We stayed for one night while walking the South Downs Way. We accepted that parking was in a street around the back. Inside all looked very olde worldly and yet well kept. Room looked good. However the weather was very warm and the tiny air con unit was hopeless. We could almost accept that but for the price £120 per...

A Brilliant position with pathway from the back garden area, leading directly to the Tye (Village Green), with Church & Bishop's House( National Trust). A really super Olde Worlde Pub with low ceilings, beams & the atmosphere to match + friendly Staff. Sadly, the food did not reach expectation or reputation. I think perhaps we were unlucky, or chose badly...

We have been staying in Alfriston this week and enjoyed dinner here twice. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. I chose the salmon on my first visit (not my favourite fish) but I have to say it was delicious. On my second visit I had the mushroom arancini which was equally good. Only criticism is there is no chicken on...

Stopped for a light lunch, received a very warm welcome. Good selection of real ales and though we initially thought the sandwiches were a bit pricey, we were not disappointed when they arrived, as they were substantial and well presented. The pub is popular with walkers and dogs are welcome. Nice atmosphere and could happily have stayed all afternoon.

We did book a table after looking on trip advisor for a nice place to eat. Note you must park in one of the car parks in the village and walk down to the pub. Lovely looking old pub. Inside it doesn't disappoint. Good menu with wide choice. Quite pricey but worth it. Portions reasonable and 3 courses easily manageable....

Stayed for one night. Great location for some amazing walks. All the staff were very friendly and professional. Room was as expected for a 14th Century inn - full of character and quirky. That said, the bed/mattress/pillows were top notch, new and very comfortable. The breakfast and evening meal was superb. Very dog friendly. Would recommend. No private parking but...

Two walking mates and I spent a few nights at the George Inn on Alfriston in February. The staff couldn't have been nicer. A very warm welcome, friendly and helpful. The food was very good too, particularly the breakfasts which were outstanding both in terms of quality and presentation. The bar and restaurant area was comfortable, rustic and cosy with...

Myself and my boyfriend live nearby and we come here often, the food is always amazing, it may be a little expensive but it's alway worth it. Lovely cosy pub with a open fire, friendly staff, dogs allowed. Such a good variety of food, I can't see you would be disappointed.

We went to the George for a recent Sunday lunch. We were shown to our reserved table, seated, and menus appeared. But it was the wrong table, so we had to get up again, move, and be reseated. I am 75, have just had a hip operation, and I do not like having to get up and be reseated. So not...

Stopped by for a beer and lunch on a cold and windy Sunday afternoon. Charming pub, you walk into a proper pub bar area, the rooms beyond look a bit more restauranty. Nice staff, cosy authentic atmosphere. Beer was very well kept, tried proper job and Hophead and both were on form. Good very nice- I had a roast with...
