We stayed here (again) for the 3 day New Year celebration. This was our 12th stay at the Cary Arms. Amazing from start to finish yet again. Jack and the team were just amazing, food gorgeous and of course, the place and views spectacular. A****. It rained for 2 of the days so we made the most of the gorgeous facilities. Sat in the spa. Relaxed in the lounge and enjoyed chatting to the staff and watching the weather change hour by hour with just the best views. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Jack has built a great team and did the Arms proud for New Year. Thanks to everyone at the Cary Arms for making New Year so special.
We rented Bay Cottage with friends for the Christmas HouseParty. From the moment we arrived ( early) nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Our car was unpacked and our luggage put in the cottage. This was exceptionally well equipped and the goodies provided for us were amazing. As my husband and I are disabled we needed lifts up and down the hill and there was never a time when a cheerful driver did not arrive to load us in and help us out at the bottom. The staff, without exception are not only thoroughly professional, but always smiling and happy to help. There is a wonderful family atmosphere which makes for a truly relaxing break. Thank you all for the humour and a ter we had. The food? It has been mentioned before and I endorse every five star review. Perfectly cooked, nicely presented and delicious. Would we come again? Let’s just say we booked next Christmas even before we checked out…
We are on our way home from a wonderful 3 night stay and loved every minute of the Cary Arms. We stayed in a luxury double (Rear Admiral) which had an amazing sea view and lovely amenities. We loved the inn/restaurant, eating there every night and made the most of the residents lounge and mini pool table area. The sea view spa with hydropool and sauna was perfect to relax in after a coastal path walk. Above all else, the staff were amazing - every single person was genuine, welcoming and we felt constantly "looked after" as a result.
We found this hotel by chance in the summer when we called in for a drink. We were so impressed by the location, we enquired about staying for my birthday weekend in November. We were shown two available dog friendly rooms, chose and then reserved the Rear Admiral. We have had a fantastic 2 night stay, helped by lovely weather for the time of year, meaning we could sit out on our little terrace to enjoy the spectacular view with a coffee or complimentary sloe gin! It might lack some privacy in the summer as it overlooks the outside tables for residents, but was quiet at this time despite the hotel being full. On arrival down the well documented steep lane, we were greeted immediately and the car parked for us. In the well appointed room, there was chilled Prosecco for my birthday and a doggy welcome pack. All linen, towels, robes and toiletries were great. Nice touches like Cary Arms rock on the pillows and a Nespresso machine. Offered evening turn down but declined. Room serviced the next morning whilst we were at breakfast. All staff were excellent, helpful and friendly with time to chat and give advice. Our dog was treated like royalty and had a great time too! I used the spa on day one, having pre booked a 60 minute massage. I had the gorgeous spa to myself beforehand with stunning views over the sea from the hydro pool. Massage was excellent - certainly as good or better than many I’ve had at other spas. We dined in on one night and could take our dog with us - we never had to leave her in the room. It was classy and cosy in the restaurant with the log burner going. We were recommended excellent local Shapham wine - a good choice. Food well presented and enjoyable. A real gem is the residents’ lounge which is very stylish and also cosy. Plenty of games available or you could just relax by the fire. I can imagine this room would be perfect to while away an afternoon in bad weather. As it was, we were blessed and enjoyed a scenic walk on the SW Coastal Path towards Torquay on the Saturday. We have already booked for the same weekend next year.…
Stayed here for a little weekend get away and it was just so perfect, so lovely and charming and we loved it. It’s set right on the edge of the sea, with stunning views from every window. We booked one of two suites which open via a wrap around deck, right onto the lapping waves of the sea. The suite was modern, very comfortable and had the most amazing private views out to the water beyond. Everything in the room was lovely and the whole place was just relaxing and made us feel very special. Waking in the morning with the bifold doors open wide and watching and listening to the sea, was the perfect way to wake. The old part of the inn is also just lovely, both a perfect blend of traditional and modern and a pleasure to be in. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast in the conservatory and even the rain couldn’t dampen the lovely setting. I have to also give special mention to all the staff, from the valet parker and the lovely receptionists, to the bar staff and the ladies who served us lunch, they were all so friendly and welcoming they made us feel very special. It’s not often you get such dedicated service, but here you get it all. I cannot recommend this little hidden gem enough, it’s perfect!…
Rude, unprofessional, unfriendly and snooty staff, particularly the female bar staff. We stopped for a lunchtime drink with friends, the first and last time we will be visiting The Cary Arms. Also, Whilst there a table of 8 seated nearby setback their entire meals.
I was expecting big things from the Cary Arms and I wasn't disappointed. On arrival we were greeted with a smile and told to leave our cars outside and they would be unloaded and parked for us. We stayed in Beach cottage with fantastic views and superb accomodation and lots of xtras we weren't expecting, especially the bottle of slow gin, proper coffee machine crisp , biscuits, cereals, and table football out the back to name but a few. Staff were very friendly, special mention goes to Dave, Lian, Richard. Thank you for a fab 3 days. There was one small thing that could be improved, but I mentioned that to Harry and he said he would pass it on. Again Thank you. See you all again in April.
On a tour of Devon some friends recommended this place at the end of Babbacombe beach. What they did tell us was how steep the walk is down and up 🤣. The place is lovely we used it just for drinks and as a lunchtime bite but it was a hotel. Saying that the staff were very friendly and the food of sandwiches and chips were lovely. The view across Babbacombe bay was beautiful and there is a cliff railway down near the beach, unfortunately it was not working the day we went. The hand cream in the ladies was so lovely it made me want to stay and use the spa, if only I had the money 😁
The Cary Arms is a delightful hotel. It is small enough to offer really personal service and the staff that we encountered were unfailingly helpful and friendly. We stayed in one of the beach huts, which are stunningly located, hovering as they do immediately above the waves. There are many lovely touches like a bottle of wine in our fridge on arrival, a decent coffee machine and high quality toiletries. No chain hotel feel here - it all seems very personal and very stylish What really makes the place special is the location. It is situated right on a small cove and the sea can be both seen and heard from most parts of the site. As others have mentioned, getting to such a great spot does involve negotiating a very steep and narrow lane but the guys on site were really helpful in parking and retrieving the car when needed Food is really more of a good pub standard than anything else. It was all well prepared and presented, although we probably assumed that there might be a little more emphasis on fresh local seafood. For stays of longer than a couple of nights, you might want to try alternatives in the evening. Breakfast was excellent, with a great choice on offer The Cary Arms is not cheap but it does offer value for money and would be a great choice for a special occasion - it was our anniversary and we could not have made a better choice. And it was full during our visit, which must tell you something.…
