This is a lovely place and a review of the hikers bar ONLY. Crammed with atmosphere and just how it used to be in the '60s'. If you want plush, this isn't it but if you want somewhere rugged where you can walk in off the hills and demand sustenance, this is it and nowhere better! We visited twice and... More

This is a review of the Hikers Bar only. My wife and I dropped by one afternoon recently and found the pub to be a bit of a dump (basic and dirty). The mens toilet was similar to a public toilet. We were hungry after a hike, but ended up having crisps and peanuts rather than chancing the food. The... More

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights In September. We really loved this place because of it offers such a comfortable environment- by that I mean it literally has an extremely comfortable living room/lounge area with real fireplace and comfy couches- and the staff is warm and welcoming. We had dinner here both nights in the lounge and... More

It never tires. It's the same year after year, offering the ultimate reward for a day on the trails. Great beer. Great service. Knowledgable staff interested in what you've done and where you've been. It's great that you can just walk in absolutely drenched to the skin and order a pint and no one blinks. The perfect pub!

I last stayed here 20 years ago and it was first rate: things have changed. The whole place looks tired; my room could have been cleaner; and the breakfast was basic. This hotel is in a fantastic spot and could be so much better. On the plus side the staff were extremely friendly and helpful; the bed was very comfortable;... More

After reading mixed reviews, we were unsure about our forthcoming stay at odg, but we loved it! Yes, it's not posh or fancy and the smell of fried food greeted us as we were shown to our room. But, the rooms are so cosy and comfortable and the location is simply superb! All of the staff are extremely friendly and... More

This is a little lovley old pub at the head of the Langdale Valley, and ideal place for a pint, for any walkers or climbers passing by. It is always busy, it is also a good place to stay. They also serve a variety of food and lovley homemade flapjack and slices.

I'm perhaps biased as I have spend many nights in the ODG and the beer and craic is brilliant. If you like real beer and real pubs the Old is a classic. With its open fire, this former cattle byre is perhaps the ultimate in 'outdoor' pubs and its not unusual for the landlord to get his fiddle out and... More

We have just come back from a two night stay. The hotel was ideal for us as we were walking the Langdale's. The staff are very friendly and the rooms were spotless if a little small. The breakfast was excellent so cannot understand the other comments. We had our evening meals in the hotel and these were fine. This is... More
