Excellent meal, we had the chateaubriand deal for two, with wine. Superb evening, our waitress "Courtney" was very knowledgeable with regards to menu and choices and was friendly and very attentive. Will certainly go again.

When we lived in Winchester we enjoyed eating at Hotel du Vin, it was well run, comfortable, nice atmosphere and the food was excellent but friends told us of bad experiences, the place had changed ownership service was poor and food bad. So we went to the Old Chesil Rectory instead which is superb, faultless.

If I was staying here I'd be on edge all the time because the staff wind you up so much you wonder if you've got a parking ticket! We went for a meal with friends where we were hectored by the waitress so much it felt as if we'd left a bunch of two year olds in the lift. Her...

From start to finish, everything was perfect. Service, staff friendliness, food and ambience were faultless! We had the chateaubriand and it was cooked exactly as we'd requested. I'm rarely impressed with restaurants in the UK- it seems that usually unless you're prepared to pay a weeks salary and eat in London, disappointment looms......certainly not in this case!

We had booked this hotel before we read the reviews and then wondered if we were going to be disappointed. However, we had a great stay. Apparently the managers have all changed in recent months. The staff were excellent - on reception, in the dining room and bar area. They couldn't have been more pleasant. The rooms were spacious, with...

Having read some of the recent reviews I was a little worried. However we were very well looked after by the very pleasant bistro team of 3 ladies, plus the maitre d' next door. My 3 family rated their meals highly and I ate Onglet which was a little chewy but otherwise good. The food could perhaps have been a...

The hotel is in a great location within walking distance to just about everything you want to see in Winchester. The staff is wonderfully attentive, friendly, and simply a delight - especially Roula at the front desk and Liam in the restaurant (which was quite, quite good, by the way - I recommend it). Our room was clean and comfortable,...

We stayed for two nights at new year's eve. Had an excellent, relaxing stay and were looked after superbly by the very friendly and professional staff. As well as great service, the room was spacious and comfortable and the breakfast (cooked and normal) was delicious.

Our suite was reasonably priced, it looked lovely and the shower was great. On the downside, several mattress springs had gone (sagging and squeaking), we could hear music through the floor at night and in the morning and other guests' conversations through the air conditioning vents. The loo smelt of drains. Chateaubriand was cold, fries over-cooked. Room service breakfast was...

We stayed the night at this hotel to visit Winchester Christmas market. Arriving early we went to the (small) bar and had a coffee. Staff were pleasant and seemed plentiful. There is a car park at the rear of the hotel but beware, it sometimes isn't big enough for all hotel users especially when there are functions in the hotel....
