Went for lunch for the first time since the floods. Lovely refurbishment, and friendly staff. I had the turkey dinner which was a good plate full. The roll of bacon and chipolatas were hardly cooked and the mashed potatoes were stone cold. It didn't help having cold plates. My friend had the trout which she enjoyed although she did say... The hotel has been restored following the floods and what a fantastic job. Very comfortable stay here. We stayed in room 108 which is a river view room. It was huge. Shame our stay was so short having had to check in quite late due to travel time but will definitely be back. Couldn't get booked into the restaurant for... More

As part of a business trip two of us were booked in - and we had no idea what to expect. It was about 25 mins from the Westlake's business park but well worth the distance. The Trout looked like a brand new hotel (learnt later about the terrible flooding), and everything from check in and out to the service... More

At the age of 61and divorced I did not think I would find love again, but over the last eight months I have had a wild time. We have been to may places and stayed in may hotels during this time. The latest The trout in Cockermouth. We decided to celebrate our birthdays (on consecutive days!) with a week in... More

We only use the Trout for bar meals and the odd lunch. The menus are varied with plenty of choice. The food is always cooked from fresh and it shows. The staff are always friendly and attentive and we have never been disappointed in numerous visits

Had a family Sunday lunch in the Derwent Restaurant as a celebration for my 50th birthday. We were a party of 10 but the service was excellent, unobtrusive and very efficient - we were all served together and nobody had to wait as often is the case when dinning as a group. The staff were a mix of experienced and... More

This was the third time staying at this hotel and we were disappointed with the room.even after the recent refurbishment we didn't feel we had value for money from the superior executive room. The bar, lounge and dining staff are great, the reception staff on checking out seemed really defensive when hearing our honest comments and didn't want to hear them.... More

I really enjoyed my lunch! The food was good and nicely presented, and the service was excellent! It was a busy Saturday, and we hadn't booked, but it was great! I would recommend to anyone! First Class!

We booked last minute and stayed for just one night. I was really pleasantly surprised with the hotel as the further north and west you go in Cumbria it can get a little dated. This hotel has got it spot on; the service, the decor and the ambiance. This is a little bit of luxury in a nice town. Check... More
