Pros. Great breakfast. Cons. Room was very tired, stayed on top floor. It did look like they were slowly renovating the hotel and bistro/bar was good. However our room was trapped in the 1960s. Smelt stale and dusty, terrible decor. Wifi non existent in room, patchy at best down in the bar. Location was good.

Trad family run hotel with wine bar restaurant attached. Room was comfortable if a little tired. Staff are all excellent and really tried hard to be helpful. Would return. Why does idiotic trupadviser make you write extra words when youve finished?

I stayed in a single room which has not been refurbished for some while. It was shabby but clean enough. A boxed in down pipe runs through the room, and that, the squeaky floor boards from the room above, the thin walls and the slamming fire door outside the room meant I felt I knew my fellow guests rather better...

Stayed here overnight to do the via ferreta course at honnister slate mine. The staff were all very pleasant and the evening meal in the restaurant was excellent. We didn't have much time for breakfast as we had to leave before 8am on the Sunday(hot breakfast being served 8-10) but they very kindly allowed us cereal, toast, muffins, fruit etc...

We were part of a party of three rooms visiting for a wedding for a weekend. We got a room at the back of the hotel, it had been recently decorated. The grey was very nice, but possibly a little dark with just a small window. The room is nicely appointed, although it is a bit wonky with sloping floors...

We only went to the Allerdale Court Hotel because the Trout Hotel was closed due to flood damage but found it clean and comfortable. Like any other old building it has its charms, and its faults, but served our purpose very well. My only complaint was that the restaurant staff were rather inattentive, and several times had to be reminded...

Loved staying here. Brilliant location . The room was lovely. Food great and the staff couldn't have been nicer. We brought our puppy Boo with us and he loved it too, we could even eat and drink with him along with us in the snug. Will definitely come back and thank you so much to the kind and welcoming staff....

Stayed a lot at the Allerdale Court earlier in the year, was well looked after and would happily return. Kay and her team are excellent hosts and lovely people and the bigger rooms are all interesting and comfortable with everything you might need. I was not so taken with the smaller rooms and with the price differential relatively low I...
