morning we were told to wait to be seated for breakfast as it could get busy. I saw there were only a couple of others booked in on the list so we went in and helped ourselves to a basic buffet. About 15mins into our meal the meet and greet lad turned up. Basically it seemed as if he was doing it all him self. The hotel is one of several ramshsckle hotels linked together on a large site and to find your individuel hotel is a bit of a challange! We even got charged £10 to park!!

Hi Hils, We are disappointed to read that your recent stay wasn't what we would both hope it to be, however do not share your sentiment that TLH Leisure Resort is understaffed, grubby or ramshackle. Hopefully the 4 out of 5 stars on Google and TripAdvisor reflect this too as what is largely a positive experience for the majority of people. We really do encourage our guests to just ask if there is something we can do to help. For example, if you don't like the area where you have been seated, please just say so and we can find somewhere that suits you. I'm not sure what 'As a wowcher customer' means as this would in no way impact how you are treated and that our team would simply view you as a guest. We apologise that the fire alarm sounded during your time with us. These thing happen and we have to follow procedure when they do. A perk of booking directly is that the parking is free - please check out out website for more details! Thanks.
