We have been staying at this really excellent hotel for over ten years now and have seen it develop from a more convivial family run small hotel that provided very friendly service to one that provides a sterile and false ambiance present in most larger chain hotels.Something of the personal has been lost by its expansion over the years. We...

Very enjoyable stay; traditional hotel. Some very good staff keen to help, however slightly understaffed front of house with services such as handling luggage i.e. load your own! Food superb. Location fantastic. Perfect for older generation.

Had three nights at Gilpin Hotel. Glorious residence, wonderful food, and non intrusive staff with a great attention to detail. Beds were comfortable, Jacuzzi on our deck, lovely linen on the beds, beautiful bath products, and our breakfasts and dinners were delicious. Slight drawback being out of Windemere, but made for good day time walks.

It was a really wonderful experience. It's both beautiful in sunny and rainy days and I am lucky to see all the sun and rain in two days. I especially like the Japanese bath where I saw the sunset. I originally wanted to stay in it for 10 minutes just for experiencing, but I stayed much longer as it is...

My husband and I have just had the most wonderful and relaxing couple of nights at The Gilpin Hotel. If you get a chance to stay in a garden suite - snap it up! We were in Catbells and it was gorgeous with our own private hot tub and deck. Totally blissful!!! We cannot rate highly enough the level of...

I really don’t know where to start about our experience at the Gilpin. From the moment we were met on our arrival until leaving, the service was outstanding. The customer service from the staff team was unlike any that we had experienced anywhere else. The food was excellent. We had a package booked that included meals and a spa treatment...

Our third visit to this Gilpin and they never disappoint. From check in to check out the service and professionalism of the staff is unique. The decor is simply perfection regardless of which room you sleep, eat or choose to rest in. Food is hard to beat and the wine selection is equal to any michelin star establishment. The best...

Just back from a fantastic anniversary weekend at the gilpin. The room was lovely although I had wished there had been a better view of the lake. Very cosy and home like. My only gripe with the room was that it was so hot, perfect for cold winters but not when the weather is a little warmer. Dinner was over...

We have stayed at the Hotel on previous occasions but this time we spent two nights there and five at Lake House - it is hard to put into words what an exceptional place it is!! This hotel is situated in a beautiful location, and first impressions were of a very attractive building. Its meet and greet service inside was perfect and exceeded other local hotels . This hotel appeared to be extremely well maintained with clean decorations, furniture, and floor coverings. We particularly noticed the up to date electrical and fire systems which contrasted favourably with...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
At the heart of Gilpin is a very passionate family and team, dedicated to creating lasting memories for their guests, who return time and again for celebrations and escapes. Warmth and friendliness are balanced with extraordinary service, exquisite décor and stunning culinary experiences. This five star hotel comprises two separate estates in the beautiful Lake District, with a luxury country house on each. At Gilpin Hotel all of the 25 bedrooms have lovely Lakeland views, most leading directly onto the gardens - including six Garden Suites with their own cedarwood hot tubs, and five fabulous detached Spa Lodges. The Spa Lodges were added in 2016, and are cedar-clad with king size beds, gorgeous bathrooms and a fabulously private en-suite spa each, with a convertible treatment area, steam room, rain maker shower, free standing oval stone bath, outdoor sauna and hydrotherapy hot tub surrounded by a walled garden. Add this to the mood lighting, fires, electric blinds and a state-of-the-art music system, and all of the senses are invigorated. Just a mile away at Gilpin Lake House, six gorgeous rooms share a fully staffed boutique hotel with a heated indoor swimming pool (for Lake House guests only), outdoor hot tubs and saunas, and exclusive access to 100 acres of grounds with a stunningly beautiful private lake. Our chauffeurs bring you to the hotel in the evening to dine. Dine in either the Michelin starred main restaurant, 'Hrishi', where Hrishikesh Desai combines great Lake District produce and classic methods to deliver unbelievable textures and flavours with just a twist of Asia, or in 'Gilpin Spice' a new informal restaurant transcending international boundaries, with an open kitchen focussing on dishes from the spice trail spanning the Indian sub-continent, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan and China. ... more   less
