Husband booked the junior suite for my 50th birthday. Beautifully decorated room with sea view and balcony however the bathroom was worse than we have had in a budget hotel very basic. The bed consisted of two matteress zipped together in which one resulted in one matteress being an inch an half higher and completely different matteress. The stool at the bottom of the bed was ripped and the plug socket that was used to plug the kettle in was very loose and wobbling about. Not the attention to detail I would expect from a 5 star hotel .On check out the staff never asked if we had a good stay and everything ok? Just wanted us out of the way as they had a queue of people.Wont be going back .

Excellent and stylish hotel with elegance, character and history. Had a single room which was to a high standard and larger than many double rooms I have encountered over the years. The place to stay when staying in Brighton. Although the Cyan restaurant closes at 6.30 on a Sunday there is a limited food offering provided in the lounge.

Good bits: good location, great views from the front rooms, good and reasonably priced valet parking (£40/day), nice bar space, lobby and super grand staircase, good quality food. Bad bits: simply not 5* service. No hot food available in bar at 10.10pm, which they said was for licensing reasons - if true that is not good enough in 5* hotel on Brighton seafront on a Saturday night. Reception had made a mistake taking credit card on check in, so I couldn’t charge drink in bar to my room. Fine but no apology or recognition that I had been put out. They said could get hot food in room. At 11.10 we were told this was not so (refused any hot food because ‘kitchen closed’, although several hot items were specifically marked as available 24 hours on menu). Again no apology for the discrepancy between menu and reality. They suggested I try Deliveroo or Just Eat. Took 40 mins for cold food to arrive, at which time room service (24 hr…) were not answering phone. Waiter had been sent to wrong room. He told me the menu had been wrong for months but it wasn’t being changed. I felt bad for him because it’s not his fault and he must come to work expecting disappointed customers. Breakfast buffet (good meat and pastries) was decent. But if you cannot get e.g. eggs Benedict or smoked salmon from the kitchen, and you are making your own tea with a bag in a mug and pressing a touchscreen to get a latte, it’s not a 5* hotel. Aggressive man rushing round the room asking if anyone had any feedback. The clear message was ‘has anyone got a problem?’ And nobody offered any feedback. Overall impression: someone at the Grand knows what they are doing, which makes the overall experience insulting. It isn’t incompetence but calculated. They charge 5* prices for the rooms but don’t offer the service that matches that (and which guests are willing to pay for). Providing good food, drink and decor, and cutting all other costs to bone is legit in principle and could be a great offer if that was what is promised, but it is not 5 star.

This is our umpteenth stay at the Grand. We love the architecture of the building and the grand staircase winding its way up. The sea view rooms are a treat, especially with a balcony, although can vary quite a lot in size and furnishings. It's nice to wake with a view of the sea from your bed, so best to avoid some of the rooms on the seventh floor which don't have floor to ceiling windows. We were a bit concerned that the new owenrship would dilute the offering but they remain to the same standard at the moment and I hope that this continues. Be prepared for expensive parking. The hotel has its own private and secure garage and they charge about £40 per night at the time of writing (increased from £35 on our last visit) but there is quite limited capacity. The NCP car park, which is directly behind the hotel, charged £32 per night at our last visit, probably more now. There are a few other car parks nearby but they are all quite expensive. The hotel is well placed for shopping and local attractions. If you leave the hotel and turn right, staying on the same side of the road, there is a mainly seafood restaurant on the corner of the next square on the right, with outdoor seating, which is very popular and for good reason,

Fabulous experience. The Grand is an excellent example of Victorian Splendour. Fron arrival to departure we received exceptional service from check in to departure Our room 628 was spotless. It didn’t have a sea view but was light and airy. I loved the old fashioned doorbell. Breakfast was served in a beautiful room which may have been the original ballroom. The breakfast was sumptuous a wow what a variety. Even though it was a buffet there was an omelette station managed by a lovely lady who knew how to cook an omelette. Awesome staircase and I was tempted to shimmy down the banisters which could have ended in catastrophe. Will I return. Yes I will …..❤️👍🏻

A truly fabulous historic hotel. Friendly staff, amazing junior suite sea facing room. A special mention to Izzy in the cocktail bar, who was friendly, helpful and had a great knowledge of the hotel. She is a great asset to the company. We stayed for a couple of nights at the beginning of March for my wife's birthday. The breakfast was top notch along with the restaurant staff and check in staff. Would not hesitate to book again. Thankyou The Grand.

I stayed overnight on sunday. It was my birthday Monday so was looking forward to a nice lie in, go down for breakfast then back to the room for a couple of hours to read at leisure. Unfortunately our room was right by the scaffolding for exterior works. Which we couldn't see on check in as the window was frosted over. At 8am we were disturbed by workmen right outside talking and drilling etc. That was our morning plan spoilt. I was also disappointed by the breakfast service. Usual excellent quality food but why on earth have the Grand gone over to self service coffee and tea?? You spend so much time walking back and forth to get everything something gets cold along the way. Really disappointing and has lost the Grand touch. We complained on checkout about the workmen and received an apology saying they shouldn't have started until 9, but our main complaint was not to have been forewarned. We weren't told on check in amd there was no note in the room. As usual all the staff are exceptional here but I'm not sure I'll stay here again.

Sadly this once gracious landmark seems to think that all patrons are dog lovers and actively encourages all creatures great and small to grace its lounge area. For me, I would not return unless they confirm they have a dog free area. I would like to enjoy my drinks or food without a pooch sniffing around

We have to say first off the staff are superb and make you feel special at The Grand. The room we had was a 5th floor Superior King room but although a large bedroom it was very bland and the bathroom had absolutely no heating, no AC or radiator. We had to put the AC heating on full in the bedroom and leave the bathroom door open to warm it up slightly. I believe it has new owners but they need to pay more attention to cleaning the lounge as the next morning things were still visible from the night before on the floor and chairs. Would we go back, no.

Stayed here recently - was really impressed with the hotel. Staff were great - concierge, reception and restaurant staff were polite and met my needs. My car was looked after in the secure carpark - very important for me. The only slight downsides were the view from my room and the extremely creaky floorboards, otherwise a great sty - thank you.
