Hotel's Favourite
My wife and I have just returned from a 9 night stay at the Haytor hotel. We stayed in one one of the suites which was very Spacious and comfortable and furnished to a very high standard. This is our second visit, as we also stayed here for the first time last year. Even during the Covid-19 pandemic, John and Jane have all the safety measures firmly in place, and on arrival you are informed of all the precautions that are in place, therefore ensuring that you can relax and unwind enjoying your holiday, knowing that you are in safe hands at this hotel. They have plenty of lovely comfortable garden furniture to sit and enjoy a glass of wine within the beautiful gardens in which both enjoyed. You are allocated a time slot for breakfast in order to maintain social distancing. The breakfast is freshly cooked to order by Jane and is served by John, and it absolutely delicious and by far the best we had in any hotel. All the produce is sourced locally and is top notch. The hotel is only about a 5 to 10 minute walk to the numerous bars and restaurants at the marina. The owners, Jane and John really are the most genuine, lovely couple that you could meet, and nothing is too much trouble for them. The same can be said for the young ladies that work here from housekeeping to serving your coffee. We both will be Returning next year again so a big thanks to you all for a wonderful chill out Holiday.

We have stayed here pre pandemic days and thought it was a great place then, and I’m pleased to say we were not disappointed when we returned this weekend for a couple of nights. We booked last minute over the phone and whilst we were advised that they had a room available we would need to change to another room for the second night, which given this was a last minute thing was not a problem for us & tbh it gave us an opportunity to see some of the other rooms. In summary this place is great! Welcoming, John & Jane met us on arrival and immediately made us feel at home, lovely, friendly, genuine hosts.. The hotel is comfortable in every sense, from sitting in the garden to sleeping; the beds are so comfy and the pillows and bedding top quality, it’s super clean, the showers are powerful, the rooms we stayed in were modern and have everything you could possibly need, including hairdryer and extra heaters etc. Long mirrors too (bonus!). It’s got plenty of room for parking and free wi-if too and a bar! The breakfast we could not fault, everything was delicious, well presented and plentiful. Recommend the fruit salad and Greek yogurt (to start!), and the cooked options were super tasty. We had a nice surprise waiting on arrival, with a relative unbeknown to us calling the hotel and requesting a bottle of champagne in the room, they have said to us that nothing was too much trouble for Jane when they called with their request, and they thank Jane for making it happen!! 😊 …it was perfect! Definitely our favourite place to stay in Torquay and we’ll be returning, highly recommend to anyone wanting a place to stay close (5 mins walk) to the marina (there is a steep climb back to the hotel, but where isn’t there in Torquay!!)

Thank you Sarah and Andy for sending such a detailed review and taking the time out to send it. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and surprise gift. We know sometimes with availability the only way we can accommodate guests it to change rooms during there stay. As you said it does give guests the opportunity to see other rooms and view points. Thank you so much for your kind words. We do hope to see you again in the future. Kind regards John & Jane

The hotel is spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable. John and Jane can't do enough to meet everyone's needs. The breakfast is second to none with lots of choices and my coeliac husband had gluten-free options. We had (at our request) a ground floor room. It was a very generous size and had a kingsized bed, large flat screen TV, 2 reclining chairs and adequate storage space for clothing etc. The en-suite was a superb large wet room. The only drawback for us was that The Haytor is on a steep hill. We are in our 70s, in poor health and I use a walker. We surprised ourselves by managing the hill and becoming fitter every day. We are hoping to go to the Haytor again next year.
