This is a lovely hotel which provided us with a really relaxing break in Torquay. Peter was the perfect host and made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The room was comfortable and the breakfast was great - with a menu that caters for everyone.

Enjoyed a 5 night break at the Somerville recently. This was our second visit and hopefully not the last. What can be said that hasn’t been already, such a relaxing break with excellent food and well looked after by all the staff. Many thanks to Peter for his collection and delivery service to the railway station, to Paul “two spoons” at breakfast, to Helen for the food and excellent cakes each day and Sam for keeping our room spotless. Also a really special mention for Coco. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

As soon as we pulled into the car park you were welcomed to The Somerville with its idyllic entrance of well presented gardens. Peter met us and welcomed us to his property. The rooms are airy and spacious with everything you need including fluffy dressing gowns. Breakfast was delighting a wonderful array of tempting treats to get you started for the day...waffles were amazing. Peter is informative on the area and gave us some helpful tips for our walk to Babbacombe. Was a real treat to stay at The Somerville and will be looking forward to return

From the minute we arrived to the moment we left we felt at home at The Somerville. Helen and Peter are great hosts and it is easy to see why this is the top ranked guesthouse in Torquay. Our room was fantastic, with great decor and a very comfortable big bed. The Somerville has lots of wonderful little touches that you just wouldn't find elsewhere, from the fantastic home baked complimentary cake to the jar of sweeties and small bottle of sun screen in the room. These things, in addition to the great service and wonderful breakfasts, make this a special place and having stayed at the Somerville we can't imagine staying anywhere else in Torquay. We only stayed 2 nights on this trip, but next time will be longer and we look forward to returning!

A very friendly atmosphere with the hosts Peter and Helen going out of their way to offer help and information. The room was beautiful and clean, it was also cleaned daily and the bed remade. Breakfasts - there was a great choice and the fried breakfast tasted great! Again nothing was too much trouble if you wanted to add extras to your choice. Peter made sure he spoke to everyone at breakfast time which encouraged the guests to start up conversations together too. All the staff were happy and made you feel very welcome. Every afternoon there was a fresh cake made by Helen which was gorgeous (especially the fruit cake!) All in all a fantastic weekend away , would we return?? Absolutely!!

The hosts Peter and Helen were 1st class! Made my wife and I feel so welcome and looked after our needs. My wife was heavily pregnant and we were celebrating our anniversary. We were made to feel comfortable and special. We highly recommend staying here if you want a beautiful stay. Thank you both so much.

Where to start? Helen and Peter are the most fantastic hosts. Anything you wish for, Peter is on to it, recommending places of interest, booking tables at fabulous restaurants and telling tales to keep you amused. He seems to have just the right level of "being there" and yet gives you plenty of privacy. Helen provides the most delicious breakfast - fresh, local ingredients, plentiful and lots of choice. She also bakes a daily cake, for you to enjoy with you cup of freshly ground coffee, in your room. The place is spotless and full of thoughtful little touches. My daughter and I had such a wonderful time, we will certainly be heading there again and we recommend you book it too. Enjoy!

Had a great stay in the Somerville, from the elegantly decorated rooms to the tasty breakfasts in the airy conservatory. I couldn’t fault it if I tried. A big shout out to the owners Peter and Helen for running the business smoothly and being so welcoming. Peter was super helpful with bits of useful info ( the stuff you actually need to know) about getting to the location and about what to do while there from activities, sight seeing and best places to eat. His arrival briefing with his handy map handouts. I felt he knows everything that needs knowing about Torquay and he was happy to share this, and for being new to the area it was very handy. It seems that he makes it his mission that you enjoy your stay in Torquay. Never saw much of Helen but I assume that was because she was always busy in the background make sure everything ran smoothly and making her delicious cakes that were left out for guests everyday complimentary of course!! There was an honest bar and a lovely decorated drawing room to relax in the evenings. Rooms were clean and luxurious with everything you need in them and more. The staff friendly and helpful always smiling and engaging. Can’t wait to enjoy a stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone else.

Me and my wife have stayed at the Somerville several times now and have to say the 5* boutique b&b is one of our favourite places to stay. We stayed there last year after our wedding and stayed there again this year for our anniversary we had a wonderful stay the choice of breakfasts are amazing the hosts Peter and Helen are great and very knowledgeable of the area. The little touches like Helen’s afternoon cake of the day are always a treat. What can I say we are back again in August for another stay and we can’t wait.
