Our main course was very nice but then we asked for desert and were served microwaved crumble that took 15 minutes to cool down to an edible temperature The barman asked us if all was okay - we said no - the crumble is far too hot to eat - he said put more custard on it - an unsatisfactory... Thank you for taking the time to write a review, we are pleased that you found your main course "very nice" we are dissopointed that the crumble was not up too your standard, however we DO NOT microwave our homemade puddings they are warmed in the oven, we would hate to send out a cold pudding so make sure our... Came to coniston for our first anniversary. Been here a week and have ate in all the pubs. Love this pub, great selection of ales which suits my Hubbie. However asked for a gin which I had never heard of, king soho! Was met with some sarcasm when my husband asked where it was from...where do you think replied the... More

Happy anniversary too you both, thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are sorry that you felt our bar man "got your back up" this was not his intention at all, we normally get fantastic reports on our fish and chips but value your opinion of them being average and will look at ways to improve... The table was in a beautifully decorated room and the food was well cooked and served quickly and efficiently. It all contributed to a memorable family celebration. The sin meals were each delicious - generous portions so can't comment on desserts!

We waited ages at the bar before someone came and, to cut a long story short, both the food and service were decidedly average. There are probably better places in the village so don't bother walking up the hill.

We are sorry you found us "decidedly average" however we feel it is unfair to say "don't bother walking up the hill" many Customers regularly walk up the hill and have commented on how fantastic the food and service was, one again I am sorry we were not up too the standards that you required, all I can suggest is... A cosy, friendly bar, very welcoming on a wet miserable day, excellent choice of beers, open fire, low beams and slate walls. Ideal watering hole after a trip up Coniston Old Man, I suppose as we couldn't be bothered as it was lashing down

My husband & I ate an early dinner here after a long way of walking and sightseeing. We sat on the patio area around the chickens which was great fun. The views were amazing also. We order the steak pie and Fish & Chips each, both of which were the best meal of our entire stay in the Lake District.... More

Do not stay here. The staff are very unfriendly and rude. The choice of menu is a joke and they didn't have what we asked for. The rooms are dirty, hairs in the bathroom and the bed. They appeared to be short staffed as waiting to get served was ridiculous. The owner was drunk and had no interest in our... More

I am always weary when i have to order a meal and pay up front as you are always on the back foot. Today was a prime example of that. I went to The Sun in Coniston with my family and ordered a meal for us all at the bar. My wife and I ordered the rack of ribs with... More

We don't use BBQ lighting fluid - we have a mains-gas char-grill. But we do use a lot of marinades. They keep the meat around the ribs soft - or slimy as you put More

Didn't eat so can't comment on food but The Sun is attractive and sits at the bottom of the Old Man so has great views. The large conservatory looked nice but we sat outside on a lovely warm evening and enjoyed a couple of drinks.
