Dominating the seafront above Corbyn beach, this iconic hotel is an elegant landmark in Torquay. Sensitively decorated in a contemporary Victorian chic style, the ideals of comfort and relaxation are a priority here. A hotel for all seasons, The Grand is ideal for outdoor or indoor pleasure pursuits: long walks along the promenade; reading by the fire in the cosy library; taking in the panoramic views from the comfortable casual lounge & Brasserie or soaking up the warmth of Torquay’s healthy microclimate on the extensive sheltered terrace. Relaxation is a priority in the thoughtfully equipped individually styled bedrooms and opulent themed suites, many of which offer entrancing views of the sheltered bay. While year-round leisure facilities are on hand in the gym, heated swimming pools, Jacuzzi, sauna and treatment rooms for some essential extra spa pampering and make for a memorable stay.

I thoroughly enjoyed my recent stay at The Grand Torquay. Room 303 was super, and I'll definitely be requesting it for my next visit. Dining in the restaurant with local colleagues was delightful, and the attentive staff made the experience even better. The new Manager is exceptionally welcoming and engaging to chat with. Many thanks to The Grand for another wonderful stay, and I look forward to returning soon!

Stayed 2 nights at this hotel during our tour in Cornwall. Very well located, near the seaside just a few steps to get to the seashore. In the back is the train station, but even if one of my rooms was facing the station it wasn’t a lot of noise. Rooms are having a bit of old fashion aspect but clean. Hotel has still to work on windows painting and bathrooms. The public space of the hotel are very nice (hall, bar area, breakfast). Breakfast was good, but at first hour it takes some time to bring all they offer, so don’t rush. There was a weeding during Saturday night, but at least from my room (last on the hall and 3rd floor) it didn’t bother me. Nice staff.

Our stay at Grand Hotel Torquay began with an unexpected detour due to the closure of our originally booked hotel (Abbey Sands) which is the Grand Hotel sister Hotel. Despite the initial hiccup, the transition to Grand Hotel was smooth, thanks to the assistance of the accommodating reception staff. However, the experience within the confines of our room was a mixed bag. On the downside, the thin walls failed to insulate against noise from adjacent rooms, detracting from the overall tranquility. The bathroom was lacking a working shower head and was not cleaned from previous customers. Moreover, the lack of complimentary parking added an inconvenience to our stay, requiring guests to navigate finding their own parking in the underground garage which would have cost £10 for a day or free parking across the road in the train station with a pass given by reception. Additionally, the room itself felt rudimentary, lacking the cozy ambiance one might expect. Despite these drawbacks, the grandeur of the lobby area left a lasting impression, exuding a sense of elegance and sophistication. Moreover, the helpful demeanor of the receptionist in assisting us with parking alleviated some of the initial frustration. In conclusion, while Grand Hotel Torquay boasts impressive aesthetics and helpful staff, the experience within the rooms leaves room for improvement. Noise insulation, complimentary parking, and room amenities are areas that could elevate the overall guest experience. Nonetheless, for those seeking a grand ambiance and attentive service, Grand Hotel Torquay may still prove to be a worthy choice. This is based on first impressions, we are yet to try the food and other aspects that the hotel offer.

Unfortunately this has to be one of the worst hotels I have had the miss fortune to have stayed in when booking in at reception my wife and I did not receive any information about what amenities the hotel had to offer so we went to our room only to find a beer bottle top in the middle of the floor so the room had not been cleaned and was very dusty on asking to speak to the manager later on he just seemed not to care, the bar staff are rubbish they just stood around talking to each other they ignored us and other customers who just walked away from the bar on the last night I went into the toilet only to find our coffee mugs with spoons in them were left on the toilet tank

The grand used to be Grand and is still , in a crying out for a refurb kind of way ! Lovely and very young staff breath life into this place that seems a tolerant haven away from the busy town and its neon lights ! The pool is small and nicely done ! But the treatments in the spa via Nicole are on a level I have never experienced in UK ! So surprising !! Who knew !!! Tucked away in Devon , Pleasant enough rooms with a fantastic experience and a bit of a bargain !

There are lots of good things to say about this hotel - the great staff, the fabulous location on the sea front with spectacular views, we had a sea view double which was very big and immaculately clean, the food in the brasserie was really good and the service excellent. However, the hotel as a whole is very tired and needs a makeover - our view was spoiled by the rotten window, the bathroom although large and clean was very dated, the decor in the breakfast room was an assault on the eyes (luminous purple and green) and feels like a school canteen. This hotel has the ability to be the best in the bay but sadly misses the mark as it needs a lot on money spending on it.

A weekend away with my wife , her sister and brother-in-law turned into a Fawlty Towers experience although to be fair it wasnt all bad . We had a really nice dinner on the first night overlooking the bay in the Bistro served by the lovley Emma . Went to bed but awakened by the fire alarm at 12.30 , all out , down a dark fire escape , waited in the cold for 10 minutes then back again .No explanation. Good breakfast the following morning . The police were called in the afternoon and arrested someone running amock in the hotel . Booked in for dinner at 7.15 , in the not so nice restaurant with around 10 guests seated , first course served at 8.45 . Food again was very good . We did get a free bottle of wine and coffees for the inconvienence but when my wifes hot chocolate came the saucer was half full of the drink and complementary biscuit floating , the young lad apologised and brought a clean saucer , chocolate still down the cup sides . The lovley Emma saw this and immediately replaced . The manager did come over and said that because there was a wedding , the service was not how it should have been. The lift had broken down and one of the staff said that it was very old and parts have to be made as they are unavailable. On the plus side as said , food was good , staff mixed , room 2 ( not ours) very good but the first sea view room we were given , we couldnt see the sea as the double glazed unit had failed . The second room 314 was ok. If we decide to go again , it would be room 2 , not a weekend and not with a wedding arranged and hopfully Basil Fawlty kept well away !

Delicious cream tea with sea view. The scones were to die for, and enormous! The tea was plentiful and served in a proper pot. Jackie was our server and went out of her way to provide us with top class service. Thank you Jackie. We’ll be back for sure.

We booked The Grand Hotel to have a cream tea on Mothering Sunday as a treat for my mum. The hotel had pulled out all the stops, unfortunately they had fallen on the floor. When we arrived, they had no record of our booking. We were informed they weren't doing cream teas, even though it is what we had booked. They found us a table, by the live singer and where they were stacking crockery - very noisy! We ordered cakes and drinks. When they arrived, 3 of the 4 coffees were cold, and had to go back, and they had run out of the cake that one of us had ordered. It took 15 minutes to bring 2 of the replacement coffees. The one they had forgotten, only took another 2 minutes.
