Sorry, only just seen this question and I think it may be too late for your visit, but may be useful to others. Windermere is now a decent night out thanks to several new café cars opening. I'd recommend the Crafty Baa in Windermere, Café Italia, The Pig, Cantina (Italian), Lighthouse (Mediterranean), also the Lamplighter now has a nice bar area, also Fodder, good choice of draft beers. In bowness Bodegas is great for Tapas upstairs with a lively bar downstairs, Villa Positana is a lovely rustic Italian, Flying Pig, Arts Bar, Baha are all new bars with fod down there. Overall, I think the restaurants in the area are all of a good standard, and overall I don't rate the pub food, but The Hole in T'Wall is a worthy exception.

The train station is approximately half a mile away from the Willowsmere guest house. There are various paths leading to the lake, though for me as a disabled person, I travelled the one and a half miles to Bowness to access the lake. Windermere town centre is no more than half a mile away. If you want to get to the other side of the lake, there is a ferry at Bowness that carries cars and foot passengers and only takes a few minutes to cross.
