This hotel had everything I wanted and was immaculately clean. Just a shame there wasn’t any parking. The attention to detail in the cleanliness was exceptional. Digital key was also very useful. Overall a great 1 night stay.
Look, I get it - staying in a B&B is usually great value, driven by the fierce competition, with friendly hard working hosts, and the breakfasts tend to be excellent. I’m not knocking them. But for me, I find them a little too intimate; I like a hotel! Trouble is, in Torquay (and surrounding area) you only had a choice of the shabby or the two ancient behemoths of the Grand or Imperial which are over-priced for their tired and peeling interiors and desperately need renovating. So imagine my happiness to have this mid-range, modern hotel open up right in the town centre! And it’s off to a good start. The staff was both friendly and helpful. The facilities are really good. Rooms simply but comfortably decorated, spotlessly clean, and with big, modern bathroom attached. No more 1950s plumbing providing watering can showers! I paid for a sea view which wasn’t cheap but you could get a cheaper inland facing room if on a budget. Great views from the 4th floor. And a fridge and great, huge TV. My one frustration was it has no fresh air, only air con. And the air con dial could occupy you for an evening while you try and guess what the icons mean and work out that there is a Russian doll icon within an icon system. The result was I was way too hot as the system kept reverting to off. They really need to get some instructions printed out and placed with the very basic customer info card - that could do with a little beefing up. If that could be sorted - as being stuck in a hot airless room is a proper issue - they will be very hard to beat.…
Welcoming and calm ambiance. Rooms very comfortable and hotel in a great location to explore Torquay. Breakfast was relaxed and everything you could need, shame the coffee was from a machine as a fresh cup always makes a good start to the day.
Hotel location great with bars, restaurants, cafe’s all in walking distance. Wasn’t aware of any building work going on but unfortunately large site adjacent to hotel covered in plastic sheeting - not good if room facing that- which ours was. We asked if we could upgrade to a sea view and we paid the charge. Receptionist on check in was amazing and so helpful. Worth the extra 90£ if you like a sea view- which we do. Room as expected- clean and modern and smelling fresh. Only downside for me was very soft pillows and dirty outside windows courtesy of the birds. Complementary breakfast was fine- something for everyone, could be cleaner around breakfast seating areas I noticed floors had food on them and we had come down at 7-30 am - early for us …. Lovely touch is the other lift that goes to street level- very handy and time saving. Shop right next door to hotel if you have forgotten anything. All staff very courteous and friendly apart from one member of Reception team on check out who I thought was quite rude and abrupt, and begrudgingly allowed my husband to use the ‘street lift ‘ to pop to the shop whilst we waited for our taxi- we didn’t ask her to book one for us as we didn’t want to ask her because of her attitude. Not good for front of house. Thankfully, that was our last impression not our first otherwise I’m sure it would have soured our stay from the start.…
I booked the Hampton Hotel for my Husbands surprise birthday. We were greeted by friendly staff upon arrival. When we arrived at our room they had put the extra special touch in and made swans out of towels and my husband had a card, balloons and a box of chocolate. I had asked about decorating the room prior to our arrival and Iga replied to day she put in the request. Which really was a lovely touch and made our stay even more special. Breakfast was good. A nice range of continental and cooked breakfast. We stayed in room 411 which has a great view of the harbour. After reading a review prior to our stay regarding the harbour view and them having a view of bins. I can safely say that this room gave a great view. Upon checkout the ladies at reception were equally as lovely and friendly as those who checked us in. Overall we had a great stay and we would definitely stay here again. Thank you to all who added the extra special touch. Keep up the hard work. Will definitely recommend this hotel. …
We stayed here after a problem with our booked hotel they had a boiler breakdown so no heating/hot water 🚿 We went to the tourist information after a bad night and Julie was extremely helpful arranging a viewing at the Hampton by Hilton where Jackie was very welcoming and helpful, we had an accessible room everything was well laid out and comfortable would highly recommend where you are treated as an individual and nothing is too much trouble!
