We visit here regularly, old fashioned attention to detail regarding furnishing. All the staff are rapid in response to service . Food is good and hot, a quiet relaxed atmosphere even when it's busy. A very good place to digest your meal and feel the benefit of good old fashioned hospitality. There are few places left that I could recommend...

On the wrong foot for a start when there was no record of our restaurant booking. The starter for my husband clearly needed a roll - none was offered and on lack of staff he helped himself somewhat uncomfortably. The obviously very inexperienced waitress could not use a waiters friend corkscrew , then served our red wine in an ice...

We have been customers of the George for many years and fondly remember the good old days before it was taken over by the current Lakes Hotel chain. Over the past 7 years a great deal of effort has gone into updating the furnishings and decor and the hotel looks super. However, whenever it is busy the management of the...

My partner and I stayed here the Monday after Christmas after I'd been to visit for a craft fair in November and was impressed by the amazing Christmas decorations. The festive decorated lounge area was lovely and relaxing. The room was adequate, a very good size with a large en suite and large, comfy bed. It's a very old hotel...

Met up with my two friends for coffee and food: I had a toasty (pineapple & ham) followed by hot mince pie & cream. Absolutely delicious! I love the relaxed atmosphere of the George along with its classical, 'ye olde worlde' décor, clean carpets and freshly wiped tables. We're so lucky to have such a 'classy' place to go for...

The food and service especially breakfast was disgusting, the vegetarian breakfast was served with a veggie sausage, rasher of bacon and slice of black pudding!!! The chef had substituted the hash browns for two roast potatoes which was accompanied by a rogue pea and fennel garnish ...clearly been scraped from someone's dinner the night before. The dried fruit had no...

We went down at the George twice: first time for a family meal night time- service absolutely shocking- no manners, very slow. Went down today and my burger was not even cooked properly, after 1 hour of waiting. Awful they won't see me again. Is really sad because one upon a time was really good. Stay clear !!
