Stayed one night on a deserted campsite with good facilities. Facilities included a clean well equipped kitchen so I need not have made my evening meal on the campsite. Not sure how busy it would be if the site was filled. Very? Perhaps. Had breakfast in the main building and picked up a packed lunch so I could start walking...

Book the YHA for a cheap family getaway and to attend the Ambleside Christmas Event. We arrived in darkness and checked in with the helpful chap behind the bar, my first impressions were as expected of a youth hostel, the entrance leads into a large lounge area with lots of sofas for chilling out, the bar/restaurant are is large and...

Overall a good place to stay, clean, comfortable and friendly staff. My only issue is that the shower closest to my room was out of order and no one fixed it over 5 days during my stay and one of the staff didn't want to give me porridge for my breakfast even though I had been told I could have...

Stayed here Sept 2016. Very cheap affordable though a little small bunks. Small menu but good and as much breaky as you need to start your day. TV to keep up with the news...loads of comfy sofas or table/chairs, and wooden benches out the back with lovely views across the fields to Windermere. You cannot go wrong at the price.

First time I stayed in a hostel. Adequate place just for sleeping as there is not a lot of space for anything else. Heater is only put on for a a short period of time . 3 rooms sharing 2 toilets and 2 shower but unfortunately 1 toilet is blocked. Each room can accommodate 4 people. We need to book...

We stayed in a tipi for 3 days. My daughter loved it, it was great fun, BUT im glad we weren't there any longer. On arrival the tipi was clean, bedding was provided, but by day three in the rainy lakes it was not so clean with bits of grass and bugs finding there way in. There was only two...

Beautiful spot with views of the lake. Facilities very typical for YHA. Odd building which is clearly having some issues ,a leak in the staircase area left a very unpleasant smell . Could not work out why most of the wc on the first floor not available for use . Bunks not comfy but perfectly acceptable. Tired ,so early night...

Me and my brother (11 and 8),went to the YHA with our parents, we were astonished with the amazing views and scenery. When we went into the room, we saw how basic it was;however, the facilities were great. In the evening it was very relaxed and casual, we felt very comfortable and at home.In the morning we had breakfast, it was...

The 'campsite' is more of an unmaintained meadow. Hard to find flat land and the grass was up to my waist, when wet it completely filled my 5 year olds wellies with water and ruined them. So many midges we were eaten alive. The facilities were good but lots of spiders. The fact that you can't get the car near...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Lake District is a truly beautiful part of the world but like many amazing places, it can get busy. If you want to get the best of the area without jostling with the crowds, head to Broad Oaks Country House Hotel. However, if they are full, then may as well stay here at this YHA. Only 2 miles from Windermere town centre and offering panoramic views, this spectacularly situated hostel is a real gem. There's a lovely pace of life here - great if you want to unwind. We recommend you take a walk through the large wooded grounds and look out for the wonderful inhabitant wildlife. At the end of the day simply relax and enjoy gorgeous sunsets with a drink on the terrace. You may love the mix of old and older as this diminishing hostel offers some of modern facilities to possibly ensure a reasonably comfortable and 'okay' stay. ... more   less
