The first drawback of staying here is needing to park a few streets away. The hotel can't do anything about that, but something to bear in mind with heavy bags. I don't know if we were just unlucky with timing, but we paid over £100 for a room overlooked from all angles. The guy who showed us our room was... More

A lovely old hotel with plenty of charm. The staff were helpful and the rooms had all mod cons. We chose a room with a shared bathroom but actually had it all to ourselves which was great. Large breakfast of cereal, croissants and toast - well worth the money.

I've stayed at this lovely hotel in the heart of Canterbury for the past 3 working weeks and it has been a delightful experience. We had a shared bathroom to begin with but this was not a problem as I never had to wait and the bathrooms have all been done to a high standard. The hotel has great views... More

This ancient building has been tactfully updated to offer modern facilities where they're appreciated, with no loss of character. Tasteful modern furniture in traditional styles, and smart new bathrooms, complement exposed beams and sloping floors. There are, of course, the conveniences which modern travelers take for granted (TV, wi-fi, hairdryer, kettle, fluffy towels, redundant pillows, upmarket toiletries and comestibles); the... More

Right next to the cathedral (obviously from its name) so convenient for all the attractions and restaurants. As it is so old it is very quirky; sloping floors, beams, narrow and plentiful stairs, in other words lots of character. Our spacious room had an ensuite with an excellent shower and views over roof tops and a comfortable bed. The staff... More

Stopped here for one night on business.Found clean and comfortable with friendly helpful staff.Rooms were functional nice headboard and furniture but room not spectacular ,nice amenities and toiletries though ,bathroom was fair size but more like a home bathroom than hotel .Solid but unspectacular. Continental breakfast was fine. Unusual layout spread over roofs of neighbouring buildings so quirky is the... More

Great location with rooms overlooking the cathedral. The hotel is in a very old building and the rooms are up a flight of stairs from the entrance. Of course the rooms aren't the most modern but they are clean and bright, and what you would expect for the price, which is very good. Friendly, helpful staff.

Charming and quaint olde worlde feel with all mod cons. Spotlessly clean, very comfortable and great service. Great location right next to the Cathedral and 5 minute walk to the theatre where we were seeing a show. Would definitely recommend this hotel!

The Cathedral Gate is a very old building right next door to the Canterbury Cathedral. It is rustic and charming, in the middle of everything, and a good value for the money. My room was spotless as was the bathroom down the hall. I had the continental breakfast each day (served to me), everything was fresh and you could have... More

The welcome by the receptionist was efficient & friendly. The double room we had was the Twilight room, Furnished with a comfortable quality bed & side table, tea making facilities, flat screen TV. A large new looking shower + branded shower gels. The hotel must have had a recent major refurbishment the place looked fresh. As we prefer a continental... More
