some of the staff are delightful others have a brusque approach all good tho rooms wonderful and the breakfast superb. The snug bar could do with a refurbish but I would happily have a coffee or a glass of wine in there all in all great building and great place to stay

We really appreciate this review both in terms of your kind words and the feedback. On the refurbishment side, we have various programs before us with the car park being our current area of focus; the end game there will be a secure, walled space for our guests Hopefully we can see you again, from along the coast in Bournemouth,...

Ideally located hotel in the heart of lewes. A beautiful building with large clean rooms and attentive staff. Free parking and Wi-Fi. Excellent breakfast was available. If the restaurant is not open, there is an excellent pub nearby, the Pelham, which has an extensive menu.

The room I had (6) was pretty huge and very very comfortable. Parking is free. Good selection of teas/coffees toiletries etc. It seemed to be entirely staffed by folk of eastern european origin who didn't have the best command of English. Also note that you will need to check in advance if there is to be an evening restaurant and...

This hotel is refreshing traditional and elegant in style and in an excellent location on the high street for exploring this lovely Sussex town. We had a huge room ( no 7) with a very large tasteful fully equipped bathroom, there was a basic range of toiletries but bafflingly no hand soap! The wardrobe was so enormous It could've accommodated...

Room good, well decorated. Shower brilliant, liked the squeaky floorboards and the biscuits. Complimentary waters a nice touch. Breakfast v good, choice of kippers, haddock and trad English. Good pour of spouts, quality sausage. Amusing woman at reception kept asking us what room we were in. We recommend this place and will return.

Jacque [Reception] was tickled pink by your kind words and we are lucky to have such a talented team. We hope to see you again soon - meanwhile you have certainly made Chefs Harry and Lee smile given your super critique of the breakfast, which is one of the hotel's hallmarks Thank you so much for being a lovely guest

As the manager rightly wrote in connection to a previous comment, it is about the right quests in the right hotel. We were in room 18 this January and we had a very pleasant stay in this beautful house with loads of atmosphere. Yes there is a crack here and there, but I believe we had the cheapest room, tucked...

Nowhere in England is going to look it's best in January, and if this is the worst that Shelleys gets, then it's probably the best Lewes has to offer! Despite the usual drisley and cold weather, Shelleys offered a warm and pleasant haven. I only took advantage of the room, as I am not an early riser so missed out...

What a lovely review and thank you so much for visiting us from Berkshire As you say, Shelleys is steeped in history and while there are of course further improvements we would like to make, the team work hard and nothing makes them happier than reading reviews like this! Hopefully we can see you back before too long and meanwhile,...

Very hospitable and responsive staff. No fuss. Excellent restaurant. I felt totally relaxed here. Staff accommodated my early departures for work in the mornings by arriving early to prepare my breakfast. Waiter even provided me with washed fruit to take with me for lunch. and Evening meal was excellent. Thank you so much.

The marketing information says its a country house in town. It really is. It has the feel of a classic country house hotel yet is on the High Street in Lewes.
