OK, get the criticism out the way first, this is not the prettiest of buildings to find in the middle of a historic city. Although I think it has mellowed over the years and also it is well buried in other nicer buildings so not as much of an eyesore as, for example, the Police headquarters. But as for the...

I stayed in another 4 star hotel in the city last week and that was excellent. Thought would try this one. Rooms are very dated and carpet thread bare. Bed is very comfortable and clean but air in the pipes awoke me at 5am and the noise continued till 7am. There was no complimentary water in room. The housekeeping is...

First impressions were wow this is nice, fantastic location staff very polite and smartly turned out. The room was lovely, but the devil in the detail left it wanting, cracked bath panel and floor tile. Opened bedside drawer and the front fell off. Just small points but noticeable. Breakfast at £10 per person was not too expensive but again just...

The hotel is very quiet and we'll appointed with period furnishings. Very easy walking access to pubs, shops, and the Winchester cathedral. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Would stay here again.

Have stayed at this hotel many times and have always rated it high.this time the hotel let itself down As the service and quality of food for breakfast was appalling. The restaurant was quiet but the bacon was dripping in fat the scrambled eggs were like rubber and after a ten minute wait the fried eggs came overdone and also...

Great location, fab breakfast and some Of The friendliest staff I've ever encountered... That said the hotel felt tired, a little past it and the toilets downstairs from reception were the worst smelling I've ever been in... And I've been in some rough places. With a little bit of TLC, this hotel with it's location could be the best around.

They say its the little things that matter. And that’s never more true than when staying in an hotel. It’s what distinguishes the memorable from the average. And it’s usually down to people not buildings, not decor, not carpets, not fancy lighting. We visit Winchester often to make welfare visits to an elderly and infirm relative in a one-bad flat....

Less than impressed. Lovely view of the cathedral was a positive but the hotel is very drab and in need of refurbishment. The parking situation is unacceptable. We were a large group travelling with 2 disabled guests. The hotel reception staff did little more than shrug their shoulders at our predicament of there being no space in the car park....

Apart from the outstanding view of the cathedral, the breakfast and the lovely front desk staff I can't really make any positive comments. Shockingly uncomfortable pillows, grubby room, noisy wedding just below us. Why didn't they allocate us a room on the top floor and this room to a wedding guest?
