I stayed at the Livermead House Hotel in June 2021 as part of a coach trip.
The welcome was really nice, the manager got on the coach and introduced himself and we all had temperature checks re: Covid before being handed the keys to our rooms.
The room itself was spotless and maid service is spot on, anything you need just ask and they will leave it for you.
The only thing I would say about the room is that it was slightly on the small side and the bathroom in particular will probably need modernising before too long, but as I say it was perfectly nice and clean, and everything worked.
The rest of the interior of the hotel was really nice and there's plenty of space around the dining and bar areas.
The food was absolutely fantastic, we had breakfast and evening meal included and there was plenty of choice - especially in the evening.
And every meal I had (four courses in the evening) was spot on, really tasty and fresh. They encourage you to pre-order your evening meal before you go out for the day so that they can be a bit quicker at bringing everything out.
The staff themselves are all very helpful and friendly, from reception to the bar and restaurant staff.
They even came out when we were leaving and waved the coach off!
The pool was closed due to Covid at the time of my visit however the garden area is lovely to sit in with a drink.
Finally I would say the hotel is in an excellent location, in Livermead which is about a 20 minute walk to what you would call central Torquay, but it's a very nice and easy walk and means it's not quite so noisy and hectic.
This hotel comes very much recommended for anyone going to Torquay!

I and my wife have been regular visitors since 2004. The hotel is not a modern plush hotel but caters for old fashioned service. We were the first guests following lockdown and were unsure how this would affect our stay. The safety measures in place were noticeable but in no way detracted from the service. The hotel initially was very warm but cooled the longer we were there as hotel became more ventilated. I was unaware at the time but my entire family (11 including myself) were there plus another unrelated couple. This surprise weekend was arranged long before lockdown and my wife breathed a sigh of relief when the go ahead was given for the 4th July opening. The meal was its usual superb self as was the service. Even the staff wearing masks and gloves did not impede the good service. I spent 3 nights there in a double sea view room which can be at times noisy due to traffic volume on the road. However the magnificent views across the bay more than compensate. I understand that windows are gradually being replaced over a period of time. Apparently the staff were in on my birthday surprise and I now discover that a lot of last minute changes were taking place and fully supported by staff. The results were my wife pulled of an excellent weekend for me. I would add that this hotel mainly appeals to those that like old fashioned service complete with man at piano playing background music for guests and may not appeal to people who like more modern settings. A party of 20 or more arrived before we left and social distancing was not an issue and had capacity for many more guests and still feel safe. Many thanks to Tim and the entire staff for making it an enjoyable and safe stay and will be back soon.

I feel sort of mean only giving this a 3 rating because I actually had a very pleasant stay, bit there is so much roo for improvement that I couldn't justify a 4.

The location has advantages and disadvantages, the views are great and it is around a 20 minute walk from the town (including a couple of hils), but there is a busy road at the front a a railway line at the back, which means that, combined with no air conditioning meaning windows need to be left open in summer that it is very noisy.

When you first arrive, it seems like the hotel is I need of a refurb, but after a closer look it seems to be recently decorated just in 1970's style.

The room was clean and comfortable, but small details needed to be better like very low water flow and a long wait for hot water which could be easily fixed by a hit water recirculation system.

I ate in the bar in the evening and the food was very good, but breakfast was disappointing in the morning with overcooked poached eggs which tasted of vinegar.

The one area where nothing can be faulted is the staff, everyone that I spoke to from reception, bar, restaurant and housekeeping were absolutely fantastic, polite, friendly and efficient.

Not a good start when we first arrived we had to wait 10 mins for our room key after hearing a customer disagreement about a payment she owed, then my parents both in their 70’s got stuck in the only lift ( the other one was already broken down ) staff cleaning rooms called the maintenance man but worried me as they staff seemed panicky themselves, thankfully it was only minutes until he used tools to open the door we never really had a apology about this and don’t know what would of happened if it wasn’t within his working hours.
Mum then struggled with her stick and the 2 flights of stairs for the next 3 days we stayed there as she was too scared to go back in the lift.
We had a lovely sea view from the bedrooms however the traffic was loud at night and the bed wasn’t very comfortable.
The breakfast was a good choice and nice food
The staff were kind and friendly but seemed very busy and short staffed especially in the bar/ lounge area I had to wait 10+ mins to be served and again when collecting bags from storage another 10+ mins as there was no one in reception.
It seems anyone can walk into the hotel and grounds and use the swimming pool as there are no staff around in that area which is very worrying really we were hoping to use the swimming pool but when we went down there were a lot of teenagers there throwing balls around so unsure if they were actually staying there as hadn’t seem them in the the hotel so we waited half hour but then changed our minds as it didn’t look like they were getting out some time soon.
Personally I wouldn’t stay there again

