My mum & I booked in to give my mum modern experience of YHAs (her last was around 50 years ago!) We were welcomed by staff & fellow guests alike. The hostel was warm, comfortable with good facilities.

Spent 2 nights here in family room for 4 (children 6&7). Hostel is not the most up to date we've stayed in and room was quite small and dark. However the hostel itself is in a great location for exploring the Lakes and the lovely village of Grasmere a 2 minute stroll away. We decided to eat in restaurant as...

Lovely looking building, nice staff, showers and good self catering kitchen. Conveniently located to pop into Grasmere for supplies if needs be and had good road links to the rest of the Lakes. Hope to be back up soon.

I have stayed a number of times now at YHA Butharlyp Howe, Grasmere, over several years, and am always impressed by the unfailingly helpful and friendly staff. Youth hostels these days are much more like hotels than they were decades ago, and cooked breakfasts and evening meals are available at Butharlyp Howe, at reasonable prices, or you can opt for...

We visited this beautiful old Youth Hostel in the second week of January but don't let a lack of summer put you off an outdoors holiday in the UK! Grasmere Youth Hostel is, as you can see from the photos, in the main a beautiful old building! But this is part of it's charm. An absolute haven for families as...

Clean well run hostel with plenty of space - family play lounge, tv lounge, main lounge, games room in cellar and laundry facilities, wifi on ground floor. The downside for me was the self catering facilities. These involved going outside, up the lane to another building and down 21 steep steps. No problem on a summer evening but not so...

A great location, situated in nice grounds and only a couple of minutes' walk from Grasmere centre, which is an interesting place to visit and has plenty of good quality cafes and restaurants. Also a very handy base for walking and exploring - we visited Easedale tarn on arrival and climbed Fairfield the next day - fantastic mountain views. The...

Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and enjoyed Easedale and Fairfield Horseshoe (some of my favourites too). We hope to see you again soon.

As it was nearly 40 years since I last stayed in a Youth Hostel, I wasn't sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised with the clean comfortable beds, plentiful showers & toilets & large comfortable lounges. The reception staff were all friendly & helpful, & the breakfasts were fine (not amazing, but definitely adequate for the price). 2 minor...

Thank you for your review. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the progress we have made since the last time you stayed and that you enjoyed your stay. As for your feedback, we will look into the room plug sockets, as it was something we were unaware of. And the parking can be an issue, and is something...

I've stayed here on a number of occasions and on this visit, as always, found the staff friendly, the rooms and communal areas clean and tidy and the location ideal. However, the breakfast was decidedly on the stingy side, you'd get twice as much for the same price in a lot of pubs and B and Bs. Two person room...

Had a fantastic weekend. The facilities are great. Friendly staff. Lovely location and ridiculously comfy beds! Anywhere in the lakes will be beautiful but there aren't so many budget options. This makes YHA perfect. Bring towels and toiletries as it's basic provisions. Bedding is provided and you can buy anything you forget. Parking can be a bit of a mission...