This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. Firstly on arrival there was no visible check in desk. After wandering around for a few minutes with my bags with no one around offering any assistance I asked the man serving at the bar where was the reception desk, he waved me towards the end of the same bar where a very small table sign on the bar marks reception. No one was there, finally a woman appeared from a door behind and I asked if there was anyone on reception. She waved me back in the direction of the same man serving at the other end bar who had just waved me to that end of the bar, she then just walked off. Are your staff incapable of informative verbal communication? Eventually the bartender came over and asked if I wanted to check in, why the question when i had already asked him for check in! No words of welcome at all. I asked for a quiet room with a view. He said there were no standard rooms with a view and they are all quiet. I asked if I could get anything to eat in the room he said no. He did not offer any information as to anywhere else to eat in the hotel so I took the lift to my 1st floor room. I was tired and hungry so decided to sleep. The room was muggy and did not smell fresh. Sleep was impossible due to the noisy and erratic air-conditioning which alternated between blasts of stuffy hot air and chilling waves of cold no matter what temperature I set it to. I tried to switch it off completely but it would not shut down. By 2am I was getting chills and a headache and would have left if I could have got transport to my destination. In spite of asking for a quiet room there was noise late at night and door slamming in adjacent rooms. By 6am not having slept a wink I thought a nice hot shower would make me better, but there was no hot water at all, it was barely tepid even running the tap a long time. It eventually came on at around 9am. Should there not be hot water at all hours? I went down to have breakfast, waited for anyone to appear to ask if there were any options to bread. Finally a lady staff appeared and said crisp bread was not available. Went to get a coffee and waited while the coffee machine was being fixed, as I stood patiently the staff member turned around and brusquely waved me off towards saying there's another machine which was tucked around a corner, this was also out of order. Food options were standard continental aside from some baked beans and scrambled eggs mixed with parsley. I asked an inside of kitchen staff member for plain eggs and he made me scrambled eggs without the parsley, I would like to comment favorably about him, I think he was from another country and he was the only staff member who was pleasant and helpful. Perhaps he could help train reception and bar service members. It would have been nice if there was a herbal tea or decaf sachet in the room. There were just two teabags and two coffee sachets, very was disappointing when you do not want caffeine at night. The bathroom was not well cleaned, pieces of used clumped toilet tissue on the floor and hair and dirt in the shower and muck on the tap and dispensers. The box of tissues was empty under the two crumpled and torn sheets of tissue that had been placed on the top on the box, the tissues had obviously been handled, looked used and stuffed back. I attach photos. I was checked out by a very sullen staff member with no word of pleasantry, and left sleep deprived and quite unwell from the hot and cold air-conditioning all night not to mention the rock hard uncomfortable mattress which I see has been noted in reviews going back a year only for management to respond with "its takes time for our Hampton mattresses to soften up". Well I can assure you I will not be returning to subject myself to assist you in this quest.…
We stayed here 3 days midweek in February. The hotel looks modern, reception area was lovely. Parking was a pain but it always is in Torquay as it’s so hilly! The hotel is centrally located in walking distance to the harbour and town centre. The beach is probably a 15-20 minute walk. Loads of nice restaurants near by (AmicI across the road is amazing!) The room was nice, a little small with 3 of us and cases etc, The bed was tiny and so uncomfortable! The sofa bed my toddler was on felt better. I also found a couple of stains on the bedding and one of the towels which was disappointing but room was clean otherwise. Breakfast in the morning was lovely, great selection and lots of gluten free options too. Juice was fresh and everything was tasty!
My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights. It is very convenient for the seafront and several pubs and restaurants. There is no onsite parking but there is a decent car park just above. The room was very clean with a large comfortable bed and good ensuite. The buffet breakfast was plentiful and well presented.
Terrible view, paid extra for this view of the beer barrels and broken chairs and dirty roofs. Told we should have booked through Hilton not a third party. I’ll definitely use a different hotel next time I’m in Torquay. Breakfast isn’t great either.