Myself and my wife Susan have recently returned home following a 5 night stay on a bed & breakfast basis at this hotel. The hotel itself is situated on the seafront , h on a very busy road , and is about a fifteen minute walk to the harbour , although there is a bus stop yards from the hotel making it easy to get into the town. We booked a room with a sea view and were not disappointed , especially as we could see 3 or 4 cruise ships out at sea . The room itself was adequate , although one of the windows was full of condensation somewhat restricting our view , as for the shower this was totally useless , small , very cramped , nowhere to rest any soap / shower gel and the force of the water was so poor having a shower became an ordeal . As for the hotel itself , whilst Susan thought it was nice , i felt it was in dire need of modernisation , with chandeliers everywhere , drapes in the bedroom and breakfast room making it in desperate need of brightening up. The breakfast itself was lovely and whilst we were sat at a table with a view out to sea , some tables were almost in the dark. One possible suggestion is to move the breakfast area from it,s present location to the big room where afternoon teas were held , this was bright & airy with a lovely view , just what you need to start the day . The staff were generally pleasant , although on checking out no one bothered to ask if we had enjoyed our stay , maybe they didn,t care !!!1
The hotel has nice grounds and an outdoor pool which regretfully we didn,t get the chance to try. Overall , in spite of the above we did enjoy our stay and would return to this hotel .

Really nice public areas. My single room was small but clean and perfectly adequate with a double bed. Good bar food. Young female european staff were particularly delightful. I had several excellent vegetarian breakfasts. Minor disappointments were the low shower pressure and poor wifi in the public areas, though it was fine in my room. One episode irritated me and stayed with me all weekend. Shortly after arrival I asked at reception for a pen. The man at reception grudgingly passed me one miserably commenting “Can you make sure you give it back, they’re like gold dust round here.” This raises two comments. Firstly, front line staff should not be so bloody miserable. Secondly, why do the management compromise the efficient running of a quite large hotel by the lack of availability of a 10p biro which many hotels leave free in the rooms? In summary I had a most enjoyable stay and the hotel is excellent value for money.

Booked 2 sea view rooms for special occasion based on photos and previous reviews. Car park was adequate for space at 2pm later would be a problem check in was ok make sure if you need coffee tea toiletries you ask as none in room Covid reason not sure why when you see the rooms.
One double sea view was fairly spacious 2 nd room like a box both from the 60s very tired net curtains tired bathroom linen etc not changed unless you stay 5 days.
Breakfast ok and service although many items run out by 9.15, drinks at Bar expensive.
Overall location nice on sea front currently like a Care Home internally could be so much better with a bit of thought and effort.

Have been coming to the Livermead house hotel over the years for different family events and have always loved the attention to detail from the staff. Some people say it’s dated but I’d disagree completely as it’s carries a level of class within its walls that is ingrained in everything. From Elliot’s gentle humour making you feel comfortable as soon as you walk in the front door, to breakfast served to you by the lovely dark haired waitress (who has been there for 10 years, didn’t catch her name apologies) will be back soon for sure!! 5 star again!

We had lunch on the lovely garden terrace this afternoon. We haven't eaten out much since the restrictions were lifted and wanted to find somewhere that we and elderly parents could feel safe. This was perfect, with table service. Easy parking on site, garden with tables well spaced out, staff wearing PPE and being careful. And, more to the point, varied menu inc veggie options, delicious food and views out over their pool area and the sea. Would definitely recommend.

This hotel is very dated but well kept. The old style adds to its charm though. I found the room to be very clean although ridiculously warm. Why I didn’t ask for a fan I don’t know!
Lovely location on the sea front, with lots of parking space , a nice 15min stroll into town along the front.

We were going to spend the afternoon on the beach but decided to chill by the lovely pool instead.

All staff very friendly & helpful! The manager, receptionists, porters, and waiters. Just great! 😊

Paid just over £120 for the room plus breakfast (which was quite small) & feel this was slightly over priced as there are other nice hotels for less. However, I would definitely stay here again as I had a comfortable stay.

We went in late autumn, so never tried the pool. You'd be better off getting a definite answer from the manager. I'm afraid my experience of the hotel facilities was not a good one - on a two night dancing break the dance-floor turned out to be only available for one night. Never did get any kind of apology.
